Oh yeah, forgot about that one. That was a great movie, great book too. At 2 hours and 45 minutes, it definitely isn't a movie for people with short intention spans. | 2009-07-17 21:03:00 Author: BSprague Posts: 2325 |
^^ Huh? Only 2 hrs. 45 min.? Hmm, I thought it was 3... very long movie nonetheless. Everyone except me fell asleep at one point in time watching it. | 2009-07-17 21:16:00 Author: Outlaw-Jack Posts: 5757 |

Wow.. I have issues remembering 10 movies. Nah.. just limiting to a 10 ten is pretty darn hard. I will go with the ones I seem to replay quite a few times as well as some new recent favorites. In no particular order Star Wars Star Trek Casino Royale (2006) Fifth Element Stargate The Day the Earth Stood Still (either version!) The Dark Knight Lord of the Rings Saving Private Ryan Forbidden Planet alternates that could easily replace some of the above depending on what day you asked.... Matrix Life of Brian Ed Wood Holy Grail Pulp Fiction Roadie Chicken Run Wallace and Grommit I guess I have more of a top 18 list!! | 2009-07-17 23:11:00 Author: jwwphotos Posts: 11383 |

There's just too many great movies for a top 10 list!!! | 2009-07-21 17:49:00 Author: jwwphotos Posts: 11383 |
The Cook, The Thief, His Wife & Her Lover Saucy! lol There's plenty more that I regard equally to these, but off the top of my head.. Alien Audition (1999) Dawn of the Dead (1978) Sunshine War if the Worlds (2005) Zombie Flesh Eaters Lord of the Rings Trilogy Star Wars Trilogy (IV - VI) Signs 2001 A Space Odyssey I've not seen Moon yet (Can't wait!), but reckon that might replace one of those. | 2009-07-21 18:08:00 Author: Kiminski Posts: 545 |
I dont have one that i like most, but heres ten that make the list... Hot Fuzz Cars The Italian Job(original...not the remake) All the Back to the Future Films Waynes World 2 Transformers The Naked Gun The World in not enough Shaun of the Dead Grand Torino Like them all for diffrent reasons...When i First seen Grand Torino, i thought it would be about the car, the 'Ford Grand Torino', but its got Clint Eastwood in it, and a Grand Torino! | 2009-07-21 18:09:00 Author: Calster17 Posts: 48 |
The Cook, The Thief, His Wife & Her Lover Blade Runner Wow I didn't think anyone else saw The Cook, The Thief, His Wife & Her Lover, crazy movie from what I remember. Good choice with Blade Runner. My List: Old Boy Perfume: The Story of a Murderer No Country for Old Men Frenzy 3-Iron Dogville Hard Candy Sunset Boulevard Rocky American Beauty | 2009-07-21 18:26:00 Author: Walter-Kovacs Posts: 542 |
Yes - it's a strange but interesting movie. I actually scoured the internet years ago to find it on DVD. Helen Mirren is lovely in that one and if you start looking at all the metaphors and symbolism it's a pretty deep movie. | 2009-07-21 18:51:00 Author: Morgana25 Posts: 5983 |
Morgana! You forgot Ghostbusters! How could you! | 2009-07-21 19:10:00 Author: Coxy224 Posts: 2645 |
I love it - true - I only got 10 slots though and as influential as Ghostbusters is in my life - I had to prioritize.... although it's one of the few I can quote verbatim at will. | 2009-07-21 19:34:00 Author: Morgana25 Posts: 5983 |
guys... i want to know something :O Some movies have something like a director's cut version. What does it exactly mean? And wich version do i watch? D: sorry for offtopic'ness btw. i'm gonna post my top 10 soon... maybe | 2009-07-22 17:24:00 Author: Yarbone Posts: 3036 |
Director's cut is a version of the film usually re-cut by the director as he wants it without worrying about length or anything the studio wanted (in general) It can include new scenes or just a rearrange of scenes from the original. It's all up to the director. Good example is the Directors cut of Blade Runner. I prefer the Director's cut over the original. | 2009-07-22 17:42:00 Author: Morgana25 Posts: 5983 |
Top fifty would have been fairer! Mine were ones that I could remember. Good call with The Cook, The Thief... Morgana! That film is underrated, and probably remembered more for its saucy bits than the cruel, sadistic actions of the main protagonist. Kudos too to my mate Kiminski for mentioning Zombie Flesh Eaters. Not sure whether it's my favourite zombie film, but it's a lot better than the 'Scream' pap of today! After flipping through my DVD/Blu-rays, I'm amending my list to include: Dark City Bladerunner (Director's Cut) Schindler's List Leon THX1131 (And about 40 others!) | 2009-07-22 20:57:00 Author: MrsSpookyBuz Posts: 1492 |
Leon How could I forget The Professional? | 2009-07-23 03:59:00 Author: Unknown User |
1) Avalon (what a movie guys!!!, what a movie!) 2) Requiem for a dream 3) Donnie Darko 4) Fight Club 5) The Godfather 6) Lord of the Rings (trilogy) 7) Eternal Sunshine of a spotless mind 8) Memento (Nolan) 9) OldBoy 10) Citizen Kane EDIT: Good, Leon is known here ! It is a french movie (directed by Luc Besson, a french guy), and i didn't really know it was known on the other side of the atlantic! It is not in my list, but it is definitely a good movie, even more the director cut (extended version). | 2009-07-23 09:07:00 Author: Takelow Posts: 1355 |
Leon's actually got quite a cult following... anybody into John Woo flicks, or stuff like Shoot 'Em Up reveres that movie for being the golden standard. If you like that kind of stuff (and Old Boy... good flick), definitely check out this one I mentioned - http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/c/cf/Ghost_Dog_poster.jpg/200px-Ghost_Dog_poster.jpg ...not quite as avant garde as Leon, but very profound, stylish, smooth, and slick. | 2009-07-23 09:26:00 Author: Unknown User |
Ok, Ninja, i will take a look to this movie! Btw, yeah, i loved a lot OldBoy and, in a more general manner, all the Park Chan Wook movies (JSA, Sympathy for Mr Vengeance, Lady Vengeance, I am a cyborg, Cut....). | 2009-07-23 09:29:00 Author: Takelow Posts: 1355 |

