My 3D Sackboy + Paintinator
Archive: 20 posts
Hi everyone, I've been working on some 3D sackboys. Let me know what ya think! Thanks. P.S: Thanks SOOO very very much to CNP for helping with the creation process! 3D Sackboy Finished: http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/littlebiggallery/images/4248/large/4_bettersackcagelower.jpg CLICK HERE TO SEE OLDER VERSION (http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/littlebiggallery/images/4248/large/1_sackboycustom.jpg) 3D Sackboy holding Sackcast logo: http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/littlebiggallery/images/4248/large/1_sackcast.jpg http://image.wetpaint.com/image/3/mJvLI7FuuL058zdWlRf3WQ496890 http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/littlebiggallery/images/4248/large/1_Paintinator.jpg Wireframes: http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/littlebiggallery/images/4248/large/1_wireframe.jpg http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/littlebiggallery/images/4248/large/1_wirepaint.jpg | 2009-07-19 00:23:00 Author: DanC Posts: 433 |
aha that's really good, nice work | 2009-07-19 00:29:00 Author: Unknown User |
It's very good, but it's eyes don't reflect any light, so they look like black holes, and it's sort of creepy. I feel like I'm staring at a Sackboy who had a very rough childhood. The texture needs depth to it as well. I shouldn't be so critical though, I can't do anything that is remotely that cool looking. Great job. | 2009-07-19 00:33:00 Author: BSprague Posts: 2325 |
Hehe, thanks for the feedback. Strangely enough, those are the exact two things I'm working on at the moment. I have a friend who is making an attempt at fixing up a nice, smooth texture for the model and also I'm going to add some reflection to the eyes. | 2009-07-19 00:36:00 Author: DanC Posts: 433 |
OMG, thats awsome! I've been looking for a 3D file for ages and couldn't find one! What are you using? 3DSM? Whoa - that looks a bit like Blender. I love 3D work and this looks a really crisp render. One thing, can you add a displacement map? Just add another layers (B/W inverted of the original texture) and add displacement - either that or bump map. The eyes I think are down the lighting (only one light?) so if you add another from front left (lower down) it should get rid of this problem. I think your next development work should be to reduce the poly's and increase the mesh to get the memory down. Also, you could do with adding a mouth?? (not the line). I can do rendering, lighting, posing, texturing and compositing but not modelling! Love it. Rhy EDIT ______________ don't know if I should be so cheeky, but if *ahem* you feel like giving a version to a good home :S I'd love an .obj and UV map!! - Nah forget it - that is too cheeky! I'm using 3DS Max for the design and vRay for rendering. I'm working on a new material for sackboy to make him look more... friendly. Also working on the eye reflection - going to add another light. I'm going to do another design of him when I get home (on vacation) which gives me more rendering power. I have so many poly's because there is a lot of smoothing going on there. And yeah, the mouth, going to use some boolean tools to cut a shape into his head. Once I've finished the whole thing, I'll let you know about getting an .obj file. | 2009-07-19 00:46:00 Author: DanC Posts: 433 |
You may find that with a deep displacement map, you don't need to smooth it as much. I wish I had 3DSmax - just can't afford it and wouldn't know what to do with it if i got it! XD I use DAZ3D and 3Delight for rendering - a very poor substitute.. | 2009-07-19 00:54:00 Author: Rhyfelwr Posts: 606 |
Ok, just made an updated version with a nicer sackboy sackcage, sack.. thing. Now all that is left is stitches. http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/littlebiggallery/images/4248/large/4_bettersackcagelower.jpg | 2009-07-19 03:43:00 Author: DanC Posts: 433 |
That's cool. Now make a costume for him. | 2009-07-19 13:04:00 Author: BasketSnake Posts: 2391 |
I threw in a paintinator.. http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/littlebiggallery/images/4248/large/1_Paintinator.jpg | 2009-07-21 04:30:00 Author: DanC Posts: 433 |

LOL that's hilarious I wonder if LBP will look like that if the ""oh so called" first person view will ever come. nice work! | 2009-07-22 20:38:00 Author: oldage Posts: 2824 |
Very clever - like this a lot!!! Rhy Any luck with the boolean tools on the mouth or a displacement map? | 2009-07-23 19:06:00 Author: Rhyfelwr Posts: 606 |
That looks awesome. I have no idea what language you and Rhy are speaking but it sounds impressive anyway. | 2009-07-24 01:20:00 Author: mistervista Posts: 2210 |
Did the boolean tools and posted the pic above, it isn't very wide so its hard to see but its there. I might stick a light in his mouth to bring it out more. Working on the maps. | 2009-07-24 02:03:00 Author: DanC Posts: 433 |
Dan its what i did and it worked fine Rendering with bump map now! | 2009-07-30 23:08:00 Author: CreateNPlay Posts: 1266 |
Ooh, 3d people. You should try Blender Rhy, it's part of the opensource project, and is said to be the best of the free products. It really doesn't cost much for a student's license for 3ds or Maya though, as long as you're still in high school or college. I used to be into 3ds... until I started Maya. I love it, but it's really mostly preference - you should try Maya as well, they have a month long trial of '09 on Autodesk's website, assuming it's still there. As mentioned, I'm a Maya guy myself. How long have you two been learning 3d? Nice work on your Sackboy model. | 2009-07-31 04:18:00 Author: Shredator Posts: 151 |

How long have you two been learning 3d? Nice work on your Sackboy model. I did try blender about 6 months ago, but found the UI really hard to get on with and the tutorials aren't brilliant. I really have to get back into it. I'm more of a texturer, composition, final render kind of guy. Modelling is hard work! For the most part, I use DAZ Studio as my freebie, which churns out some pretty good renders (3delight render engine), but is limited with import/export functions - presumably so you have to buy the models/poser models. Haven't seen or tried Maya but heard a lot of talk - I'll have to give that a try (seeing as I use AutoCAD LT on almost a daily basis!) Looking forward to seeing the new sackboy with bump map - that should be cool. Can't really tell how you've done the mouth yet - you're right - doesn't stand out much. Ok here ya go, Bump map on main tex maxed out (200%) lol.. first time i made one but yeh. http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s249/wracc2/sackdone.jpg | 2009-07-31 12:59:00 Author: CreateNPlay Posts: 1266 |
Sweet! That's 200%??? Try increasing the contrast in the bump map tex - but I'm not sure it needs more. I can see the mouth now which, apart from being a bit thin, (maybe add a subserv to round it off) looks much better. Really nice work! | 2009-07-31 13:03:00 Author: Rhyfelwr Posts: 606 |
