Experimenting with signatures and avatars....

Archive: 19 posts

So, I want to make some.

Any good tutorials I can use for PHOTOSHOP CS3? Now, I am talking about GOOD TUTORIALS. Not just one you Google'd. I need to learn the basics. I know how to crop, remove backgrounds, all that stuff. I need to learn how to use the brushes and make effects and such though.

So, anybody got some good ones?

You need to know how to set layer properties and how to use the burn and light tool and you're good to go.2008-09-07 09:09:00

I've done quite a few things in Photoshop (CS2, not sure if you saw the stuff in my thread), and I've never used a tutorial.

To be honest with you, there's no better way to learn how to use Photoshop than experimenting.
Tutorials only give you a one-way path to a certain design/effect, but if you find out how to make a cool effect, the things you can do with said effect are more versatile, since you should understand what all the different buttons do.

I would just experiment with different things... that's how I learned to use GIMP.2008-09-07 16:16:00

I disagree, a few months of tutorials and you'll be able to do whatever you want eventualy. I think pslover.com gives good tutorials... they USED to but I think they've gone way downhill since I last used them.

I agree with ScytheOfGrim. I learned by playing with the options and creating random stuff. The LittleBigChallenges are good way to learn stuff. It will give you a subject to work with.

As for a tutorial. If you're not completely comfortable with cropping and some of the basics then this might not help, but the author had me cracking up.

That's another thing; it's also based around personal taste.
If you're looking for something very specific, and aren't the most patient of people, then tutorials are probably for you.
But if you really don't have a clear idea as to what it is you want to do, or what effect you want to get, then just mess about with the buttons. >_<

Both have their advantages...
In the end, it's all about putting the time and effort into the program.

It's too busy for my tastes, and the colors don't go together very well... :/

Yeah, sorry Guitar, but so far I'm not a fan. I think the last one will appeal to some, but it's not my style.2008-09-14 03:15:00
