The Miracle of Life

The Miracle of Lifepoms
Hi everyone. I'm posting to tell the community I've finally published my new level ?The Miracle of Life?.
It's the story of a small ?Sperm Sack?, thought in the level he is called ?500.000.001? (I've always been scared this level becomes moderated).
I think it's my best creation to date and it's got all the elements that a great level must have: great atmosphere, humor, fun game play, a beautiful story? etc.
I've been developing the idea of this level even before ?The Bunker?, but though I always thought it was a great idea, I wasn?t sure it could work as a LBP level. Also the fact that LBP is a +7 game, made me changed my mind. Then I had the idea of making it, as if it was a space trip to ?the unknown caves?, that could be ok for a 7 year old kid to play, but at the same time, older players could notice the ?second intention? of the story xDD
I don't want fall into hypocrisy with false modesty xDD, the level is amazing xD.
It's incredibly detailed, has been tested to death, and all the creatures and ?vehicles? appearing in it have been selected between tons of creatures I created for the occasion.
Shame it will be unintentionally compared with ?The Bunker? by lots of players, but this one is nearer ?Hell?s Angels? that ?The Bunker?.

I hope you all try this level, and have lots of fun!! xD

Greetings Poms!

Congrats on finally publishing this one! ..and thanks so much for the honor of helping you play test!! That was quite a bit of fun as well as a real treat!

Incredibly innovative use of materials lighting and color. Wacky machines and other "stuff" attempting to thwart your progression to ummm uhh.. well.. the goal!! Your style on this is quite bizarre, but considering the storyline, it fits wonderfully as well as tastefully. Almost like Dr Seuss met Dali and Tim Burton at a bar and decided to make a LBP level. Great stuff! Anyone familiar with your work will do a double take wondering if this is really the same person! I loved the "intro" as well as the custom character. ..stepping lightly around what it all was so as not to get modded!!

I loved the wacky vehicles as well as the big CHOMP monsters you have to feed. I loved the last challenge, but had difficulty auto plane shifting to the back layer when jumping on the middle or front ones. I chalked it up to just making it more challenging so not really an issue. I also liked the use of the X to remove the jet pack prior to the jet pack to thwart those attempting to go backward. Nice touch! I also loved the little beasties that you have to shoot down with the paint fun. Those were so cool!!

All in all really a fun level. Not too terribly difficult, but still presents quite a few innovative challenges as well as some amazing eye candy.

I had to give it :star::star::star::star::star: and a heart. Awesome work my friend!!

This level is awesome, the idea, the materials, the way that u converted it to lbp, i played it twice and could find any technical problems although at the part with the spinning wheels it took me a while to figure out that u only need to collect all the "points" to continue, i don't know maybe i'm just stupid but seriously, a great level, nice way too keep it from getting modded, the character design is amazing, obviously 5 stars 2009-07-24 19:39:00

Great level.

A bit mature oriented but really really great.
I wonder how you did the wheel stuff.

I was just gonna post this in the recommendations, I absolutelly loved this level! Fantastic level design, aesthics are great, creatures are brilliant, fun to play, ... actually i can't say anything bad about this level, the big wheel can be a bit frustrating because of the automatic layer switching but still 5 stars and a heart!

I actually still have not played The Bunker... I saw the last part of it on a quickplay when I joined someone midgame, and kept meaning to try it out again, but just never have.

This was a solid level and a pretty cool concept... some fun platforming and a good deal of variety and weird things to ride on (interesting wheel design) and swing around, tons of sticker use to create what is a very, very creepy uterus from a woman I would never want to meet. I like the giant snapping heads in the walls and the use of tentacles. The double helix of lights is very cool looking, and there's some neat uses of light at the beginning and end. I like that this level is HUGE and has plenty of room to move in.

I did encounter some bits where things felt slow, presumably because of lighting and object complexity, but nothing ever caused any cheap deaths and I can't complain. Like you said though, nothing broke or failed, no restarts... nothing. I like what you mentioned about selective enemy use - that's cool to see someone make a pallet to select the best candidates from.

The look reminds me of a cross between OCK's "The Legion" because of the use of embedding and shapes, and the large scale open feel, and MostEvilMilo's "Belly of the Beast" because of the material choice for being inside someone. I think you got a really unique look though because of the abundance of monster kit stickers.

Good stuff, I don't see why anybody wouldn't enjoy this level, and I'm finally off to the play Bunker now.

Does anyone knows what is going on with the rate sistem?. The level has no rate xDD, not 3 or 4 or 5 stars... it just doesn't have any!

I noticed that too and had no idea, but x-sonni-x made a level saying that patch 1.17 is making all the new levels like this, I'm not sure if this is true, but if it is they need to change it back.

By the way great level, was really fun and had some very original gameplay. I gave it 5 stars.

I was wondering about the no star rating thing on my friends level. Joey (username here at LBPC) published a level after the patch and his has no star rating either.

Absolutely loved this level, from the music used which matched perfectly, to the detail and flat out abnormality in the level.

I mean, now I know why women get the sudden cravings when they're pregnant, those dang strawberry eating monsters!

The last part and the lighting was amazing.

I gave it a 5 stars and a heart, well deserved.

Nice to hear that Waaaale. Thanks.
I've seen the level has reached 1st page of cool levels this morning. That will give it lots of plays. Still don't know the "mistery" of how to get a level in 1st page, but the thing is the level is there.
I added some more light yesterday afternoon, and arrenged the slow-motion effect in some parts of the level. This was due to the amount of hidden lights, but as now is not that dark anymore, I could delete a few of them. Also improved the final secuence.

Thanks to all who played it!!

hey poms, just played the miracle of life. it is easily the best looking level on lbp. in fact it surpasses pretty much all of the MM story levels. everything was so beautiful and so well designed. the lighting too, was equally impressive, i liked the DNA effect you did. it was also clever how you used such a delicate theme and made it double edged, so young and old would see it as 2 different things.

despite the unparalleled graphics and presentation, i did feel that the actual gameplay was very simple, but you covered this up with great creature design and variety. good job!

