*noob questions* title screen and progress counter help

Archive: 8 posts

Okay I'm building a level and need some help.

Im wanting it to be a generic how far can u go thing and was wondering how i get it to display how far you get. On some levels ive noticed it will say at the end "you reached platform 10" or whatever and i have no idea how to program it to do that.

Also i have a sort of title screen to drop down and display the name of the level. I have it set to drop in by way of winches and set to a sensor so when player is in range it drops but i want it to stay down and not go back up. As soon as the player leaves the radius it goes back up. I just think it would look better if it stayed down instead of going up and down.

Thanks for the help... any questions on clarification just ask

To answer your second question, you'll want to use a permanent switch.

Just create one square block of dark matter (preferably) and one square block of dissolve on top of the dark matter (of course this should be off screen.)

Put the magnetic key on the dissolve, and the key switch on the dark matter, have the radius big enough so the key is inside the radius.

Now attach the switch to the winches, and change the settings from "On/Off" to "Directional"

If you see the logo come down, then you will have to invert the magnetic key so it basically reverses the logo and brings it back up top.

Now take your sensor switch, change it to a "One-Switch" setting, and attack it to the dissolve.

What will happen is, since the magnetic key is in the switch's radius, the logo will always stay at the top until sackboy enters the sensor switch radius.

So basically, the sensor switch will dissolve the block holding the key, thus causing the switch to bring the logo down permanently.

Yup, I hope I explained it as simple as possible.

For your first question, though this may be a bit thermo-heavy...

This will all be off-screen, and at the end.

You can have it so you have x amount of blocks, each block resembles a stage you passed, everytime you pass a stage, the block disappears and the next one falls down (they would be stacked on top of each other Platform 1 being at the bottom.

Once you fail, you are brought to the end, whichever block is at the bottom of the pile, will fall down to show you what stage you made it to or died on.

Of course, this is just off the top of my head and now that I think about it, it doesn't seem as thermo-heavy (my first idea was to use emitters, but this seems better)

Never tried it before, you can try and see what happens (if you understood me...)

thats not a "noob" question, newb like newbie would be less insulting. newb is ignorant so once u told the person they know now. a noob u can tell them something in the intro, during gameplay, from a friend and in the instruction booklet, but yet still the person would get mad cause they didnt kno. aka stupid
to answer ur first question tho, im not a great creator but maybe a player tracker with a key and the switches attachet to whatever, if im understanding u right. when u get it figured out post ur level, i'd like to play it

ya for sure I'll post it. This is going to be more of a fun level then an WHOAAAAA THAT LOOKS AWESOOOMEE. Don't expect it to be that flashy. I just want it to have a competitive score board... One of my staples in my levels are secret areas that aren't easy to find.

I made one level (which sucks because it was awesome then randomly everything unglued and i just patched it up and put it out). It's very difficult... even the secret area takes a lot of luck and skill. Although very few have played it only one person has successfully finished... It's called Temple of Timing... DOn't judge me based on this level... Like i said earlier it is simply a patch job on a complete collapse of the level

No problem. Try to refrain from double posting though, there is an "Edit" button under each of your posts, use that next time.

Don't worry about that and your welcome.
