more advanced elevator help

I am creating a warehouse for my stuff and it is 5 floors. i think i read once on how to make an elevator that stops on every floor but apparently i forgot, stoopid brane. anyway, what i want is to have one swith that you grab to go up one floor at a time and when i grab it the fifth time it goes back dawn to level one. i wouldnt mind havin a recall button on it to get it to come down if i fall of either. i spent all last night up til 6 am trying to stay from bein frustrated. i just couldn't make it work.
i kno you guys kno how to or are at least good enough to figure it out. and i need help keepin from yelling at my tv and having my girlfriend make fun of me lol.

My idea won't make it so that the elevator goes back down when it reaches the top, but it will get it to stop at each floor.

If you have a elevator on a piston, you could put a button or grab switch set on "one shot". When this switch is activated, it emits a piece of dissolve (make sure it's lifetime is set to infinite) with two magnetic keys on it, one key is attached to the dissolve (to destroy it) the other magnetic key activates a magnetic switch, this switch turns on the elevator (Connect the magnetic switch wire to the piston and set it on the on mode, not direction.) When you reach a certain floor, a magnetic key on that floor could activate a magnetic switch that you could put on your elevator, when this switch is activated, it activates another emitter, the emitted object from this emitter destroys the dissolve with a key switch that is attached to it. (Make sure that this emitted object only lasts for about 1 second.)

If this works, your elevator should stop at every floor with the grab of the switch or the push of the button. Although it will only go up until it reaches the top.

That gets much more complicated then. I'm not sure how to make this off the top of my head, and I'm too busy at the moment to invest a couple of hours into this. You'd better hope rtm swings by this thread, as he is the logic master. The only thing I can think of is to make contradictory pistons where one overpowers the other (which is complicated), and having a master "reset" once it hits the bottom floor (which is also very complicated).

I'm sorry if that seems convoluted, but this is very logic intensive design you are looking for.
