Why Defmunky666???

Archive: 32 posts

Talented creator DefMunkey666(responsible for levels such as Death Rail, Murder Race, Desert Survival1-3) Recently announced on the comments section of his Murder Race level that he would leave LBP for good. Even worse than this, he said he would be taking his levels with him, deleting them from LittleBigPlanet.

Personally, DefMunky is one of my favorite creators next to gevurah22 and geosautus, so I thought this news should be heard and I encourage as many people as possible to play these amazing levels before they're gone.

I just passed by LBW and saw this thread. I think Def comes on LBPC and rather than sending him a PM I thought I'd post this to see if we can get him to change his mind. I love his levels so it would be a shame if he would leave especially if he deletes his awesome levels...

Yeah, he sent me a message on LBP said he was getting tired of LBP, and didn't even want to leave his levels published... something must have really started eating at him, but I know how it can get when you get so involved in this game and reach a point where you're just like "man... I gotta quit playin' this game".

I tried as hard as I could to convince him to leave his stuff up at least, and just take an indefinite break, not a permanent one.

Anybody who's a fan of DefMunky's work, hit him up with a PM and give him some good news. He sent me a new concept turret that he was working on, and it was ridiculously awesome...

is it in any way related to all the desert survival clones that have popped up? I certainly wouldn't like to lose this talented creator D:2009-07-24 05:06:00

Well, he hasn't stopped by lbpc for about a month, so I'm guessing he's not coming back . It's sad, though. He'll be missed, I'm sure.2009-07-24 05:35:00

Yeah, he said he was "over LBP" so he wasn't gonna play it anymore...
I almost reached such point, reason why i'm taking a break of LBP atm.

Don't try to force him back, it'll only make it worse...
Maybe convince him to leave his levels up at most, but that's it.

If you force someone to play when they don't want to, well, its just wrong for starters, but it also makes them dislike the game rather than just not wanting to play it, and if there was a chance of him returning you'd just be closing that door.
So its better to just let him go people.

Its always sad when great creators decide to leave, something must have got him bad, like Ninja said, for him to remove his levels to.2009-07-24 09:30:00

Yeah, its a shame but as Silverleon said - it'd make things worse to make him to stay. Maybe one day he'll return and create something amazing!2009-07-24 10:02:00

Just talked to him, andhe's not coming back anymore, no matter what.
His mind's made up and he seriously doesn't want to return.
I'll keep the reasons a secret as he didn't specify if he wanted it to stay a secret or not.

So its useless to try to convince him anymore.
He's gone from LBP completely...
(Oh yeah, and it is for sure he's taking his levels down as well)

That's a great shame. I've enjoyed a lot of his work, and rated him highly as a creator.

I hope he knows that he had the respect of a lot of people and, regardless of the reasons he might have for walking away, he's given a lot of pleasure and fun to a lot of people.

well it IS a shame, but be sure to convey our well wishes in his other endeavors. Good luck to you Defmunky666... even though you're probably never going to see this thread 2009-07-24 11:07:00

Not all that familiar with his work but it is a shame when a talented creator leaves the community. Hope that whatever caused him to quit isn`t too serious and he gets it sorted, even if he doesn`t return in the end.2009-07-24 21:39:00

Why so serious with his levels??

Nobody can copy them, he's not making money with them and even if it's a case that he's tired of people with their comments and stuff, he won't be back to see them.

This leaves the " I quit with my levels" thing as only "senseless egoism".

I think it's the equivalent of burning bridges... like throwing pictures of your ex girlfriend in the shredder and finally putting it behind you, or throwing away all your old dealer's phone numbers.

Wow... another one of the greats, vanishing off of the face of LittleBIGPlanet...

For good.

Well, let's all wish for the best... cuz it sure sounds like he'll need it.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHY?!? I loved the desert survival challenges, they were the best bomb survival challenges ever to exist on LBP!!!!!!!!!!! But why do you have to delete the levels!!!!!!!!! 2009-07-25 15:49:00

I'd say Murder Race was his best level, he took racing to the next level. It's obvious he has spent a lot of time on his levels, if he HAS to go I really hope he leaves them published at least.2009-07-25 17:29:00

Noooo, not DefMunky!

I'm thinking of filming all his levels, and making a sort of good-bye video

Yeah, like postig 50 angry faces is gonna make him change his mind.

And as i said before, he IS gonna leave and delete everything no matter what, so it is pretty much useless to get upset for it, since there's nothing that can be done about it.

Thanks for the sentiment guys. I honestly had no idea I had this many fans. I always saw myself as kind of an obscure creator and only held a couple of my levels in high regard.

That being said, if I wasn't so headstrong this may have convinced me to stay. I've reconsidered deleting my levels. That hasty decision was made in the heat of the moment and I apologise for mucking people around. I'll try to atleast finish my partially completed levels and publish them for the fans, b ut other than that this is the picture wrap on ole' Def.

Thank you for your support.

Well, if he really wants to leave, he should leave. But he should keep his published levels (or give them to someone else ... somehow) so others may learn how to make good levels.2009-07-27 03:51:00

Hey Defmunky, I played a two of your levels after I read this thread and have to say they were both very impressive. Murder Race was extremely fun and is in my top three favorite race levels and Desert Survival 3 is easily the best and most innovative bomb survival that I have played.

Glad you decided to not delete your levels after all as well.

Kudos to you, Def. Pieces of "LittleBIG" history are now where they rightfully are: on prominent display for everyone to enjoy. Thank you for re-considering, and best wishes for you outside of LittleBIGPlanet.

Thanks a lot for replying DefMunky666 and thanks even more for leaving your levels published. It would've been a real shame for anyone to have missed these masterpieces. It saddens me that you have to go but I don't think there's anything I or anyone else can do about it so I guess all I can say is I really hope everything goes well for you in RL . Goodbye, I hope you will return some day.2009-07-28 01:39:00

thats funny, Ninja! I recall a similar instance in my life, but mine was selling all my old turntables / dj music equipment when I decided to quit the rave/club scene...anyway on a more serious note, any great creator would be missed if they decided to focus their energies on something else...makes you kinda wish there was a secret way to retrieve / retain these levels, objects, etc...

anyway...(forgot to chk pg 2)...after reading ahead in the thread, I thanked you Defmunky666 for your final post, and the levels you've decided to keep published...

When I first saw this thread, I went to play some of your levels, and your Bomb survival challenge levels are by far the best ones I've played, and thanks for deciding to not delete your levels. And when you do leave, I'm sure the LBP community will miss you.

He told me its because of the spam, and quite frankly I don't blame him. He gets 20+ messages a day telling him his levels suck, and he regrets making ds1 copyable. People actually started thinking HE STOLE DS1. And people are demanding he make all his levels copyable so they can play them even when he leaves. All the noobs and ingrates who just like good levels and don't understand the hard work taht go into them are the reason he's leaving. And copycat levels like desert storm and sniperA4x's levels only make it worse. it's sad 2009-08-11 03:11:00

Cool Levels are being taken over by Bomb Survivals.
Soon "Can you beat this level?" levels will take over soon.

But my favourite level of his is Murder Race, sadly I'm the last one to cross.

He definetly is a great creator, I wish he would have made Murder Race 2 before he left. If he did leave because of spam, I think he should have ignored it and have thick skin.2009-08-11 03:31:00
