Just a Little Bug

Archive: 11 posts

When you aren't logged in, you get a little message saying:

Welcome to the LittleBigPlanet Central Forums. ect

After this, there is a little php comment mark that looks like this:

-->

If you go to AdminCP > Styles & Templates > Style Manager > [YOUR DEFAULT TEMPLATE] > Edit Templates (from the drop down menu) > Forum Home Templates > FORUMHOME

Now in the FORUMHOME template by default, you should have something like this:

<if condition="$show['guest']">
<!-- guest welcome message -->
<table class="tborder" cellpadding="$stylevar[cellpadding]" cellspacing="$stylevar[cellspacing]" border="0" width="100%" align="center">
<tr>
<td class="tcat"><phrase 1="$vboptions[bbtitle]">$vbphrase[welcome_to_the_x]</phrase></td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td class="alt1">
<phrase 1="faq.php$session[sessionurl_q]" 2="register.php$session[sessionurl_q]">$vbphrase[first_visit_message]</phrase>
</td>
</tr>
</table>
<!-- / guest welcome message -->

Somewhere you have taken away part of the code or added something extra in. At a guess you have taken this out:

<!-- / guest welcome message

So you can either delete the spare:

--> or add
<!-- / guest welcome message

Hope this helps. If you need any assistance with this, just send me a PM or email.

Well, not bad for a first post, I'm off to the introductions forum.

See you

Wow, a simple 'get rid of the arrow' would have worked!

Lol.

lol, yeah.

Not to be rude, but I'm pretty sure the CC knows what he's doing.

In which case, he can read the first four lines and sort it. If not he can read on. It doesn't take a genius to set up a vBulletin forum in which case, the admin might not have sat looking at the templating system.

I'm sorry for my ignorance, but what are you trying to do...? From what I understand, it has something to do with removing the intro thingie for non registered users... probably wrong, but, well, I'll just hope CC knows what it is 2009-07-24 17:51:00

Lol. True.

I think he knows PHP, or he used vBulletin before.

Wow, I'm impressed! I'm glad to see someone else who knows how to utilize the template system in vB - I see too many people completely ignore it. In any case, the issue was in the FORUMHOME template, but it was due to certain browsers ignoring a comment I included, displaying a stray "-->". I've just removed the comment, and it should be just fine now. Thanks for pointing it out. 2009-07-24 19:52:00

And in the process, you screwed up the forums!

But I'll shut up now.

But I'll shut up now.

Well, what happened was, there was a comment that looked like this:

<!--
HTML
-->

In some browsers, that instructs it to ignore the HTML, but (I quickly learned when I did this sort of thing months ago) not all. I removed the --> thinking I had just left a stray one hanging around, and instead I ended up commenting the entire forums (due to the open <!--). As you can see, it was quickly fixed once I realized what was actually going on.

There'll never be any doubt that you would fix things, CC. I work with this sort of code a lot, and it's easy to overlook the blighters!

Trouble is, because you fixed it, I'll have to spend the money on buying you a cake, instead of buying an LBPC thong! lol

*whispers* - It's 'Be Nice to CC Day' today

The only bug I have is when I press a tab, theres a big blank space near the banner.