A weird and womberful level. Really beautifully designed Poms, it was a real treat to just gawp around, let alone play. I love the slightly bizarre spin, and really liked the variety you put in, the upside down crab vehicle thing especially, that sort if thing is rarely used in a themed level. Very slick and polished, cute ending too!!2009-07-27 00:57:00

Fantastic use of decorations and the lighting is awesome! Gameplay is medium difficulty imo but that's good for mainstream players. The walking jet thingies are really funny and the monsters eating strawberries are hilarious. I think the group I was with managed to mess up one area though. With 4x it's hard to make the transition from the last walking jet thingie to the checkpoint on the left. When we played there was another walker already there (we'd missed one) and the other crashed into it and began walking down and breaking apart just above the tiny opening where the checkpoint is. Hard to be more specific about where but I hope you know where I mean.

Overall I loved it. Gave it 5 stars & hearted it.

Dude!! The Miracle of Life was freaking awesome!! A little creepy, but totally cool! I was so interested in my surroundings, and looking for what comes next, that I kept having a tendency of dying! LOL! I would forget I was playing, and was gawking at everything! The little furry chomp monster were so creepy, and strange, but they had such character to them!! I was confused on exactly what they actually were and part of the body would have that inside us... LOL! Your little traveling platforms were fun! That is where I kept dying, because I was too busy trying to figure out how to build something like that! I gave you 5 stars, and I've already have played it 3 times, and brought friends! I did play all your others, I liked them alot, but this one was awesome! Bravo!2009-07-28 01:51:00

First of all, I loved the dark atmosphere of it all. The artistic direction was very focused and definitely leaves the norm for LBP style levels (this is a good thing). There were some truly unique moments that really made the level for me:
1. The little vehicle that crawls all over the wall. It was a fresh twist on the gravity defying vehicles, and it made me smile.
2. The little mini-game style "collect all the bubbles on the moving platform" section. Some people make whole levels on the concept, but you squeezed it in the middle of a legitimate one.

There was very creative use of decorations throughout, and the atmosphere was very well done. The little 'sperm' were weird for me because they weren't the traditional white color, but I suppose they fit well into the level. I only experienced one little hiccup in my playthrough. There was one part where you has to swing to these little guys who would burp and open their mouths. On the last one, I swung and didn't jump right away into his mouth. Then he shut his mouth, and I was trapped swinging there with nowhere to go.

Other than that, great level. It's too bad you had to release it when the ratings are broken.

Hey, thanks for your feedback people
I'm still updating the level, so if you played it 1 or 2 days ago, you?ll find some surprises xDD

...With 4x it's hard to make the transition from the last walking jet thingie to the checkpoint on the left...
Morgana, I?m affraid this level was made for one player. Though it is "prepared" to be played by 4, some platforms, the balloons... everithing is made for one player. Anyway I'm glad you enjoied it

hey poms, just played the miracle of life. it is easily the best looking level on lbp. in fact it surpasses pretty much all of the MM story levels...
Wow, elliot, this is what I call a compliment xDD
Thanks!

A weird and womberful level!...
Thanks! Jules. I'd have prefered "an ORIGINAL and wonderful level"... xDD
Yes, you're right it is a bit weird

one of the best levels of LBP!
I never get tired of hearing this kind of things xDDDDD
Seriously, thanks mate

...You made making babies fun again!
CCubbage, making them, has always been fun! xDDD

I played it like alot of times. It was fun.
But kinda odd playing an E rated video game with that level.

You're probably right Leonardo. There are moments I think I had to theme the level any other thing. But otherwise, there's nothing in the level that a kid wouldn't be allowed to see, and I'm not the proper person to give education to anybody, but today, very few kids believe children come from Paris, and in certain way, I would say this level is educational...

Ah!.. and your spanish does NOT suck man! Believe me, you're doing well

Dude!! The Miracle of Life was freaking awesome!!
Thx, thx, thx xDDDDD

Amazing level. :star::star::star::star::star: and a heart.
Thanks Arkei

-I thought nobody would mention about the minigame xD. It was a challenge to fit that in an overheated level. And it's true, I've played 4 star levels with something a bit worse that just that minigame, and probably TMOL will get only 3 stars. This is life... and it is not a miracle
-I'll have to correct you xDD, the sperm cell, seen trough a microscopic... is black

Amazing level here. I had this idea a while back, but this is done so much better than I am capable of...well, it's a good thing you made it first.
Just wondering, how'd you make the DNA strand?
Apelles, if I was you, I'd do any other thing than a level about this... you'll be more successfull if you build any other thing.

Ok, about the DNA "effect", there's no secret:
Put the medium grill on, add an x number of lights, make a bar by the lights and past each light with a piston to that bar. Then change the bar to a backward dimension, and put anything to hide the bar.
The pistons have to be sinchronized for example like in my level:
full cicle tempo: 4sec
sinchronization: light 1: 0.5, light 2: 1, light 3: 1.5, light 4: 2 etc. etc
when sinc. time reaches 4, start again with the next ligh.
I'm sorry if you don't understand anything, but my english is... limited xDDD

Thank you all again for your feedback, I'm taking a small creating "holiday" now xDD. But I'll be back with something new very soon. I can't help it xDDDD

Oh I forgot about the little mini-game, that was my favorite part after the DNA strand. I love when creators put mini-games or survival challenges in the middle of their levels, it adds more fun. You did it very well! I have a question about it, is it set to dissolve after a certain amount of time or after you get a certain amount of bubbles or all the bubbles or what?

Edit: Thanks a lot for saying my spanish doesn't suck and I hear you about the vacation from creating, usually I take like a 2 week or more vacation since when I create I spend like a whole week straight without stopping.

My guess is that each sperm has a hidden magnetic key on them all of the same color and a single magnetic switch in the center of the rotating circles with a radius set large enough to encompass all of the sperm and set to inverted and one-shot.

Now when all of the sperm are eliminated, think taking out the competition, then the switch one-shots the wheels and you fall through.

------

I played this level last night because I got a message from a friend raving about it.

