magic mouth madness

Alright So I have a HUGE project coming along that is pretty much steam-punk and the adventure game Myst rolled into one.

There is A LOT of dialogue in the level. My biggest problem seems to be the most simple but unless I can solve it then I can't get anything done.

Pretty much I need help making basic cutscene dialogue. My first idea had a piston moving up a track with mag switches connected to the box. problem is that it only lasts about 4 seconds before half of the stupid MM decided to stop working. I need for them to LAST as long as possible so that people can read everything considering this is an adventure game like level people need to be able to pick out details and I need to make sure they have the time to do so.

Any suggestions? I'm thinking of using emitters but I have about less than a quarter thermo left AND I'm only halfway done

I'm not sure that I follow exactly...but have you looked at the "talking tool" item/tutorial level by maraz (sp?). You basically hook up a sensor to trigger a block of dissolve which drops/moves an item with a magnetic key past 8 magnetic key switches, if you hook them up to magnetic mouths it will give the player a chance to read them in sequence. He's got a couple of versions, the piston version will allow the player to re-read the items.2009-07-20 21:33:00

I think this is your problem though:

If the magic mouth is activated out of the cameras visual range, it will dissapear. In order to make it work properly, you need to set it up so that the magic mouth camera moves within range before activating, or make several different proximity switch triggers, so the mouths aren't triggered prematurely.

That doesn't give me a lot of room to work with I plan on using some cutscene cameras as well and that doesn't sound plausible unless they are very short shots.

It is kinda hard to work with the magic mouths for cutscenes =/ If you want to see some real masterful work, check out Johnee's Future Warzone 2 trailer, or Wexfordian's Media Molecules next level pack levels. Its all in the timing, frankly.2009-07-21 06:12:00
