For those who are interested, here is my second level in the OH NO!!! THE PRINCESS!!! series. I'm not actually as fond of it as I was of the Grass Land level, but there are a few bits I'm proud of.

Enjoy!

OH NO!!! THE PRINCESS!!! World 3: Ocean Side is coming along nicely.

I had the pleasure of being play number 1, and also heart number 1. (Both were at 0 when I started)

I liked the intro, nicely detailed as always, though maybe throwing some stickers onto the sandpaper floor would spice it up a little bit. Maybe using the "cracks" or hieroglyphs or just anything to make it look less plain. The king's second speech bubble is censored, you might want to check that out and fix that. All of the platforming and general gameplay was well done, bubbles were placed in a way that made slight combos possible. Flow was pretty uniform, there was one part where I had to wait for an enemy to come over to me so I could kill it, because the ceiling was low, but that didn't really detract from the overall experience. This one was a lot harder than the first one, but I liked the difficulty bump. The bouncy pad sections were fun, though sometimes you aren't sure where you will end up. A zoomed out camera would have helped here. The king was just as sarcastic and lovable as ever, and I actually laughed when the camera zoomed in on his face at "WHO KNOWS?". The movement pattern of the sun in the Sun Temple was very well done, a smooth, nearly random motion. The lighting change was cinematic, and the music change went along nicely. I would have liked a checkpoint after each sun, they were very hard, but that isn't really a necessary change, that's just me being bad at timing. The room with the switch, I believe it was the fourth one, was annoying because I didn't see the switch the first time and couldn't go back to get it. Maybe a light over it would make it more noticeable. I found that whole section unmercifully hard, but it is great if you like a challenge. The dinosaur's tomb section had great timing and platforming sections. I would have liked more checkpoints here, because after you accomplish a really hard section, only to die at the next one and have to do them both again, is really frustrating. I liked that the giant wheel made a comeback, though it did seem tedious to kill. Overall, I really liked the level, and though it probably sounded like I complained a lot in this "feedback" I give this level :star::star::star::star::star: because I had fun playing it.

Censored?! I wonder what on earth was censored... I'll go check it out. Thanks!

EDIT: The speech bubble should read "I can only imagine my daughter's discomfort in this sweltering heat. Go get her!" Is there some accidental swear word hidden in there?

It's probably either "discomfort" or "sweltering". There may be some foreign curse word in there somewhere. If you figure it out let us know because there's a thread for odd censored words.

Also, I'm pretty excited to play this, but it'll have to wait until tonight.

Edit: Here's that thread - Odd Censored LBP Words (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=t=6932&highlight=censored+words)

Edit2: It's "sweltering." Apparently "tering" is a bad word.

..Of course. "Tering." How silly of me not to catch that.

I'll edit it out, I suppose. Thanks!

EDIT: I republished the level with no "sweltering" and after adding a few more checkpoints. I'd been considering adding checkpoints between each sun anyway.

EDIT AGAIN: I republished it again; the switches in the Sun Tower are now more obvious thanks to some lighting.

This level is the reason Mm made infinite life checkpoints.
I'm not just saying that because I died a lot, though I did die a LOT. Boy did I ever die a lot. But what was great about this level was no matter how many times I died it was never so many that I wanted to stop trying and do something easier. I had a blast playing this level! I was disapointed that your enemies were the same as in the previous instalment, but other than that everything was awesome. The Sun temple was a really cool, original idea, and I liked this boss a lot better than the first. Loved the happy floating rock at the end!

The King saying "WHO KNOWS?" was the greatest moment in LBP history.

For F4F, Count Snickerdoodle's return.

just played this. It may not be your favorite but it still has the charm of your different view on the Super Mario story. Only problem i had was the camera angles acted a little funky when i was scaling the cliff on those bouncy platforms. A very low high score- Woot!2009-07-18 20:54:00

Wow, thank god for infinite checkpoints! I died so often...but it didn't get frustrating at any point. The launched pads were tweaked very well and were quite fun to bounce around on. Honestly, I preferred the platforming of the first one better, but the Sun temple mini-bosses were awesome. I know it's been done before, but I still think they are wicked fun. You got 5 stars from me.2009-07-18 21:57:00

Yea - more platforming goodness

I have to say - you stick to what your good at. Lush lighting and great humor along with downright hard platforming. Just so happens I love all three of those things! The square/block design works well for this level again. Classic looking but very fun to play.

I gave it 5 stars & hearted it. Thanks for sharing it (and for not making me wait terribly long for parrt 2!)