I agree, this is an amazing level that works on many different levels. At its simplest form it has solid platforming elements broken up with a variety of transitional seques. (Vehicles, balloons, elevators) There is enough variety here that it is like a small buffet with an wide assortment of goodies to nibble on.

The level also excels on with the visual imagery and the connotation/denotations littered throughout. The scenery without the ideas behind them are beautiful and with the added filter of the concept of the level it is very lush but in a jolting, off-kilter way. (Giving the level an impact on the player on multiple levels.)

I think you've done a good job keeping things indirect enough that there really isn't anything offensive to innocents but there may be enough over-bearing people out there needing to control what they don't like that there could be times when it is Good Griefed.

There isn't a lot of specific points to raise I think as the whole level flowed easily and cleanly enough that I think you've done a good job working out the bugs.

Good work on this it is a beautiful and fun level.

I played this last night and was thoroughly impressed! The visuals and the gameplay was top notch! The concept was very cool, but risky and you managed to pull it off very tastefully.

Some of my favorite parts were the big chomping creatures (loved the way they moved!) and the egg mini game at the end with it's amazing DNA conclusion! You just handled that moment so well with the fade to white. Very, very cool!

Great level!

The level had a bit of a "mature" theme, but the level worked so well and it was so fantastically detailed that I did not mind that at all. The story was a watered down version of how babies are made, and you fit it into LBP very well. Many kids probably won't understand the "true meaning" but the adults will.

The detail and was fantastic. I loved the monsters, the art style and choice of materials you used. It was a bit different from the norm, but that's kinda a good thing. The platforming was very creative too. The things on wheels were well done and I liked it when you fed the monsters strawberries.

The minigame near the end reminded me of the Islands minigame in the storymode, but it was good how you got to fit a minigame in between a level. Something that is rarely done. The DNA effect at the end was magnificent, and again, you rarely see stuff like that in LBP. (which is a good thing)

Overall, I gave this :star::star::star::star::star: and a heart. Too bad you published it when the ratings aren't showing for most new levels.

To be honest, I was a little apprehensive about playing this. I was figuring that this was going to be a weird misrepresentation of the facts of life, boy was I pleasantly surprised!

I loved the look of it, a very consistant art style through out. well thought out and original ideas. I loved that guy with the wobbly legs that walked upside down. The dna was such a simple yet brilliant idea. I loved the minigame element.

In terms of the content, i thought you handled it perfectly. Its a little like the simpsons, any mature humour would go unoticed by the younger ones. This is what I liked the most.

Thouroughly enjoyed this so thanks for sharing.

This is the second much praised level I played today and yet again I got stuck.

There is a jetpack section after which a huge monster blocks the path. If you fly to close to its mouth it eats you. How do I get passed it?

Up to that point I really liked it and I'm very pleased to be no sperm and that I have no memories of being one. ^.^

Well, as the speaking sperm says before the red balloons, "Our destiny is near, but only one of us will reach it". Probably I had to place that speech just before the minigame, but the thing is you have to pick up all the "spermbubbles" to get into the "ovum weel" xD

I wish I could get that into it. My current level...well, I guess it's a trilogy, is taking me over 4 months.
Have a look at this video. It helped me alot to build the minigame:

YouTube - MM Tips Special - Survival Challenges

Bingo xD
That is exactly how I did it xDD

Hey, thanks mr. I apreciate that coming from a phenomenon like you

(...)The minigame near the end reminded me of the Islands minigame in the storymode, but it was good how you got to fit a minigame in between a level.(...)

You're right, that's where I got the idea from.
I had to build a "ovum weel", and that was the most similar thing I found.

Vaya, un espa?ol por aqu? jaja!

Don't worry, I'll put bubble prices of the DNA thing, vehicles, monsters etc...as soon as the level leaves cool pages.

Thouroughly enjoyed this so thanks for sharing.
:star::star::star::star::star: and a heart
Hey, wefordian, now that nobody listens, I confess I'm a fan of your levels.
Thanks for your comments!! xD

There is a jetpack section after which a huge monster blocks the path. If you fly to close to its mouth it eats you. How do I get passed it?
That monster, only eats two things: Sack boys and strawberrys. Why don't you search for a strawberry near the red light?

Thanks everybody for the good feedback. I'm so happy most of you liked my level.
If it wasn't for the rate system being broken, my satisfaction would be fully complete.
Thanks again

I loved this level, but I think it got me pregnant.

just kidding. It was a great level. I usually am uncomfortable around stuff like this, but I thought it was really well done. Although, if that's how babies are made, i DEFINITELY don't want to have one, ever.

My husband and I really enjoyed the dna strand at the end. I thought it was one of the most effective pieces of imagery I've ever seen in a level!

gave you five stars, a heart and tagged it Hoists (that's what I tag everything I love with)!

Great level poms. Really impressed by how different it is. I haven't read over many of the comments so forgive me if I say something that's already been said.

It's a strange one, but that's a great thing. It's so impressive because you couldn't have taken inspiration from anywhere for it really. It is all your work, no one else has done anything like that before so it is completely innovative.

For such a delicate and 'close to being moderated' subject, you have managed to pull it off in an incredible way. You can only really see what's actually going on if you stop and think about it. For that reason, it will mostly go over the youngsters heads yet they'll still love the strangeness of it, and the older people appreciate what it all means.

Only downside, just how simple the platforming is, but in a level like this there's not much you can do about it. It's more about the visuals and crazy characters. Perfectly understandable.

5 stars! Great work. So different from your others too which makes it even better.

Oh, the DNA strand. One of the most visually stunning things I've seen in LBP. Absolutely amazing.

OK, ?The Miracle of life? has finally got 4 stars, which as I said once, it's not bad, but to be honest, it wasn?t the objective when I released the level. Is that a lack of modesty? I don't see why. If my other levels became quite successful, you can understand my objective wasn?t to get less that the others.
I built this level trying to innovate a little bit, but I think I didn?t get kid?s sympathy with it.
I probably had to build a multicolored level ornamented with plenty of flowers and happy music? but I can?t see myself doing this. I like building levels I?d like to play, but I?ll have to face it: this is a kid?s game. Probably it's me who is out of place.
I still think my level is a great one, but, every father/mother thinks his son is the smartest of the class, when he is not.
I?m also coincident there are a lot of haters out there, but when a level has been played and rated by more than 40.000 visits, there?s no discussion. ?The Miracle of Life? has the same rate that my horrible ?4 minigames and a half? which took me less that a weekend to build. This makes me feel quite stupid.

