VR Castle Defence (Survival Challenge)

VR Castle Defence (Survival Challenge)MDJR2k7
This is my first survival challenge. The object of the game is to protect your "castle wall" by blocking incoming paintballs with your body. I scrapped and completely re-did this level about three times, so this is the longest time I have ever spent on a level. This level was inspired by many other levels but I tried to keep it as original as possible. Have fun!

This idea to me seemed original while keeping it simple. I enjoyed it!
But the first thing that needs fixing is the lack of music. Music really brings a level to life.

The level could also do with a tad more detail to make it more interesting to the eye. I tested it in one player, seems to work pretty well!

I gave it :star::star::star::star: because I know it deserves that if it has some nice music to accompany it. Good work.

Thank you for the kind words. I will update it with some music and visual features. Once again, thank you.

EDIT : Added music!

Well, i decided to give this level a go.
It was a neat concept, but it just didn't look good.
For one, you need to give it a more of a "VR" feel. It's not THAT hard, just replace the current material with some VR material. Also lift up the whole entire level a bit, so you can't see the blank floor.
It also took me a while to figure out how to start the game. I died the first time I tried flipping the switch. I suggest having a button attached to a permanent switch, which is connected to everything that makes the game go. Just...don't use custom switches, unless they work really well.
When you lose, you don't die immediately. This is an easy fix. Just have a giant block of gas connected to a piston kill you.
Some more/easier to collect points would be nice, too.
It's a cool idea, you just need better graphics and a bit better execution. I didn't play this after you added music, so I won't say anything about music. But you need sound effects.

Pro:
*Interesting concept
*Fairly well executed

Con:
*Didn't look too great
*Didn't die immediately
*Custom switches aren't recommended
*No/Bad intstructions
*Too short

Rating:
Visuals - 5/10
Sound - 6/10
Gameplay - 8/10
Overall -6/10

Thank you for the feedback. I will get right on those changes you recommended.

EDIT: Put gas instead of plasma and made it more VR like.

I tried playing this earlier today, but I couldn't think of how to get it to start

The switch wouldn't work and all that D:

Sorry to hear that... You need to tug that switch pretty hard.

If possible could somebody make me a better working custom switch? It would be very appreciated.

This would be a really fun multiplayer level!
Good programming and use of the technical aspects of LBP.

One problem was that the point bubbles got in the way of the shots (and I used this to my advantage ) however when I died, I had not collected the points. I think that it would be better if the emitter for the point bubbles went to the same area as the level finish. :star::star::star::star:

Good idea! Thanks I will implement that as soon as I can.

Really fun survival challenge! It's simple, but is well executed. I played about 5 times and got third place! The visuals weren't great, but they weren't bad either. My only real complaint is I didn't see much of a difference in hard mode (I'm sure if when I placed the sticker it worked, because it never made a sound), although that is very minor.

Overall I gave it:star::star::star::star: and tagged it "fun"

Also thanks for the feedback on my level.

I just played your level and must say it is fun and has a unique concept. I played the level three times. The first time around I was really bad. The second time I got the hang of it and thought, oh this is easy actually. Then I tried hard mode. I'm glad you added hardmode because firstly it gives the level replay value and secondly it makes it more challenging. My only suggestion would be that it dosent look like much of a castle If you know what I mean. It's just a wall. That's not a major problem though.

For F4F play and give feedback for my new level linked in my sig

I made it just a wall to add to the "virtual reality" feel. It's supposed to be just a training wall. Anywho... Thanks for the kind words I will check out your level soon!

It's pretty cool. I think you should make your own turret that shoots the paintball rather than just a big red block though..2009-07-24 04:45:00
