Game in a level.

Most levels are linear, have 1 boss and are made so it takes one play to complete... I have a question... Why not make a level where you can go to the Exit anytime you want? A level with more than one boss? A level that you can return to anytime?

I mean, Burnvictim42's Boss healthbars Don't take up much thermo space, I've done some Unpublished levels with boss like figures... Why not? I mean, It's possible, and it may be fun!

Alot of people have played with this idea, but not with bosses that I know of.

RangerZero "Sack's in the City"
clarkdef "Sacks O Treasure"
Shris "Booty Bay"

I'm sure there's more too. OutlawJack is working on one now.

I remember Thegide's MGS: Shadow Moses level has a secret area with a really short minigame in it that you can play... Otacon contacts you after winning and tells you that you don't have time to be playing games. That was a real classic 4th wall MGS moment, like when you're shooting birds, and someone tells you to stop. I recently played someone's level where they have a laser jumping training room to the right of the start, and it's a survival game you can keep playing before continuing on with the level.

With what purpose? As in, what is the incentive of ignoring the gate? If it is to actually play the level, that NinjaMicWZ's post does have the type of levels you have in mind.

All these levels are like that, especially Booty Bay where you don't even need a minimum of anything to finish. You can leave whenever you want, with 0 points and nothing done, or go around doing a multitude of tasks until you've had your fill.

I guess you mean a free-roam? Cuz a level that you can leave anytime would be one of those. A level with multiple bosses is called a "boss-rush" around here (whereas, you can go through several bosses; Any boss at any time.) We haven't seen a combo of the two yet (unless I add that into my upcoming level, that is...) But what MicWZ has posted are levels that give you the option to ignore the exit at any given time. Sorry Ninja, I guess I missread.

And A bossrush Freeroam level would be nice to have, You could have four areas interlocked with four bosses hidden in random places... even a puzzle minigame or two...

well boss rush 3 (a community compilation of bosses) is being worked on right now. Its in a "beta" phase so to speak, i expect it will end up in the showcase withn a few weeks.2009-07-25 21:12:00