I was already preparing my new level ?Atlantis?, but first I think I?ll take a long break, because if I build it now, I?ll end up building another bizarre, dark, scary, and strange level not recommended for young kids xD

I?d like to thank all the good comments in this thread; I know you all appreciate the effort I put in this level.
See you soon!!!

I wouldn't take it so hard.. and do Atlantis how YOU want.

I think for me the end result is I want to build levels I want to play. Obviously I was hit with the rating bug as you were, but I decided not to concern myself with republishing. Not so much as I knew it was better than that, but possibly just to take fate on the chin so as not get so stressed about ratings in the future.

From the accolades and comments from folks I have quite a bit of respect for, I know I did well and am not giving it another thought. I would challenge that even the Mm levels undergoing scrutiny of the vast age range of players would fair well. You can't please everyone, but I do know what the average player wants and likes to play. However, I already did one of those general public ones as an experiment and it ended up a huge hit. Regardless of how many times I have been asked to do another, unless I feel I am into it and think up something really fun and different for a more general public level, I am going to continue creating exactly what I want and think is FUN!!! ..unless of course they want to start paying me $$.

I don't think you're being immodest, but:

#1:
Anytime you feel sad... just go to highest rated and look for the BIGGEST BUBBLE ON THE ENTIRE PLANET!!!!!!!! .

#2:
Ratings are simply a barometer of how easily little kids died on your level. For instance, I had a little girl with a lame arm play "The Bunker" last night. She has to use her left arm and her FOOT to work the controller. She beat it. It's an awesome game that I personally have played many times - but it's balanced to be fairly easy. That, combined with the great quality, will equal 5 stars to virtually everyone playing it... regardless of age.

HOWEVER, the Miracle of Life is one of the best looking levels I've ever seen, but there are several places in it which require real gaming skill - I had to help my son beat the "Giant sperm wheel of death". So, if several hundred 7-year-olds get ahold of it, there ya go - 4 stars. They aren't mature enough to rate on quality, but rate purily on how it made them feel.

Which do I like better? I, like many more adults, enjoy a bit more difficult gameplay - so I prefer this one over "The Bunker".

Awesome job! "I" think this one is a 6 star level.

Wait whatwhatwhat?
Build Atlantis how you like it.
Yourself at first said that kids hate you...
Well...who gives a ****!

Here in this forum there's maybe the 60% of the finest elite creators of LBP, and you're one of them.
A single word of praise from CCubbage, Ninja, Morgana, jackofcourse and all the others I forgot to mention, is more worthy than every star the LAME rating system of the game can give you.

I still think that rating should be allowed at least only if you complete the level.
I also think that you should have at least 100 hearts as a creator before rating, but that's another story and another thread.

Poms, we LOVE your levels, keep up your quality and your self esteem.
If you need a break, fine, but remember that we're waiting for another wonderful level of yours.

I'm sorry you feel disappointed that it dropped to 4 stars. I will try very hard to be diplomatic here, so forgive me if it doesn't come across...

I, like many here, enjoyed your level very much. It was something different, something exciting, and something that touched on mature themes but was presented with charm and innocence. I loved it.

But people are different, and everyone likes different things. In my eyes, 4 stars is a great rating on here (but I have no 5 star-levels, so I do not know how I would feel if my first levels were 5 star, and my next one wasn't).

I feel very disappointed when a level I enjoy is underrated. Look at my friend's level - Space Escape by jwwphotos. There is no way on Earth that it is a 3 star level. But yet, the players of LBP have made it so. Look at Abyss! by Jaeyden. 4 star? I would say definately 5. There are many more too, and of course there are many that are over-rated also.

So, all us creators are trying our best to get through the crazy rating system. Personally, I enjoyed The Miracle of Life more than The Bunker, so it shows you that maybe I know nothing!

I hope you do not have a long break - because then, in some eyes, it will look like the haters and the bad-raters have won. They have NOT won! LBP needs people like you, like jww, like Jaeyden, and like wexfordian, Grantos, IceMaiden, CuzFeeshe, RangerZero, Morgana, mdaj and all our other favourite creators.

I'm sure when you look back, you will see that you have every right to be proud of your work, because I know that I am very proud of your work.

Ohh my g.... ok . i don't know you personally poms but wtf ? if you listen to yes men long enough you are guaranteed to lose your way. if you think your level deserves 5 stars & you r not overjoyed with 4 then u have problems. i hope it is just hangers on & forumites that r giving this impression. i hope u dont think u deserve 5 as that is crazy behaviour . objectively there r loads of things in your level people would give 2 stars for. i wont list them as u should already know . time, work, & effort don't relate to stars, ur level has all these. expecting 5 stars or your hangers on expecting 5 is laughable . behave. people hate even mm's levels & u aren't going to get 5 every time . frankly i find this need for 5 stars extremely distasteful but your levels are quite good. not my taste but i was & have been very impressed. Mix some humble character in with them & silence the kids & you will be free to create anything : ) even 4 star levels2009-08-12 01:06:00

I think having the Highest Rated level on LBP might have gotten you an ego with you expecting ALL your levels to have 5 stars. To be honest I can name dozens of levels that in my opinion are ALOT better than The Bunker (the level which the LBP community has rated the highest). And you have nothing to be sad about, you have almost 10,000 author hearts, 2 levels on the highest rated page that each bring you endless hearts and plays. Do you know how many great authors wish to even have half of what you do? you should appreciate what you have now and maybe look at the other side that doesn't get the recognition that you do and be happy with what you have.2009-08-12 06:01:00

I'm going to interject something here.... go back and read Pom's message carefully. This is not someone saying "My level deserves 5 stars, darn it! I quit!!". He is stating an absolutely VALID point about the LBP rating system - one that I personally have been pondering for 6 months.... how are people out there rating levels? Does the rating system make any sense at all?

