Isn't ramp awesome?

Archive: 50 posts

...No it isn't.
I have a question for you all.
HOW DID THIS STUPID PLACE GET POPULAR?
it's not anymore, but I am just curious.

Exactly. This is the dream level for the types of players who do h4h and don't take LBP very seriously.2009-07-23 16:34:00

We've all played it, probably hit restart a couple times to see what it was all about. We are guilty of feeding to its 2 million+ plays, and in turn it's popularity.2009-07-23 16:38:00

A product of when LBP didn't recycle new Cool Levels after every week.

See, the cool levels were ones with a lot of hearts/ plays until earlier this year, no matter how old they were. this, in turn, basically meant that the levels on cool levels were levels that already were high ranking. Thus, only levels from the beginning had any real chance of actually getting on Cool Levels. since people play what is on Cool Levels, they pretty much were stuck there. Levels like this and Ghostbusters and Back to the Future were all on Cool Levels for so long because there was NO WAY for them to get off, really. However, Azure Palace was on there for quite a while seeing as how that was the first really awesome level... But yeah, Ramp developed one million plays due not only to the newbs, but also MM's TERRIBLE Cool Levels system way back when. Now it keeps racking up plays because everyone knows about it, so they play it to see what it's all about.

I actually think Ramp is alright. Nothing that good, outstanding or heartworthy, but I don't think it's THAT bad and the creator did an slightly nice effort with it, they just should of connected the rocket to the skateboard. And, the creator doesn't "suck" for making it as many of the level's comments say.

I don't think it deserves to be as popular as it is (or it was) but it's probably just little kids who rate it high because it gives them a cheap laugh that made it famous.

You know... my 7-year-old son TAUNTS me with statements like "I love ramp" and "Ramp wouldn't have so many hearts if it wasn't so good!".

and I reply:

"No... ramp is so popular because of snotty nosed little brats like you giving it attention!"

I then spank him and force him to practice the piano.

Wow, best huh? Well then, let me point you towards a level which you will truly enjoy: check out "Cat vs Jaguar". It's slightly better. At least the vehicles' rockets stay attached and they don't flip wildly.

Ah, been there, played that...Nothing can stand in Ramp's way, it's just way too awesome. Maybe the creator of that level's awesome enough to join this site as well

Nah not really. I entered, exited immediately, and curled up into a ball since I was so disturbed by how crap it was.

There's a lot of really young kids playing LittleBigPlanet... in fact, probably more than teens and adults, and those children are easily amused by simple things that don't kill them, and think a level that requires thought or skill is bad.

So, a FANTASTIC difficult level could potentially be 3 stars because virtually ALL the young kids give it a 1 star, and virtually ALL the adults give it a 5...

I've been advocating on this site since December that LittleBigPlanet have some kind of a difficulty and genre system to keep the little kids away from adult-level games, and allow adults to not look at the kid-level games.

On day 1 ramp was there. And everyone knew there was a skate board. So everyone knew they where going to build a ramp for it. He was lucky enough to have the first ramp level published. If you where around on day one and you first went on the cool levels page and saw RAMP you had to try it. I think it was one of the first user levels i played just from the name.
I know it sucks
but hey its the first ramp
so its sweet
and the fact that it sucks so much makes it better.

Well Anyways, the only skateboard levels i would like are ones with mechanical parts and complex machinery, not just a ramp with a jump and rockets. It would be nice to have elevators, spring boards, and CREATIVE BACKGROUNDS AND GRAPHICS! NOT JUST PLAIN WOOD AND DARK MATTER!

He likely just jumped right into create mode and made that for laughs. That said, it's not completely horrible considering the creator likely had no idea what he was doing.2009-07-23 19:23:00

Yeah, though I would also like to have the skateboard rotate on its long axis so that you can do heelflips and kickflips. Maybe they could do something like in Tony Hawk's Project 8 and have the board be controlled using the sticks. That would make any ramp level worth it

PLAY MY TRIBUTE RAMP 2

I was just coming in here to tell people to play Ramp 2. Voltiare and Jaeyden love it... I love it. You will too.

Anyway... yeah. Ramp was there one day 1... the only good levels around were Azure Palace and World of Color. Back then, ANYTHING was good, and anything with the word ninja or trophy in it was guaranteed to get plays.

Come to think of it... I think that might have been how I got all my create themed trophies in 1 week, because I had 6 levels published and my name had the word ninja in it Awesome.

