"Create and sell your own DLC!" a feature that never made it.

That's right, apparently there was supposed to be a feature that would allow users to sell their levels, and other stuff!
Yet it apparently never made it.

This of course would've highly benefitted awesome creators in general, and such.
Of course there were apparently gonna be some rules about it and stuff.
But nevers seem to have made it.
That would've surely helped some people, but it could've also been a catastrophe , like everyone making everything for sale, nothing free so no one would've been able to play anything w/out having to pay 1st, probably one of the reasons it wasn't implemented.

It probably would have been a disaster. lol I did like the idea of certain creators earning the right to sell their content. It would have been nice incentive for talented creators who no longer play LBP to keep pumping out levels.2009-07-24 07:30:00

I actually remember them talking about this before the release. They had said that it was a possibility, and made it seem like it might happen eventually. Doesn't look like it will though, and that's probably a good thing

But who knows? What would LBP be like with paid user-levels? Maybe more people would have spent more time making awesome levels. Then again, who would be able to afford that many levels?


So yeah.. definitely agree with RangerZero

Mm already make enough DLC for us to get along with (maybe not quite enough Level packs) and I wouldn't want to pay loads for sub standard levels by useless creators!
So I'm pretty glad this one got left out of the finished game

Its funny, I thought that this platform would have already gotten infiltrated with some sort of advertising.

I have already been asked to do a level for an organisation to which I declined for personal reasons. (sorry, not not going to say what). I think when people realise the potentential audience, money will be getting involed at some stage.

Get ready to see some product placement in levels coming soon.

The product placement has already started but whether they're getting paid for it or not I don't know.

brainman??? something or other has a level out called 'trolley race' and it advertises 'TESCO'. It even hes their name as the level icon.

Why anyone would want to do this if they aren't getting paid or don't have a vested interest of some sort I don't know. Infact I hope he is getting paid because I'd hate to think they or any other company were getting FREE advertising.

I could do with starting something like that myself having been out of work for about 14 months because at my age there aren't many jobs available at all.

I wonder how much you could have sold your levels for?

How about every level you play costs one penny from your PSN Account? With thousands of plays you could make some decent money. And it wouldn't cost very much at all to play others either. I mean one dollar for a hundred levels? That would probably last me 2 weeks. Could encourage more good levels too.

On the other side... the advertising of levels in LBP comments, forums, etc, would be RABID.

I think this feature would have been a distaster. And it wouldn't even be sharing your levels if that did happen. You'd be SELLING them for some cash. And that takes away the "share" aspect from the game. Plus it probably would have been abused. People probably would have made REALLY bad levels and sold em' for around ?15.2009-07-24 17:08:00