Lemme tell you something: Either you're very good at making levels, or I'm a glutton for punishment at heart. I died so much, I was afraid the infinite life checkpoint was about to run out and kick me to my pod for failing so much. I did enjoy the humour in the level, though. Just don't ask me how many F-bombs I dropped playing this level, cos I don't even know... All in all a great job, I four or five star'd it, I don't remember which.2009-07-20 20:51:00

mmm... this is based on Super Mario Bros. 3?

Somewhat. I would say "inspired by" before I said "based on."

Yay! I got the highscore! I was amazed by the creativity in your level. The sun part was really cool and well done. Your OH NO!!! THE PRINCESS!!! series are pretty close but still very different from the Mario Bros. games and this is now and definitely your signature, no doubt! ***** and a lovely heart for you my friend! 2009-07-21 19:30:00

Another awesome level... just like the first, but bigger, better, and more difficult, the way a world 2 should be. It took all the desert themes from that one game and put a tight spin on it...

5 stars, perfect gameplay, rock solid design. Keep this going. I want all 8 worlds.

Oh! Great level!
I find it really funny, and a lot better than part 1 in each part, story, visuals, gameplay...
I swear a lot in the sun chambers, since you choose to give players just one second more to walk through the chambers.

Anyway, I can't wait to see what happens in the water level.

Please...let me kill the king by the end of the story, give it a tragic ending

I loved the first and wondered if the second one could live up to it... and man, did it ever! The visuals were solid throughout and the platforming, while difficult, was very satisfying. There were moments where I felt that it was bit too difficult and some of the tight corridors frustrated me a bit, but the use of infinite checkpoints mad it bearable and I pushed through!

Great level that will really appeal to the hardcore platformers! Bring on Ocean Side!

Wow. I rarely say this, but thank you Mm for infinite life checkpoints! This level was A LOT harder then the first one in the series, and I died countless times, but that aside, this is a worthy sequel!

The platforming was brilliant. Again it was simple, retro 2D platforming that gave me good memories of the earlier Mario games. The sun temple was just genius, and I can't guess how the mechanics worked so well. The enemies were the same as the ones in the first level, but you used em' still just as well. I like the ways you use materials in your levels. You don't put much detail into the levels, but the creative use of the materials more than made up for that.

Overall, :star::star::star::star::star: and a heart. Please continue with this brilliant level series!

I love both of these, pure platforming, and nicely done. Some of the sections are really tricky but never frustrating, thats pretty hard to pull off so kudos on that count! The 2D Mario influence is never far away, but the fact you get those comparisons is testament to the design, its so focused. Great stuff!2009-07-29 18:40:00

Thanks for all the kindness, folks... I've been absent lately because I'm in the middle of moving, but in what little spare time I have I've been working on Ocean Side, so it should be published soon!2009-07-30 08:33:00

Dude! We both made it to the spotlight! :hero:

And whoa, you're already going to publish ocean side? You sure are fast, to say the least!

In fact, I thought that I had already posted a message on this thread, but, oh my, when I discovered that I hadn't. I skipped it because when I saw that it was releasd, I ran to the PS3, and forgot your thread for evermore.
'Till now.

I've gotta say that the only flaw that I found on this level, was the humour. It's simply, that I laughed more at the 1rst one. That's it. For the rest, I enjoyed as much as a kid would enjoy candyheaven.

Wich was definetely a PRO for me was the difficulty. You might have noticed, but I do love challenging things. And this was, by far challenging. As many pople has already said, I couldn'thave made it without the infinite lives checkpoints; so be sure to keep those in the incoming levels!

What I also liked was the way that the Sun moved. It seemed kind of random, but after a good while of observing, I was able to kind of predict his moves, altough there were some times when I thought that I knew what path it was gonna follow, and then "Boom!" it changed in no time. So, my question is; is his moving random or you can predict it?

Ah, besides, what I thought that was easier than the first level, was the final machine/boss. I guess it was simply because of it's shape; you were able to climb onto it, wich made you capable of dodging those plasma balls at the bottom.
If you ever feel like tunning up the difficulty on there, I would reccomend you to add the same plasma ball sistem at the very top of the machine, so the player has to watch his feet on there too.

I really can't wait for the 3rd part! You said that there are going to be 8 worlds? I can't wait for those! I wanna fight the dinosaur king right now!

As for the F4F, I'll save it, and when I feel mean enough, I'll tell you where to leave it.

Thanks for the outstanding level!

Just replayed level 1 (played it before but with some other people, so wanted to solo it and heart that). And :star::star::star::star::star: For both Oh, and a heart for both you and the levels. I love the Mario likeness, and, uh... the Sun Temple was cool, the dialogue was awesome, it was NES-style challenging... very nice 2009-07-31 23:34:00
