Elevators...

Archive: 6 posts

So, for my level (it's getting bigger every day!) I want to have an elevator with a three-way switch that gives the player a choice of going up or going down. Not too hard, but that's not the problem. See, what I want to do is make it so that the elevator breaks if the player chooses to go up and then falls down to the bottom of the shaft. If anyone's played Silent Hill-Tribute, they'll know the concept I'm going for. I had a thought, but I'm not sure if it will work.

I was thinking I could attach the piston to a small block of dissolve and have a magnetic key switch somewhere on the wall of the shaft attached to that, with the other part of the switch on the side of the elevator. When the elevator passed the switch, the dissolve would, well, dissolve and the elevator would fall. But I'm not sure if this is the best way to do it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like a plan to me... Just add some nice sound effects for when the piston breaks and when you hit the floor and it will be poifect 2009-07-15 16:29:00

Cool, thanks. I'll just get to work implementing the idea, then. Unless someone comes up with a better idea, later, that is.2009-07-15 16:36:00

Nope. That's EXACTLY what I would have suggested. 2009-07-15 16:53:00