To answer this I went down through 40 pages of highest rated today and did a scan through to see if I could find some common elements. The only thing I could really come up with is DIFFICULTY.

So.... maybe adults are rating levels fairly based on objective information such as aesthetics and gameplay - but we can't forget that there is a TON of little kids playing which don't rate based on that - if the difficulty level in a game is beyond them, they low rate. Period. Which makes it difficult to create ANY challenging gameplay at all.

Commercial games - even kids games - don't necessarily have this issue. Kids will play a challenging Mario game... go figure.

LBP should have genres and difficulties so people can be steered to the proper games for them.

Nice one CCubbage.. you beat me to it.

I agree, as we have discussed several times, that there needs to be genres as well as difficulty factor to help catagorize levels better.

I also now agree that someone be required to finish the level before rating. ...prior I was thinking if you ran out of lives rather than quit a level you could rate, but after some comments on Ninja's Free at Last I understand as well as support your idea on this one.

If you think that, it's because you don't know anything about me. And I'd like you to tell me what exactly made you think that. I'm always trying to be honest and call things by its name. If I publish a new level after "The Bunker" and "Hell's", I can't present myself with a new level pretending to make people believe I'm happy if it gets 3 or 4 stars.
Anyway, I preffer being immodest, that a false.

Fair points. i'd be happy with 4 stars tho as 5 is near impossible & 5stars can only go down. The idea of clear catagories is a great idea as some levels people are excited about making might appeal to a niche market & don't deserve 2 or 3 stars etc because the general public just don't 'get it'.2009-08-12 15:55:00

Dang, you sure do sound mad. And I didn't sound as bad as Jbear, which you didn't even respond to. And when did I ever say to you "not improve", go and make Atlantis don't let the fact the people rated this level lower than your previous levels stop you, and besides the Highest Rated page is a joke, there's only 2 levels on that page that I would consider TRULY worthy of 5 stars. The rest are crappy levels that were rated 5 stars early on and Trophy and Prize Bubble levels. Btw, even though I don't think Miracle of Life is a 5 star level, I do think it's ALOT better than the bunker and your hells angels levels. I think it's a beautiful level that offers a good amount of gameplay, that's why it's on my hearted list.

Your lack of respect for other people's work, and the "wisedom" you talking with "this is 4 star...", "this is not 5 star..", "this is better/worse that whaterver"... etc makes me "mad", "sad", and "sick".
You shouldn't judge other people's work that easly, and don't be that sure you're in possesion of the whole knowledge of this game.
I agree with some points in your posts, but you sound very offensive, prepotent and disrespectful.

I definetly dont think I came across as disrespectful, and if I did, I surely didnt mean it. And I don't judge others work that easily, not including the trophy levels I have played ALL the levels on the Highest Rated page each multiple times and some even over a dozen times. And I NEVER said I new everything about this game, I just speak what I know from experience and am not just gonna hold back.

Well not all creators think there levels automatically deserve 5 stars just because they worked hard on the level. The fact is there's been so many creators that have released amazing levels that obviously have been put lots of work into. A great is example is Wexfordian's three new levels, they are all great and it seems like he put lots of work into them, they are all 4 star levels, I don't see him complaining. And look at Jwwphotos, his new level is undeservingly 3 stars, yet I have noticed he takes pride in the great comments from his friends and the community than some idiot rating his level low. And PLEASE STOP putting words in my mouth, I NEVER said your levels didn't deserve the attention that they have now.... And I never said they were overrated.2009-08-13 07:51:00

Don't worry about the four stars man, it always happens eventually! It's just luck if a level maintains a five star rating 'cause nothing can please absolutely everyone, just be glad that it has several plays and hearts, and that people are saying that it's the best level they have ever played. That means more than a silly rating! 2009-08-13 12:17:00

I totally see your point, but you have to remember - we're not talking about 'ego' here, as far as I can see. It's perfectionism - a striving to do better, and I work every day with this 'engineer' problem-solving mentality. The problem is, the rating system doesn't reflect quality so it's difficult to do this.

'What to expect out of the rating system' sounds like a good thread topic... this thread should be about how much fun this level is.

How about everyone concedes that a) Poms was just nicely posing a rating question and b) the whole ego thing be dropped and everyone shake digital hands?

Ah.... OmegaSlayers comment just appeared in here agreeing with that sentiment.

So, what's the takeaway point? Popping sperm rules!

Endless...did you realize where poms comes from?
Menorca, Spain, one of the most lively places in the world, with good weathers, hot girls (and males? I don't care), and just fun to be had, still he's working hard with LBP.
If I would spend nights in front of LBP while living there, I would expect at least 6 stars from every level.
Just joking...but I think that this ego thing should end asap.

Endless echo, you probably choossed the wrong moment to come along with your comments, and I took everything the wrong way, but I can't help telling you that if you say "Miracle of life" deserves 4 stars, and it's a better level that "The Bunker", what should I understand you are saying?
You're also telling me not to put words in your mouth, but you're saying "not all creators think there levels automatically deserve 5 stars just because they worked hard on the level". When did I say that??
Anyway, I know you'll never give up, so let's finish it with a handshake, ok?

One of the issues with internet discussions is that it is hard to always know the intentions of words. Things can be misread, misinterpreted, or mistaken, especially considering if one of those posters primary language is not english.

However.. I will say that having the pleasure of getting to know Poms these many months on this forum and chatting back and forth while beta testing each others levels, he is extremely passionate and wonderfully committed to perfecting and advancing his art and level making creativity. Regardless of what anyone thinks his levels should be rated or what they think of him for feeling as he does, his amazing love and dedication to that task has earned my deepest respect and admiration as well as considering him one of my best friends here. ..and I think with him being Spanish, that passion is overwhelming by anything we are normally accustomed to by US standards. He is really a wonderful person and most honored that he considers me his friend.

I really appreciate the comments about me... wow.. I keep coming up in conversations like I am actually somebody!? YIKES! ..that's kinda cool and thanks so much for that!