I'm going to blow everyone's minds and make my own 10 list of favorite movies (NOT A TOP TEN! JUST A TEN!), and then I'm going to make a second ten list of my favorite top-10 lists in this thread. In no particular order please. A few favorite movies: Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind Brazil The Fountain Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb Titanic The Great Dictator Blue Velvet Princess Mononoke Half Nelson Amadeus A top 10 list of top-10-lists: MrSuperComputer - We Reagan babies got to stick together. Actually I'm only assuming you're a Reagan baby by your list. Supersickie: Bonus points for listing Godfather 2 and not 1. That's what I would do. We godfather twosies got to stick together! Wexfordian - I like your list, but you get a hearty slap for The Notebook. A HEARTY SLAP! But then again, you had the balls to list it. You know what, screw it, just because you listed The Notebook, I'm replacing T2 on my list with Titanic. We chick-flickers got to stick together! MrsSpookyBuz: I hope you don't mind, but I nudged The Green Mile off your list in my mind's eye and replaced it with Dark City or Schindler's List. We big fans of both Dark City and Schindler's List, we're a rare breed, we got to stick together! miltonTPS: Wow, Blow, nearly forgot all about that one. Interesting list, Airplane AND A Clockwork Orange? What are you, a deranged lunatic?? Man, we deranged lunatics though, we gots to stick 2gether! Morgana: True Lies, well I'll be ****ed! Points to you for James Cameron's oft-forgotten comedy. We troo liars, we gts 2 stick 2gthr. kiminski: Where zombies and scifi intersect. But I have to ask... Signs?? I don't know man... Signs?? I love your list's bookends. Alien on one end, 2001 on the other. Man, us alien 2001 zombies blah blah stick gether. walter-kovacs: Getting a little obscure there, aren't you? 3-Iron? Frenzy? I mean, in all of Hitchcock's ouvre, who lists Frenzy? I'd start to think you were blatantly anti-social, but you threw Rocky in there. Man, us inwardly antisocial whatever, we gotta... uuh... takelow: Requiem for a Dream and Donnie Darko, eh? I'll let it slide THIS TIME!! MAN, US STICK TOGETHERS GOT TO GETHER STICKS I'm back. Definitely not a definitive list, but it's a start. Great, now I have to squeeze you into my top ten list of top ten lists. would you believe it though, I still haven't seen Fire Walk With Me. I've been waiting until I finish Season 2, but my god it gets HARD TO WATCH halfway through. Not David Lynch, Inland Empire hard to watch either. Ridiculously stupid, don't care about anything that's happening hard to watch. I think I just gotta power through it at some point. Wow, Eternal Sunshine is popping up on a lot of lists! I'm thrilled to see that, it's me own favorite movie. | 2009-08-21 20:30:00 Author: Teebonesy Posts: 1937 |

