O_o *Need some answers for my podcast!* o_O

Archive: 18 posts

I'm starting a littlepigplanet podcast!
I REALLY NEED SOME HELP! Answer the questions you want.

1. Should I really make one when my levels are GARBAGE?
2. What should the name be?
3. What sound editing software?
4. Video podcast? Or Audio?

Whoever's answers I use WILL be acknowledged on the website and probably on air.

EDIT! Sorry for bringing this back, but I am starting my podcast, and this is for suggestions and questions until further notice.

3. The only one I know of is Audacity!

4. I'M thinking that an audio podcast would be more portable, and personally, I think I don't look that good....

These are some of MY choices, but PLEASE GIVE ME YOUR INPUT!!!!!!

As to question 1...

I don't think that level building skill is a real prerequisite. In order to do a podcast you have to be able to converse well, manage effects nicely etc, but noone says you have to advertise your own levels. Unless the cast is supposed to be about "how to make levels" i wouldnt think your skills should matter.

As to the other questions, you may wish to ask the folks at www.sackcast.com, they may be able to help you more than i can.

and you don't need to adknowledge my answers, i'm trying to help, not get on the airwaves

I think you need to give us a little bit more on information on your podcast.
What exactly are you including in your podcasting? LBP News? Other Communtiy Levels? Ways to create Levels? Discuission of improvments? Interviews with other communtiy members?

Like Burnvictim42 said, you don't have to be good at making levels, just be able to understand the LBP community, where it's going, what people are doing, what's "in" and what's "out", and stuff.
From my personal experiance, crtics might be able to spot a good and a bad film, but they are not able to make one (a good film that is, I somtimes feel like shouting at them "YOU THINK YOU'RE SO GOOD!? TRY MAKING YOU'RE OWN LOW BUDGET FILM YOU BUNCH OF MAGGETS!!!!!"). But if you ARE making a podcast on making levels, theres somthing to consider. But then again we need more information to help you.

Number 2, the name for you're podcast, like a LBP level, should be catchy and to the point. You really only have mere secounds to grab the attention of your audiance espiccally if you're still a newbie. The name should reflect your self, the actural podcast, and also appeal to the audiance.
So with does in mind here are some examples: LBP Politics, The know hows of Sackboy!, LittlebigPodcast (is this taken? lol), Level Mania! The little the big, and the pod cast..... or somthing like, just ideas to get you started. I personally havn't listened to any LBP podcasts so i can't say which names are taken and which arn't.... but i'm guessing Sackcast is already taken

Also a answer for number 3, You can try using Protools if you're really into Audio Engineering and want to make cool sounds, make your voice sound better, and so on.
Protools is a very powerful tool, and could really enhance your podcasts. Like adding in music to the background, changing you're vocies to set atmosphere (creepy, deep tone for scary stuff, example "Behold! The Sack People OF DEAAAAAAAATH!"), adding in sound effects to make somthing sound funnier or more dramatic and a whole lot more.

If you're doing video work, then Avid is a great, amazing editing software... but can be a bit pricey. If you're looking at short clips though, After Effects should be more than enough to enhance and edit you're videos, (you can make it like MM's Tips videos ) http://www.avid.com/products/professional-film-video.asp

As for Question 4, like you said, audio podcasts are more portable, and will appeal to a larger audiance because of it's small file capasaty. People with 7GB MP3s (like me) and a 256kbps internet connection (like me) don't really have the time or space to be downloading megas and megas of video footage .
Also most people i know listen to podcasts on their iphone while on the bus or train, or download them onto their ipods and mp3s to listen to them on the way to work or university.
But then again, if you have a strong subscriber number on video hosting websites, (like youtube) or you have a large fan base on you're own website, people will enjoy a video podcast more.

Errr. i think thats all i can say for now (I also don't need acknowledgement, just like to help).... good luck making you're podcast!

We (SackCast) use skype to hold our calls and one of our members (Dan AKA Trickster) records it, in Logic Pro I think.

However, if you are doing a podcast by yourself, or with someone who is in the same room as you, Garageband is great because it's very easy to use. There's even a podcast preset.

However, if you don't have a mac, and only a PC, I think Audacity is probably the easiest choice and supposedly works well. I've never really used it though.
Also, unless you have video editing skills, you probably wouldn't want to go for video. Audio also takes less time.

There are already at least two podcasts for LBP, one being LittleBigPodcast, the other being SackCast, which I'm part of. But if you want to go ahead and make your own, go for it.2009-07-20 16:20:00

It probobly won't be that good at first, but I was REALLY inspired by the likes of littlebigpodcast and sackcast. I have no intentions to top or even compete with sackcast or LBpodcast. At this moment, me and two friends are going to be in the same room, with one computer, so that may take skype out of the options. At this moment i'm going to use Kristal, so we can use 3 mics.
The type of podcast? News, level reviews, and maybe other stuff as we roll along.
Thanks for all the positive and negative feedback! It was really appreciated!
You guys can still give me feedback at this point.

I'm trying to round everyone up in one place, one time, and with all the schedules, this is proving to be a problem.2009-07-21 21:16:00

Well the beauty of media is that not everyone has to be in one spot at the same time. You don't have to record everyone on the same day. If you have a script, or a list of stuff you are going to talk about, then you can split it up into diffrent sections and record on diffrent days.2009-07-23 03:29:00

Go for it

Only thing I would say is you're walking straight into what Littlebigpodcast did which is using an abbreviation of an already established thing:

LBP - littlebigplanet or Littlebigpodcast

LBW - littlebigworkshop or Littlebig World

Yours you can get away with since, for LBPC at least, we don't use LBW in conversation.

Yeah, LBW is almost a taboo these days.
But hey, good luck with everything. If you need help or anything just ask us at Sackcast! Yay!

Podcasts involve commitment, but seeing as you're doing it with friends, I'm sure you'll do pretty well for yourself.

Anyway, good luck!

So I'm done with the prep, I just need to wait a week for my friend to get back from the Big Apple. I now have an email for the podcast, it is "itsalittlebigworld@gmail.com". This is the last post unless anyone has suggestions or questions. Thanks again to Sackcast for inspiring me and everyone for suggestions. So if my friend doesn't cooperate, it will be a lonely, one-person podcast. But again. Thank you all!2009-08-04 21:37:00