.. but for what it's worth.. my level is 3 stars I think mostly due to the rating bug as well as it being a bit challenging to folks that know me best for my fun, but easy Baja level. I got an email last night from someone that was a big fan of Baja after playing my new one telling me "Dude! Your levels need work! They are just too hard and others are pointless!" I got a chuckle out of that one actually...

So again.. when reading and posting, give someone the benefit of the doubt because it is entirely possibly they either didn't write it they way they had hoped, or you didn't read it the way it was intended.

..and CCubbage.. the digital handshake thing and uhh.. uhhh... popping rules? Gheesh.. I knew you were a bit bonkers and love you for it... but I think maybe you possibly spent a bit too much time on your date with "Destiny". LOL!!

..and Poms.. if you don't start working on Atlantis, I am coming over there to have some words with you!!!!

Best regards!!!

Back on topic! I found a lot of problems at work were solved when I told all my employees they were no longer allowed to argue through emails - too many misunderstandings. Unfortunately, we don't have the luxury in a forum to meet face-to-face.... but unfortunately in an unfair world, in this unfair community in lbp... they think u do not. =( but take to heart that people that do matter, think it deserves 5 starz! ur levelz rating iz corrupted by the lack of skillz of all the noobz playing online. i notice that the noobz would actually quit a level and rate it low if they cannot perform a certain task. but all the expert playerz and expert creatorz know the truth. your level was freekin amazing!!! dont let it get u down. every1 here im sure thinks ur new level is unrivaled by other levelz. let the all haterz hate u... itz alrite. they only hate u cuz they are not as good as u and they cannot compete with ur lvls. dont let those jerks win!!!!

take a lil break then make new stuff. keep throwing ur awesome levels in their face!!! iz the best way 2 get back at them. they will hate u more, but ohhh well. do all the good creators a favor. make all those jerks feel so inferior, the quit lbp. make em quit 4 good! haha!

A little late coming to this level, but I finally played it and it's absolutely outstanding. Definitely one of my top favorite levels in LBP.

Can't wait to see what you have in store for us next!

Korndawwg, thanks I'm not really as worried as I was 2 o 3 days ago, because I realise people still keep playing the level, lol, I saw it once in busyest!

CCubbage, I think I'm starting to agree with you in... everything!

Pssssssht... Omega, you've reveled the secret!... why do you think I need a break????
Fair enough, btw just because I said your MOL was better than the Bunker doesn't mean I think it deserves a low rating...I personally think it's a solid 4 star level and MOL is almost a 5 star level, its just that I have 1 or 2 problems with it.

OMG! We just did the Journey of the Sperm in Science, and had to write a story about it. I could post it, it's called "Journey to the end of the *male part*"

ON TOPIC:

I really, really enjoyed this level. I though *Oh god, another body level* but in reality, it is one of the best I've played! 5 stars and a Heart!

Just played this, freaking stellar. The unsettling of expectations I think is what pushes this over the top into incredible territory for me. The level's called "the miracle of life", and it's to be a magical journey through the human body, following dna through the cellular journey to fertilization.

The icon is a giant green monster with chompy teeth. It doesn't even begin to do justice to the kind of twisted monsters that await in this level's world.

Do you see?? this, to me, is brilliant. I left a comment on the level itself along the lines of "Are you David Cronenberg??"

But seriously, are you a fan of Cronenberg's movies by any chance? I guarantee you, beyond a shadow of a doubt, if he played LBP, you just made his favorite level right here.

Nope, I'm not a fan of David Cronenberg though I really enjoyed "The dead zone" and his remake of "The fly".
I love classic terror films like ?Dracula? with Christopher Lee, also Sci-Fi terror films like ?Alien? and James Cameron?s sequel ?Aliens? or ?The Abyss? are a reference to me.

The truth is I felt very comfortable building all kind of monsters for this level. I felt like I could build many more levels filled up with terrifying creatures, but it's time for something different xDD

Glad you really liked my level mate
Thanks again

Ok I'll be brief... I have every one of your levels hearted...have been a fan of them for a while. This one was no exception...beautiful crisp gameplay, theme & creativeness level was great! Also, I'm a big fan of the bubble switches you used on the creature brain wheel towards the end...collect them all to open the way! LOVE IT! Very interesting level 2009-08-21 20:24:00

I ask because the level's got a certain brand of "body horror" that Cronenberg specializes in. Scary sex and body horror, combined into a very unique cocktail. Your use of ears to create all manner of skin-crawling but realistic looking insides, and the idea that sex, at that level, would actually be a gross, frightening affair full of all kinds of monsters and unnatural nasties, is very Cronenbergian. It's that angle that I love so much about this level.

I?d like to ask for advice.

I'm a bit fed up of being watching for sex related messages in my level.
"Sex level", "This level is dirty", "Should be moderated", "Inappropriate for kids"... etc. this are some of the messages I usually delete in TMOL.

What I'd like to ask you is:
Should I delete ALL the sperm cells of the level, including the ones in the minigame, the intro... etc, and substitute them for... I still don't know what but something else, in a way that only a completely twisted imagination could relate my level with its real meaning.
Kids would play it having NO idea of its history, and some obsessed parents probably either.

What would you do in that case?

Hmm... Good question. I think people are just not getting the picture, because honestly if you recognize the things as sperm you're obviously old enough to get the level, and if you don't recognize them, then they're just another strange creature in the level.

That's what people posting these messages aren't realizing. These people posting these never played the "connect the dots" games on the back of Cap'n Crunch boxes as kids. the level as you have it now is safe for everyone. If you're too young to get it, then it might as well be inside the giant whale from Pinnochio for all the kid cares. Parents, right?? Man.

So I wouldn't change it personally. But I understand the dilemma. It's never fun to have a high-maintenance level due to whiners.

