Armorboy Battle Arena (2P VS & Co-Op)

Howdy y'all.

As some of you might know from my other thread, I'm currently working on an Armorboy revision. Smaller and more advanced than the original ones, these mecha were designed to help make more complex levels while offering a better possibility for co-op play. I'm in the process of creating the Battle Center that focuses on 2P fun, granted 1P can still enjoy the level.

Right now, the versus section is something I would like to get working properly. Winning 2 out of 3 rounds against your human opponent will net you the victory, etc. Hopefully this won't turn out like other versus stages as you are fighting in mecha with a decent amount of health versus swinging around a "lightsaber" for the one hit kill.

Co-op, depending on how much thermo I have left, will be a timed event where you (and possibly your partner) take on a giant super mecha and beat it as fast as possible. It'll be interesting to see how this goes.

Anyway, just so you have an understanding of the level mechanics...

Co-op would look a little something like this...

But the game features these little guys...

If you have any ideas or suggestions, please let me know. =)

Thanks guys. After testing it at Comic-con with a bunch of people, I was pretty surprised at how fast they caught onto the controls. I do have to revamp the entire map to avoid a ton of glitches that were created with the exploding parts, but... needless to say everyone who tried it really liked the mechas. =)

Cross fingers I can get this out by next week so I can start on the single player epic. (Think Metroid, stackable powerups, etc.) ^^

Really looking forward to this but please concentrate on 1P please.

I really hate 2P deathmatch type levels or Battle arenas , mainly because my connection is just horrendous and as long as the online create beta is going on I can't play levels with other players at all as it's just way too laggy and the connection keeps breaking down.

1P is the only option for me

i love all of your levels....and armorboy was my favorite...and when i saw this youtube video of the new small ones man my heart skipped a beat...i friggin love those robots

the only question i have is if you will ever create a tutorial level to create these little guys and if i can somehow contribute to help you out in whatever you need...sheesh these armorboys are awesome...here's hoping you can make more soon...2 of them are fine but imagine a roster of like 10 of them...then you could make color counterparts of them too here's hoping you finish sometime soon....hope this thread isn't dead yet and you still come here to read this

Thanks man. Now that I'm done with the Comic-con level and with the testing of the Armorboys that was done @ Comic-con with different people, I'm ready to really kick this into high gear.

The versus is probably going to be left on the back burner for a bit considering there are a lot of things that came up during the testing. The Armorboys themselves worked flawlessly and the show-goers loved using them, but the points system used to track the kills didn't always register.

The focus is now on the single player/co-op. I have a couple of ideas that should help lower the thermo a bit more, but due to the complexity of the Armorboys, it's going to be tough. That's why I kinda just limited it to two. Not only does it really add a bit much to the thermo already, the gameplay will be too all over the place with more than two. I just want to make it clear and effective for the players so that they can shoot and maneuver well enough.

I've also come up with some other strategies take care of some niggles with the overall control, but I'll probably implement that in future iterations.

Time to cross fingers and hope this doesn't take too long to release. =)

As for the tutorial, that'll come in due time. I'm working on something that'll hopefully get a little more mass appeal for that.

awesome cant wait for the tutorial

also maybe some tips to help with the thermo

the more materials you use...the more thermo is taken
emitters are thermo killers...
decorations can take up some too (heard gargoyle in history pack takes 2 bars in thermo)

ill think of more later

lol yes it will be....i think that it'll be so big that gevurah you should probably draw out some cool ID for armorboy pilots so the sig exchange team here in LBPC can make IDs for all the armorboy pilots (fans) of your game haha...just a thought but it kinda would sound cool to have an organization based on armorboy....mine will be my own shintimit lol and some of you others can be part of the earth federation that i know automatically exists lol2009-08-16 05:58:00

In order to accommodate the grand size of the co-op/single player, I've had to cut out the "switching" ability on the Armorboy loader. The thermo gets way crazy when I create two Armorboy loaders so I'll just have to simplify the process.

But I like the I.D. thingy you mentioned. Sounds like something that's worthy of earning after passing this training level. ^^

yeah lol and if people brought proof of earning their ID in game then we could find someone who could make an official ID for the armorboy pilots...it would be cool to strut around in these forums with our armorboy ID as the signature...making everyone wonder how our cool IDs come from and we'd tell them about your levels

another cool idea i had was after the tutorial level being posted to have our IDs have our main armorboy in there as well..so people can know what type of armorboy we are piloting hehe
