Question on the Collector boss (Maybe spoilers)

Archive: 17 posts

When playing the collector boss level, i noticed the first boss uses this system where after the first two brains are knocked out they rotate and two new ones appear. this has given me a idea for my own level, however i don't know how it was done, have tried many different possibilities but all have failed.
does anyone have ideas on how this works? please

Well, forgive my flawed description, but the first two brains are probably part of another "monster". So those two brains are just a random enemy in there with a magnetic key on it.

There is a magnetic key switch set to inverse so that it operates when the monster is gone, and when it's turned on (i.e. the original "monster" was gone) it activates a motor bolt that turns the two final brains out to you.

... At least to my understanding. If you don't understand, I'm sure someone else will say it more clearly, or come up with a better solution.

I'm afraid I understand these things but have no way of explaining them, sorry! Rock's idea sounds like it could work.2009-07-14 22:13:00

And don't forget to attach those mag key switches to an AND switch! ;D

of course, you probably don't know what an and switch is...just explore the website a bit, you'll find out eventually...

I think theres a mag key attatched to the brain. A mag switch thats in range of the key is set to directional and inverted and attached to a wobble bolt. so wen the brain is destroyed, the key is destroyed which activates the wobble bolt. Your gonna need an and switch as crazy mario said so that you have to destroy all the brains before the new ones appear. Hope this helps2009-07-15 11:09:00

I was thinking that theamilien, but wouldn't that require the mag key to be invisible?2009-07-15 11:38:00

My point being MM don't use invisible mag switches. It's how I would do it, but I don't think it's how they did it....2009-07-15 11:47:00

I think they might have hid some of them throughout the game, just to avoid massive amounts of clutter. If you look at the "chest" of the second Collector boss, it has a lot of magnetic keys and switches in it. They didn't hide those because they look cool and they are all neat. Mag keys stuck next to motor bolts probably didn't look that aesthetically pleasing. We have no way of knowing if they are hidden or not though, because we can't see anything!

MediaMolecule did build a good portion of their logic into the actual walls of the level though, you can see it if you are looking for it. With the second part of the boss fight, there is a little car that plays out the stages of the boss's moves.

Well, MM claim they don't use invisible stuff.

In fact, isn't the colloector boss collectable? Why did none of us just think to go look

Theamilien, reverse engineering contraptions in LBP is an absolute nightmare, I tend to think it's easier to just start from scratch!

The first collector boss isn't collectable, I know cause I have collected everything, the whole level should be copyable in my opinion.

I played collector boss loads of times in some pics i took i found that some of the mag keys/switches that Mm uses aren't invisible they're just really tiny.

I saw that in the beginning, the 2nd set of brains were hidden.

First the brains were blocked by rubber to protect from cheating, after you hit those brains, the 2nd set of brains were hidden behind it. Then it dissolves for the 2nd part.

Mainly it's hard to understand cause MM cheats... meaning like not using the tools we have today.

They didn't "cheat", they are just very good at using their own tools. They used the same tools (actually less, they didn't have the Creator Pack or MGS Pack) as us, and they know what to do with them better than most people. Find something that truly cannot be recreated, and then you can tell me that MediaMolecule "cheats". I'm not talking about obscure things like colored magic mouths, I'm talking genuine contraptions. That boss that you are talking about can be recreated 100%.