Thanks Teebonesy.
It's true that if I delete all the sperms in the level, and its history becomes unrecognizable even for most adults, the level looses a lot of its charm, and I would say it looses its reason to exist.
I'm very glad MM hasn't moderated the level, which proves it is not malicious or dirty, but I'm very shocked every time I receive messages from parents telling me how inappropriate this level is.
I finally made a template letter to answer by PSN message everyone of these parents trying to make them realize that my level, in fact, is very appropriate. And it seems to work, because many of them answer telling me "oh, you're probably right".

But, I'm starting to get tired of this. I'm not the appropriate one to teach parents how to educate their kids, or to teach kids about human reproduction...

I've also realized most of these messages come from USA.
Could it be they don't teach kids these things at school in the USA?
What is wrong at the other side of the ocean?

I've gotta admit being here in America.... there is SUCH a mish-mash of culture and views that we're pretty much all over the place. There's no concistency at all.

Some parents try to protect their kids so much that they forget about basic biology... how are kids supposed to make good decisions if they are raised with NO information?

I'm not going to drag the conversation down this way, as I don't want to get too deep into controversial territory on a forum where everyone is just here to have fun (so I don't intend anything more than this one comment) but as someone who actually LIVES on the American side of the pond, I'll just say I chose my avatar for good reason.

I have a few actual dead friends because of the attitudes over here. Violently dead. There is a sociopolitical force over here that is extremely powerful, and among many things, yes, does even do it's best to prevent basic biology from being taught.

Anthropologically, when a world-view is challenged, it either eventually concedes to the new world view (Haven't hear anyone seriously bring up Thor in my lifetime), merges itself with the new world view (Santer?a is a good example of this), or fights against the new world view (this is where fundamentalism quite often comes from). In America, a large percentage of the population have chosen the last option - including many that wield a serious amount of political power.

Do not be surprised when you bring up some basic biology, history or astronomy to an American audience and some people are dumbfounded. There are people in the US going out of their way to see that these things are not taught - at least using science. Yes, astronomy too. I know of at least one "sun goes around the earth"er personally.

Oh, I see...
Thanks Ccubagge and Jagrevi for your opinions.

I remember a local friend of mine, who seems to know a bit more than me about American culture, was telling me about the case of an American University which declined to accept the theory of evolution of species, asking their teachers to sing a "contract" denying this theory...

If this is true, how are they supposed to teach about sperm cells...?

Ok, I don't want to get into controversial with this theme; I suppose each country has got its "miseries" like Spain does for sure.

Going back to topic, I'll leave the level such as it is, and if someday it becomes moderated because of the comments in it... then I'll change it.

Thanks friends!

I think in the worst-case scenario, as long as the level continues to be called "The Miracle of Life", the right people will get what you're after. I mean that's what really did it for me, the combination of the title and the icon you chose was the most compelling reason to dive into a level I have yet seen in this game.2009-08-24 03:46:00

Hi there!
I'm making a spectacular refloating to let you know about a important update in this level.
I had a lot of problems with a bad glitch that was spoiling the game experience in The Miracle of Life.
It was like a slow motion effect, but worse. I think all of these problems started because of its overheated thermo, and the huge amount of hours I spent working on it with the thermo reaching its limit.
The level worked fine for several months. But in one of the multiple updates, seems like the glitch came in? and I never could get rid of it? even if I refreshed the thermo. Well trust me; I tried everything to solve that problem. I think the slot where the level was built was glitched.
But that?s history now. The think is I knew I had to move the whole level to a new slot to ?make it come alive? again. And that?s what I did?
But I didn?t want the same thing to happen again. So I checked every single corner of every single piece of the level? and deleted an uncountable amount of useless corners.
To give you an idea, the thermo went down nearly to half?

Most important updates:
-A new introduction to the birth of the sperm-sack. New dialogs.
-First DNA strand is not doubled yet.
-Space rocket a lot faster, and Sack ?never? dies at landing.
-New logic for the jumping platforms at the arrival. New ornaments.
-Big chomp monsters move faster. Two ways to make the descent (just in case the monsters break the strawberry)
-Uncountable new details in the long platform-monster area. Slippery area deleted and substituted for a scary monsters lair.
-Second vehicle, always emitted. New camera angles, new ornaments?
-Water. Yeah, the ?aquatic? monster of course needed water. So, the monster swims nicely on a strange red coloured liquid.
-Balloon area prepared for multiplayer. Balloon maze longer, and harder.
-New platform-grab area.
-At the end of the big wheel minigame, Sack never dies, and the DNA strand shows real quick.

A few comments I've read, say the old version was better. I wonder what exactly is better in the old one, because I have no idea.
I think is some kind of nostalgia. It happens when you remember something that was good, you go back to it, and it's not as good as you remembered it.
I have both in my moon, and I declare without any doubt, that this one is better. Anyway, there?s no choice. The old one is broken.

I also had some moderation problems with this level. The icon was deleted, and I couldn?t edit the level(!). A message kept saying some content of the level had been reported, and had to wait for possible moderation actions.
I though ?oh well, I don't need a glitched level published out there, so I locked it?. But people still played it because there were keys in my other levels?
I had doubts about publishing on the old one or publishing a new one?I decided to delete the old one, but didn?t allow me either.
So, I finally published on the old one. But, one hour later, it disappeared. First thing I thought was ?Moderated?!?!?. But someone told me that when you delete a level, even if it says ?error?, it becomes deleted after some time has passed.

? Anyway, I don't want to extend myself any longer.
This is my preferred level of mine. I love this remake, and I hope you ?re-enjoy? this level too.
Kind regards!

I am yet to play the level - its on my list.

I would not delete the sperm cells.

Here is why.

Kids can only have a problem with the sperm cells IF they understand what they are. If they understand what they are, they are mature enough for the level anyway.

If they do not understand what they are, they cannot be offended.

I cannot find it under your username any longer, it seems you may have been moderated.

Moderated again? What the hell?

Perhaps you need to keep it under lock and key? Maybe have a simple level as a preface which would give away the key to it. I dunno... might still become moderated.

It was moderated because of the adult tone I bet.. It's a bit risque' but I absolutely loved it. I literally dropped my mouth open when I realized I was going through a birth canal... And what a scary uterus it was lol... The sperm were simple and ingenious. I LOVE your levels 2010-01-13 18:33:00

The level wasn't moderated, the old version had some weird glitch so he had to rebuild it from scratch.

