LittleBigTales

Hi! I'm here to tell you about the level I'm working on LittleBigTales!

It's basically a mash-up of fairy tales (think Shrek) and it is the first proper level I have worked on! I have a plan and everything!

I will put my plan in here but I warn you, it's kinda long so I'll put it in spoiler tags:
Checkpoint opens on what seems to be a cloud, next to a story book, has red cover which says ?Fairy Tales? on it. Cover dissolves revealing first page only distinguishable words are; ?Once Upon a Time?? Music calm, with bass emphasis.

Ground dissolves player falls through some trees and lands next to a little house by a stream with a water wheel. Player crosses over bridge, while crossing two eyes appear under the bridge (troll). Player walks on to find a clearing where a girl is crying. ?Oh! Where is my cape?!? She says. Player walks on to see a straw house blocking the way with a wolf next to it and a red cape stuck in a tree, (some sponge with a red bit of canvas on it.) Player climbs trees and grabs cape. Takes it to Red. She thanks player and gives him some bread to give to the Wolf so he can blow the house down.

Player takes bread to wolf and he blows down house. (Dissolve). After house has gone a little pig is in there hiding behind a bed. Player carries on and walks past two other houses, one of wood and one of brick, each has a pig peeking out of the window.

Player walks past sign which says ?Farm? on it and points ahead. Forest ends and player enters a farm. Music becomes more lively and country-like with melody emphasis. A giant beanstalk is blocking the way. It has an arrow pointing up on it. You go inside the beanstalk and it lifts you up. At the top you are back on the clouds inside a castle where you meet Jack. He is scared of the dark but he has a golden egg which an light the way, however he is not strong enough to pull it, seeing as it is gold, so you drag it along to help Jack. At the castle door he thanks you and lets you keep the egg. At the end you see the top of a tower so you go inside it. Inside is Rapunzel, who tells you the only way out is down her hair. You go down her hair in a Zip-wire fashion and land on a set of stairs outside a castle with a single shoe on it. You see the prince who tells you that it belongs to the one he will marry. You drag the shoe to Cinderella who thanks you and tells her birds to carry you away. You grab the bird and fly to a cloud which has the book on it. The Once upon a time page dissolves leaving; ?And they lived happily ever after!? The page dissolves again. Appears a blood red page with the words. ?Or do they??? An evil laugh plays as two birds bring down the leaderboard.

When Sequel is finished, key will fall unlocking the Sequel : ?LittleBigTales: Revenge? Where the villains seek revenge on the good guys, and the player who helped them.

There.

What do you think? Will I run out of thermometer? Should I split into two parts? If so where? Thanks!

BTW after I have done the Villains' sequel I will work on a fairy-tale brook type thing, which shows what happened after LBT:R in the form of a calming boat ride.

About your thermo concerns, I would say to just build as much as you can keeping an eye on the thermo, and then when you think it's getting full (say about 80%) you work on wrapping it up and putting it into a sequel. That's, of course, if you run out of thermo. Well, I would actually almost say to go to about 70% or so that you still have some thermo left to make the level look nice... But that's just a thought of mine. Other then that I'd say this sounds like a very interesting idea and I'll play it for sure when it's done. Good luck.2009-07-15 21:07:00

Thanks for the tip and Luck Wishes
EDIT: BTW, does anyone know which background I should use, and from how high/low?
I was thinking of just using the plain background, but I thought that could be quite hard...

I would probably just use The Gardens, about half way up, so that you see the trees and whatnot, but not like the fence or lawn gnome.2009-07-15 21:28:00

I might actually just use the blank level but change the colour of the fog to blue so it looks like sky.2009-07-15 21:40:00
