What's happened to the Distinguished Users?

Archive: 24 posts

The title of distinguished user seems to have dissapeared. Both Morgana and Ccubbage have lost their red colouring, and the group is no longer at the bottom.
Big conspiracy, me missing something or something more? Anyone know more about this?

Yeah, gone. I know CCubbage didn't like being it since it created a "gap", plus we have quite a few more people who were good enough to be distinguished (I would have said Grantos, personally <_>) but yeah. I guess it served little purpose, created a gap between the DUs and regular users, and they couldn't keep up with who deserved to be distinguished. Besides, many people seem to not notice them and ask them directly for help or whatever, kinda rendering the concept useless.2009-07-15 17:34:00

Quite. I have noticed many new users haven't noticed things that are easy to me- heck, just a few weeks ago, I learned whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaale didn't even know of the active users list! And he's a MOD O_o.

But anyway, it seems many new users, like yourself, don't notice the different colored usernames that differentiate who is different classes. We used to have Elite/ Gold members, but got rid of that due to elitism... this was at least only rewarded to truly good users and not people who bought it, but, um...

Anyway, this babbling reminds me that I want to know if new users get a pm when they register with basic info on the site?

We removed the usergroup because it wasn't doing much good and it created unnecessary barriers between users on the site. Admins and Mods are a different story - there's supposed to be a dividing line, for clarity's sake, so the colored usernames stay for us.2009-07-16 08:04:00

i agree. it did kinda create an unnecessary divide that some people may not like. i didnt mind it, it made me want to get to that rank D: but i can see how some people didnt want it.

the mods/admins thing, i can completely understand, though. all sites kinda need some people making sure everything stays in order and nothing goes out of control XD

A usergroup. Red coloring signified a distinguished member.

That 'Reasoning' is absolutely ridiculous!(flick n swish)

If the coloured title wasn't doing whatever the sites' intentions were... that's fine, but there was absolutely no barrier, physical or inferred, where Cubbage and Morgana were concerned, that is why they deserved the title and others can dream, and I for one am sorry to see it go...

I felt as if It was a cool carrot to dangle that didn't cost anyone a thing, and brought-out the best in people. Anyone who didn't notice coloured titles... ah skip it

However, personally, I know I must have mis-read the post about 'buying' one's hard earned prestige because that just sounds oh so petty and would have expected it coming from the din of "pick-me, pick-me" mod-wannabes.

Title or none, they are what they be... Distinguished. Users.

No. Inactivity is not logging in for a while.

Well said. A user's status on a forum can be denoted by special markings, colorings, etc, but what they do is what actually matters. If they continue to do the work that got them there in the first place, they will be "distinguished users" in the eyes of the forum members anyway.

No. They just had a different colour username because they were helpful.

I used to have a blue name because I bought the ultimate bundle, but they took that away too.

They also took away the privilege (That we bought) to see who repped us. I would have loved to keep these, but it wasn't fair...

(I am a secret mod. Seriously. I can change posts in the level showcase sections! MWAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Ssssshhhhhhh...)

indeed. People will be judged as helpful regardless of their colored name. Thus... well, don't really need to "officially" call them better users, if we can judge it for ourselves...

Ah, good old communism. Everyone is equal, except for the mods who are bit more equal than everybody else of course. o/2009-07-16 18:34:00

i was starting to think of something, it think i might know what went wrong with these "special" per say usergroups.
If you think about it, no 2 "special" usergroups have been thogethere, only 1 at a time, and of course it'd be obvious that if only 1 or 2 memebers are in a special group it mght give a sense of elitism.
Problem 1 - Not enough

If there had been more users with the tag "Distinguished, it could've been more noticable and more for its pourpose, and look less llike a "special" title as many people had it.

Problem 2 - Only one group.

Think about this, if there were many different usergroups with many people in each group, all the groups would feel more of an "equal" state, i don't think there's been more than 1 special group, so anyone in that group semmed like "a chosen one" and stuff, but if there are many different groups with many different users, it might not have such barrier between any of the groups or regular users.
Do you get what i'm saying?
It can work, but its not a 100% thing.

All the time I've been here I never particularly cared whether you were officially distinguished or not. As long as you are nice you are a distinguished user in my book. : )2009-07-16 19:07:00