would you believe it though, I still haven't seen Fire Walk With Me. I've been waiting until I finish Season 2, but my god it gets HARD TO WATCH halfway through. Not David Lynch, Inland Empire hard to watch either. Ridiculously stupid, don't care about anything that's happening hard to watch. I think I just gotta power through it at some point. I know!! But as painful as INLAND EMPIRE is to watch, I sometimes wish that Twin Peaks Season 2 would be challenging and bold like that film, rather than degenerating into pointless, idiotic soap opera and "comedy" plotlines. Still, it is worth persevering for the brilliance that is the final, David Lynch directed finale (episode 29). And of course for the film, which just blows my mind every time I watch it. It may even be my all time favourite Lynch film. Wow, Eternal Sunshine is popping up on a lot of lists! I'm thrilled to see that, it's me own favorite movie. It really is an incredible movie! But there is always space on my list for either a Michel Gondry film or a Charlie Kaufman screenplay. Honourable mentions would include Be Kind Rewind (HUGELY UNDERRATED, although I absolutely did not like it at all the first time I watched it) and I suspect Synecdoche, New York will make it onto this list when I eventually see it...it sounds incredible! | 2009-08-22 01:52:00 Author: CheesyMcFly Posts: 211 |
my god ive barely heard of any of these movies :0 But you should add titanic and Pearl Harbor to the list, they're classic! | 2009-08-22 02:15:00 Author: Incinerator22 Posts: 3251 |
Still, it is worth persevering for the brilliance that is the final, David Lynch directed finale (episode 29). And of course for the film, which just blows my mind every time I watch it. It may even be my all time favourite Lynch film. I know! I've heard the final episode of Season 2 is incredible! And I think it was the first episode, or maybe the first 2 episodes of season 2? I'm not sure which, but there was an absolutely amazing episode David Lynch did. The one with the record playing in the living room. the stain on the carpet. Ghosts in the walls. The man is a genius. It's a testament to how botched the mid-season is that i haven't stuck with it, even with such brilliance right around the corner. But I've since loaned it out in exchange for Twilight Zone, and now I can't watch if it I wanted to! Your words I think did it though, as soon as I get those DVDs back I'm going to plunge right into the deep-end. Bulldoze my way through Nadine as a super-powered high school cheerleader and get to the goods. I've done a lot of talking on these boards about Synecdoche, New York, particularly with supersickie. I've seen it 3 times now, I guess? It was not the movie I expected. But for me time has been very kind to this movie. This is the film that, long ago, was rumored as a Charlie Kaufman-Spike Jonze "horror movie" collaboration. Spike ended up taking on Wild Things and Charlie Kaufman decided to make his directing debut with this project that started off as a "horror" film - not a genre horror, but a movie about genuinely scary things. So, in spite of the trailer which might have you believe it's a magical, but sad little drama-comedy, it's better you be properly forewarned - this is an unpleasant, bleak, at times incredibly depressing piece of work. with little moments of that loveliness and magic. But for the most part it's a prolonged nightmare of life gone wrong. Your worst fears coming true. What I love about the movie is the point of view. It's told from inside the protagonist's mind, it has a dream logic and a delirious surrealistic tone that often combines unimaginable heartbreak with strange dreamlike humor. It's a unique cocktail that's proven to be way too difficult to digest for many people. I myself am quite mixed on the movie. I love the interior style of the storytelling. I'm not the biggest fan of the prolonged endurance match of total bleakness, and the more truthful the movie is, the more it hurts to watch. It's Kaufman's own "Science of Sleep" in the fashion that it's Kaufman unleashed and unfiltered. It's like both of these filmmakers went off to do their own thing, and each of them made a movie with a profoundly personal vision that some have suggested was specifically made for himself. Makes you realize how much of a lightning strike Eternal Sunshine was. It was exactly the right story, written by the right guy, directed by the right guy, in which both of their sensibilities melded in a once-in-a-lifetime alchemy. EVERYTHING clicked in that movie. It may be that neither Kaufman nor Gondry will ever top it. | 2009-08-22 02:26:00 Author: Teebonesy Posts: 1937 |
Beautifully said Teebonesy. In fact it may have been your previous comments on this site about the film that led me to suspect I will love it when I eventually see it. And indeed everything you write here about it just confirms that suspicion more and more. I really do hope you manage to persevere with Twin Peaks, believe me there are parts still to come that will break down your resolve and will make you question your desire to continue. DON'T GIVE UP! There are actually some really incredible episodes in the second season, but I suspect you might have already passed them and only have the finale to look forward to. Episode 14 (the killer is revealed) and Episode 16 (the aftermath) in particular are among the very best episodes in the series, and even approach what was acheived with the Pilot (the most I think about it, the more I believe that it actually is the greatest film made by David Lynch) and the perfect first season. PS SORRY TO EVERYONE FOR THOROUGHLY DERAILING THIS THREAD! | 2009-08-22 02:43:00 Author: CheesyMcFly Posts: 211 |
Bottle Rocket Conan The Barbarian Jurassic Park Jaws Jason and the Argonauts The Princess Bride The Dark Crystal Silence of the Lambs Unforgiven Sexy Beast Not my top ten i'm sure, cause i've never really tried to rate them like that. (this list doesn't even include kung fu films!) Just a list of 10 great films I didn't catch anyone else mentioning. Lol, If I had included already mentioned films I likely would have had nothing new to ad to this forum! And talking about good movies is too good an opportunity to pass up. Hmm. . . I now feel the need to list off a few good animated films. . . all the Miyazaki films- Spirited Away, Howls Moving Castle, Princess Mononoke. . . instant classics. And The Flight of Dragons- A made for TV Animated Film based on a book by the same name, featuring the voice of James Earl Jones as the evil wizard Omadon. | 2009-08-22 04:54:00 Author: squirlin Posts: 224 |
... Unforgiven ... Hmm. . Unforgiven's a great Western, though not my favorite genre... I have an old friend who would KISS you for listing Unforgiven. I believe it's his single all-time favorite movie. And Myazaki, I agree. He's got the Midas touch. I'm beginning to believe he can do no wrong. He certainly has some movies that are stronger than others, but he has a knack for hitting this magical childlike dream tone in his movies that never fails to totally transport me. I saw Ponyo and loved it so much, I went home and instantly watched Spirited Away again, one of my favorite movies. As soon as the ghosts begin to appear in the streets of the little "town" at dusk, he has me right by the balls, and there is no way, under any circumstances, you could peel my eyes off the screen. | 2009-08-22 09:47:00 Author: Teebonesy Posts: 1937 |