Oh yeah... ramp. So yeah, it was like this see... the rocket powered skateboard would never work right the first 3 or 4 times you played, but skateboards and rockets were like mind blowing stuff back then. If a level got stuck on the page that first week, it didn't leave until sometime in December (or was it January?).

There was no cycle, no change out... just Ramp, World of Color, Azure Palace, Mirror's Edge, some crappy Ghostbusters and Batman levels, Ninja Warrior training 1 & 2, 7 trophies in 20 seconds, and stuff like that. Stuff like Little Big Matrix and Little Big Phantasy started creeping in. Those were the days. Everyone that ever owned LBP in '08 played Ramp at least 3 times. Also, it had points... lots of points for no reason, and points were awesome.

I never did get False Idols I, II, and Alien Escape to stick that first month... but I did get 4 stars and a few hundred plays on a level I had called Death Kab where you drove a rocket powered wooden big wheel with suspension and pointy wheels into a line of giant flamingos and impact bombs.

I remember finding deboerdave's dark matter tutorial and being like "wow" 'cause I had no clue about dark matter those first two weeks.

I agree. Totally.

Wood + Skateboard + Lots of other skateboards = pure platforming brilliance.

No but seriously, why are bratty little kids attracted to this pile of clumsy ****? I played it, quit and left it with two stars (I felt one was too harsh...), but I see others leaving comments such as "cool h4h" which really bugs me. First off, they called the pile of clumsy **** "cool", secondly, they hearted it, and finally, they want to be hearted by the creator of this clumsy pile of ****! Why?!

Im pretty sure this level only became popular because it was one of the first levels published in the beta, so all the kiddies fell in love with it because they didnt know how to make levels on their own.2009-07-23 21:33:00

Yes it is awesome!

After playing tributes of it, reading the comments on the level, and reading what people say about it here, I have decided to tell the truth. I think Ramp is the greatest. Rather than make another level in tribute, I will express what I feel toward it here. Ramp is obviously a work of art and really should be treated as such. This is why I have analyzed it and have decided to share with you my analysis which is this: all of the upside-down skateboards at the beginning of the level symbolize the chaos in the artist's life. The Ramp represents the thrill he is seeking. The lack of design and holes in the level show that he is not complete while the multiple paths in the level show the journey isn't easy. However, once the long and trying journey down that ramp, past the holes, and into the promised land is complete, the various score bubbles show that if you are willing to make sacrifices, you will be rewarded. This is my tribute to the greatest level of all time, Ramp.

The thing about 'Ramp' is it's failure is it's success. The fact that there is a skateboard and a stonking big drop makes you want to go down it. But the more you fail, the more you want to see what happens, thus, replay counts go wayyyy up.

I also love how virtually any tag on 'Search Tag's' will bring up 'ramp' XD

The reason it got popular was because... rockets and skateboards were kewl back then. Back then, a level with a decent rocket was enough to win hearts over. It was the first level to feature actual gameplay. You grab the board, and you fly off a... well... ramp. Straight to the point, and "original". It started the never-ending conquest to create better levels. Back then, ramp was the "Dinosaur Island" of it's time. Everyone has played it (I use to have the #1 highscore on that... but that was when I had my other account...), even the new people since they've heard about it from other people. My only explanation is that... it appeared first.2009-07-25 06:38:00

I agree. There are MUCH better levels out there that are way better than Ramp could ever hope to be. It gets so many plays because of the title, that's what I think. Little 10 year olds look at it and are like "Wow, a ramp! Maybe it will make me go super high!". That's only what I think though.2009-07-26 21:14:00

i built a ramp level in beta.
i called it "banana wagon rocket lobster"
it had a chopper motorcycle made out of a banana (with a banana seat, of course)
attached to the banana was a trailer with a flamingo on it.
however, my ramp and vehicle worked properly and there were many (dark matter admittedly) platforms that the banana or the wagon could land on, leaving the other of the two dangling below until the platform ended and roles were reversed. x2 recommended lol.
this was just made for giggles by a friend and myself, and was removed not long after.

I found a MGS styled ramp LOL!

"skate board ramp extreme ver 2.8"

its the same thing, skateboard, going down a ramp, but no rocket.. Still like ramp.

And instead of the small skateboards there small floaty sackpeople..

And instead of rockets paintgun and jetpack.

Then it comes to a small jump, going into the wood material ramp used, ramp al over again xD.

Then your ment to get in this kart thing that pulls you up but you cant even reach the kart LOL!
