yeah i remember watching this video before the game came out, its a good concept that they should have just kept in since they already had it done.2009-07-23 18:09:00

I know it was the developer's favorite danger... I guess it may have been too glitchy.

Maybe it'll be in Creator Pack 2...? <_>

Or maybe in the next "big" pack...

I think problems arose when ice was used in an area that was as small as sackboy himself. He would freeze, and the ice would expand his body, causing problems in confined areas. Too bad, though, it looks really fun 2009-07-23 19:20:00

Actually i think the problem was that when sackboy unfroze while standing on the ice he'd hit the ice and get frozen again straight away

oh, i know how they can fix this!
What if the sackboy can't unfreeze until its out of the ice part, BUT it can pop while frozen in case its in a closed area!
Wha't do you think?

That would be a lot better

Then it'd work the same as the fire hazard though only with an annoying pause as you get frozen

Another thing to note from that video is that instead of a single thermometer, it has all of the individual ones, not just the most filled one.2009-07-23 21:07:00

i think they thought that that was too complicated so they took it out and put in the one big one, though i agree it would be way better to have the individual ones2009-07-23 21:09:00

They probably figured it's not "user-friendly", considering their target market. It fits with the theme much more, and it just looks better. There have been a lot of changes since that build of the game though. For example, touching hazards in Create Mode does kill you now, the scoreboard has a whole new set of animations, the pause menu comes down differently and has different options, to get to Play Mode you don't have to go to a "My Levels" page anymore, etc.

I think a good solution would be that if you're frozen for more than 5 seconds you'd die....

... right? :O

Five seconds seems like way too long in my opinion. Count out a full five seconds and hopefully you'll see what I mean. Maybe three seconds, maximum. But these are the type of problems MediaMolecule had, I remember Alex Evans saying in an interview that they took out ice because it was too unbalanced.

Bringing back ice is a thing that has been suggested many times already, but still, I guess it's sorta cool, but unbalanced too. Maybe if they worked on it a bit again.2009-07-23 21:58:00

How was it unbalanced?
If it was becuase you had to have a sixas or w/e its name is, control then you could have to tap X.

How what other reasons?

They should make it similar to the fire hazard

Touch it slightly and you'll get half frozen, which slows your movement down until you hit unfrozen ground.

Then if you jump on it fully or touch the ice again while half frozen then you get frozen fully and it shatters.

That way it's like a half way point between the fire and electricity hazards.
Ice is slightly less forgiving than fire because it gives you less of a chance to escape if you only get half frozen.
_______

Orrrrr another idea

Have it so sackboy can walk on ice normally but he slowly turns white and moves slower until he turns completly white and shatters.
I can think of a few problems with that though, with things like jumping to avoid getting frozen completly.

Remember, that they hear the fans doesn't make it instantly possible to make anything they ask for.
(Not to mention everyone's always asking for hundreads of things every day...)

I know, I know.
But Ice is already done, and has a cool gameplay mechanic.
And water is really difficult to do (basically it should be a fluid material that adapts to dynamic volumes (hard stuff), but it would be cool.

that problem could be fixed with a tweekable freeze time or "temperture"

An unfreeze zone. An, if not moving unfreeze rule. Time of shaking controller to unfreeze, I think that you originally unfroze by shaking the controller?

When I was obsessing over LBP to get it I saw this and I have to say was one of the things I was looking forward to. An ice block launcher would be pretty fun hazard.

Yes, you can see this in a lot of old videos and screenshots. It's actually shown in a picture on the back of the gamebox (PAL version at least).

I just checked my US box, you're absolutely right. The middle picture catering to the "Create" part of "Play, Create, Share" showcases that multi-thermometer layout.

They most likely did it so that people could test their obstacles at any section of their level more easily. Also, crushing your friend under a giant stone block is a riot.

Id love the option to toggle between the two. would make optimising levels a whole loot easier.

Great idea. The code has to be in there as well, or else the thermometer we see wouldn't know which one was the closest to full. It could be as simple as a new menu option.

I'd like the option to have a look at the seperate thermos to, like an Advanced Mode or something. You would'nt need it all the time, just like Wex's though, it would be enormously helpful when optimizing to squeeze a little more space out of it.2009-07-29 21:58:00
