Signature Image Limit?

Archive: 15 posts

Hmm... I don't understand why the max of images is 1.
And a smiley counts as an image..

Shouldn't the max be 3 (meaning no smilies)... images?
Smilies don't count.

It ensures that the length of your signature is suitable and doesn't lag the forum, which goes in hand with the maximum size of the image used in your signature. As with the emoticons, I never knew they counted as images, and if so it should be counted seperately with a limit of maybe three or four emoticons. Smiley spam is seriously annoying.2009-07-23 20:32:00

I think there has to be a balance regarding signatures.

On the one hand, it's nice to have the option of having a sig. But three? You have to remember that the site may suffer from a bit of slowdown and possible bandwidth problems if everyone's sig limit was trebled.

You've got the use of the gallery for posting multiple images, which can include signatures

Agreed, though does a signature with an animated gif image in it have the same slowdown/bandwidth effect? Just wondering, could be completely wrong.

Well the only thing that lags is you and your internet.
Not us, depends on your browser. Especially Chrome, loads fast.

Anyways, when I mean 3, I mean like 3 non-gif signatures... especially if you're going to advertise somthing.

Example of Smiley Spam:

Yes, definitely. It slows the load of the site for others, especially when lots of people have large sigs. That's why the limit is where it's at - we want a fair balance of personalization and usability.

That's precisely what I mean - wouldn't it be better to cater for everyone, regardless of whether they had a slowish modem or a 100meg pipe?

I hear what you say, and I don't want to bore everyone, but the sig is there as a nicety - everyone being allowed three seems a bit excessive.

Just a suggestion.

I really don't agree with that in this case. Why should some people have to wait just so others can have flashy signatures? It's not fair and nonsensical.

3 reasons:

1. Impossible.
2. It'll kill the quality.
3. It's dumb.

How is it impossible and how will it kill the quality?

Photoshop will only reduce the quality if you choose too, i assume most other programs do the same