Anyways, I much prefer the older version, there's nothing wrong with the new version (in fact there were parts that were made much better). But overall I still prefered the old, it felt like it was put together better.

The level wasn't deleted due to moderation, as I said, I just couldn't edit the level. I only could change the icon (I wonder if the icon was offensive lol).
I promised myself to keep my a$$ away from cool pages after Hell's Angels 2 was moderated, but this remake went to cool pages being locked!
I decided to give it a try when I saw it in cool pages... but that was wrong. When I woked up, I had to delete messages like "G@y", "You're a perv", "Sperm level"... I'll keep it locked.
Anyone can play it just picking up the key from any of my other levels, but all those little kids' brain won't get them far.
I've also located the level in the South Polo because I don't want people face a locked level when they get to cool pages.

I respect your opinion, but I have to disagree. The original was darker and there were more lights around, but that made the level lag a lot. I could have done it like before, but now the level runs more fluid. Just have a look at this two videos, and compare:

I knew there was a reason I liked you. Couldn't have explained it better or been more on board with ya Jagrevi. Willfull ignorance is one thing but fostering ignorance in others is just too much.

Sorry to hear they're after your level poms. From my point of view I thought you did a magnificent job of keeping it vague enough that children who didn't have some info already on the subject wouldn't know the big picture topic but I guess that the moderators didn't agree. Shame too it's a fantastic level.

I actually prefered it darker, the newer version being lighter was my biggest complaint. I understand that having more lights would have created some lag but I still think it would be worth it as it would look better overall. But it isn't all bad, like I said before there are many parts in the newer version that look a lot better, such as the red water part and some of the other details that were added.

I finally got to republish the level. It didn't allow me!
Tried 10 or 15 times and it finally went in.
I have no idea what was exactly the reason for moderation, so I've "auto-moderated" some parts of it.
Icon has been changed. Old dialogs are back. And the "grab-platform" sperms are gone. They've been substituted by some funny rolling-horrendous-bacteria, that by the way, are much more impressing that the deleted sperms.
Anyway... I got the "message" this time. I have republished the level, but it won't show in cool pages anymore. You'll find it "hidden" in the south polo.
It's locked for the moment, but you can unlock it just picking up the key from any of my other levels.

Played your Hell angels 2 level - great fun and inspired in a Brutal Legend kind of way. Thought it was great but then I played the Miracle of life - awestruck by the beauty of it all - you have a great vision for these alternative worlds (they are also great fun to play with some imaginative creatures). Just played the remake of this - very nice! I see you adjusted the difficulty in the last section .

The addition of the water was subtle but a really nice effect. It was hard to compare to the original since its a bit hard to remember the exact details of it, but the decorations and visuals were fantastic. Great job!

Thanks CCubbage! Yeah the final minigame was clearly too hard in the original, so that was the first thing to be adjusted .
I had the "crazy" idea to make two different endings for the minigame; If you succeed you went through the actual ending, but if you died, you had to go through an alternate ending were you just "didn't reach your destiny". I finally discarded it.
Thanks!

The gameplay can still need some finetweaking, but nontheless its not hard to make it to the end.

5 stars for your amazing sticker usage and your original look on the female womb.

This was also the level that inspired me to buy monster pack. Back then my username was TheCreatorX but now it's FreeAim ( my PS3 broke up ).
This was best level in Lbp I played so far. It really doesn't make sense why I give feedback to 1 year old level. This is still great fun and this reminds me why I begun training to become a good creator.

It's an epic level. One of my favorites, along with Spice and Co.

Man... Sorry to hear that poms. Not sure what to say. Maybe wait and see why it was moderated rather than starting over? Regardless it had to have been a lame excuse to good grief it and "supposedly" should be restored.2010-06-15 00:21:00

And yet levels that feature killing bovine in a vertical slaughterhouse and frying Britney Spears are allowed to survive..... Totally unfair!

Maybe someone is jealous that their ps3 has more of a chance to have children than they do....

Well.. in the case of frying Britney, I consider that more a public service.

Hey Poms

Sorry to hear that this great level of yours has been moderated. I played this level a few months ago and I loved it as much as "The Bunker" levels and "Spice & Co.". The usage of the decorations is jaw-dropping and those weird critters are amazing [especially that monster you put a lot of seaweed decorations around it.]. I would like to see this level get re-published so that I'll put it back to my playlist in hearted levels.

Thanks for your support guys
The levels is republished now. It's locked, but you can unlock it just by picking up the key from any of my other levels.
This time I won't unlock it after the first week. I'll keep it locked forever.
Thank you all again

I've played this level (i don't have a ps3 yet. I played it at my friends house. I have the game though ). It is nice. I didn't notice the whole theme first and joked about the first creature saying it looks like a sperm. Then i noticed it actually is one. Was fun to play with three players. Smart boss fight and all that. Good job!2010-06-24 10:11:00

I played that level & really didn't see anything controversial, I guess there's that black sperm but if a kid doesn't know any better its just a wiggly shape & if a kid actually knows what it is then they've already been informed so, who cares? I mean everyone here is only here because they were spewed out, what's the big deal?2010-06-24 16:40:00

I don't get why it keeps getting moderated. It isn't really even detailed into what the level's supposed to be about... It took me a while to figure out the level was about having a baby. lol

Poms: "I don’t want fall into hypocrisy with false modesty xDD, the level is amazing xD.
It’s incredibly detailed, has been tested to death, and all the creatures and “vehicles” appearing in it have been selected between tons of creatures I created for the occasion"

Haha. No it's not, it's the worst level ever made! Amazing? It looks like it was made a drunk 5 year old kid haha joking; Ofcourse you are right, this level WAS amazing! It is seriously right up there with one of the greatest levels I've ever played! Its right up there with the likes of "Sky Factory", "Tribal Ruins" and so on. Keep 'em coming Poms.... You know what would be great... A remake of this on LBP2? You probabaly wouldn't want to but it would be great! Anyway keep up the great work! L.