V for Vendetta is PAINFULLY underrated, and Pan's Labyrinth is magical Remember, remember the fifth of November, the Gunpowder Treason, and plot... I couldn't agree with you more. V for Vendetta was an incredibly well written movie, and the dialogue was carved with memorable quotes: "V: Voil?! In view, a humble vaudevillian veteran, cast vicariously as both victim and villain by the vicissitudes of Fate. This visage, no mere veneer of vanity, is a vestige of the vox populi, now vacant, vanished. However, this valorous visitation of a by-gone vexation, stands vivified and has vowed to vanquish these venal and virulent vermin van-guarding vice and vouchsafing the violently vicious and voracious violation of volition. V: The only verdict is vengeance; a vendetta, held as a votive, not in vain, for the value and veracity of such shall one day vindicate the vigilant and the virtuous. V: Verily, this vichyssoise of verbiage veers most verbose, so let me simply add that it's my very good honor to meet you and you may call me V." "It seems strange that my life should end in such a terrible place, but for three years I had roses and apologized to no one." "...artists use lies to tell the truth, while politicians use them to cover the truth up." And the artistic direction of Pan's Labyrinth was mesmerizing, especially the way warm and cool colors separated the worlds of fantasy and reality...perhaps a LittleBigPlanet level can recreate the magic? | 2009-08-31 22:06:00 Author: jeffcu28 Posts: 648 |

Hmmm, hard to point out 10. Especially seeing as if you have a favorite comedy and a favorite say drama it's very hard to compare them because you like them in completely different ways. So I'll try to do a top 5 for Comedies and Drama's. Comedy 5. Superbad 4. Role Models 3. Forgetting Sarah Marshall 2. The Hangover 1. I Love You, Man Drama 5. Ummm, I can't think of anything at the moment that sticks out. 4. The Dark Knight 3. Watchmen 2. Inside Man 1. The Departed Yup. | 2009-09-01 18:50:00 Author: ChristmasJew Posts: 431 |

I'd call the dark knight an action film and Watchmen a crime fiction/action but thats just my opinion I consider mainly anything not to be a comedy to be a Drama. I didn't feel like saying Drama/Action/Crime/Thriller/etc. | 2009-09-02 06:00:00 Author: ChristmasJew Posts: 431 |
