Enjoy

For that lazy ones in life:

US, July 23, 2009 - If I could only be excited for one PSP game this year, it would be LittleBigPlanet PSP. I'm a Platinum Trophy holder in the PlayStation 3 version of LBP and still play the game quite often, so I'd be able to see a half-assed attempt to move the title to the PSP, and LittleBigPlanet PSP isn't that.

If you're just getting up to speed on the title/franchise, LBP PSP casts you as Sackboy, a character made out of whatever material you dig and have unlocked, and sets you loose on a bunch of crazy platforming levels. Just like the PS3 version, you're going to be able to create your own levels and share them with the world.

Sadly, Sony still isn't ready to show how the level creator will work in the portable version, but the company was happy enough to show off a new area tonight. Back at E3, Roper took you Down Under and showed you the basics of how to play (you move, jump and grab). Levels are grouped together on a burlap-like globe in LBP PSP, and after some Australian-themed high jinks, the fun moves to the new area known as "The Orient."

When I jumped into the first level of this section -- called Mortar Do -- I met with a cardboard villager in a straw hat. Through a word bubble, he explained to me that Emperor Sario needed someone to rebuild the town's wall. Up to the challenge, I set off on the quest.

Moving from the right side of the screen to the left, I found a level filled with red platforms and white walls. See, repairing the wall meant I needed to use the switches to guide missing pieces of the structure back into place so that they covered up the burning sections that would be certain death. In the beginning, it was a switch that just sent a piece to the floor, but by the end of the level I was using multiple switches to rotate, move and drop pieces all at once.

What I dug about this level is that it made excellent use of the game's different planes. See, LBP isn't 2D, there are actually different planes for Sackboy to hop between. Once I got past all the switches and floating lanterns that I used to ascend to higher places, I ran into this complicated scaffolding I needed to climb while avoiding flaming obstacles. While doing this, I had to figure out which sections of scaffolding were actually passageways and not just dead ends. It might sound mundane, but working your way through a vertical maze can be pretty cool.

Plus, when I reached the top, a dragon exploded from the floor and shot into the sky.

Yeah, I'm a LBP fan overall, but I'm willing to bet I end up being an LittleBigPlanet PSP fan as well. Aside from the fact that it's all the platforming and cuteness that made the PS3 version a success, the idea of being able to create levels on the bus ride to work is pretty cool. I'm going to increase the amount of e-mails I send Sony begging for this game, so expect more impressions soon.

That would be quite awesome if they can pull that off.
Just let there be a special border or signal that you are playing a level made on a psp.

But in all honesty, I don't see this happening.
I am not hoping for it, that way I will not be let down as well.

Well, most of the lpb ps3 crowd doesn't own a keyboard either.
Not that big a change for them, we will also learn to live with it.

I have a PSP, but I'm not into handheld...or better...my lifestyle is anti-handheld.
I get out of my house, take my car, go to work, work, back to my house with my car, sleep.
So I can play only at home, while I'm already tired and I don't want to get (more) blind staring at a 4" screen.

i don't mind with no keyboard, it's fine by me.
They have a connecting thing between LBP and LBP PSP but that's probably just costumes and materials but still awesome!

Sackboy with a PSP helmet, lol.

The Chinese levels sound cool, still looking for a Western and Space set of levels! Maybe both mixed together? :O

I'm awesom with PSP keyboard anyway, I can type my name (Aodhan) in about 10 seconds or less.

EDIT: And I think you can buy PSP keyboards anyway, I think you just get a USB cable and connect them.
