sackboy's inferno episode 3 by sighwhatever

Archive: 9 posts

Finally convinced this awesome creator to come back to LBP and grace us with some more content. This is a continuation of a series that I've long recommended to everyone, but is only appreciated by a select few. The first 2 episodes (and prequel) were from the very first months of LBP, and it's production values, character design, level aesthetics, and ingenious "teleport" gameplay were far ahead of their time... but in the hey deys of cool pages, it never got the respect and recognition it deserved.

The 3rd episode is finally out, and is a mind boggling puzzle affair that makes any puzzle level I've published look like child's play in terms of challenge. Anyway, I don't want to overrate it, but give it a go, only if you're looking for a serious thinker and keep in mind that the design of destructible and mobile teleports will sometimes lead you into a situation that causes you to restart the level - it's something that can't easily be avoided with such a creative gameplay mechanic in place, but is entirely worth suffering through for the thrill of victory.

Give the guy some support, so that he continues to see LBP as a worthwhile place for his creativity.

I played this a while ago, the introduction screen is awesome and all the puzzles and stuff are great (and hard!) but I think the second one is the best one in the series. This one has some parts that if you die you have to restart the level so any little mistake you make you have to restart. I haven't finished it but I still hearted it.2009-07-15 04:05:00

I wonder how long Ninja and I will hold up as the only 2x team to complete it. 2009-07-15 05:20:00

Yeah, prt 2 is still my favorite, brnxbzle... since it was the first instance of that suicide gameplay and feels more unique because of it... it's also got a more rounded out presentation since there's more dialogue and characters. 3 was just like fan service, although, the intro story-recap and it's subtle hint is fantastic. There's a couple spots even in ep 2 (and even in 1 if you toss the ticket in the fire) that you can mess up badly, especially with multiple players.

There are quite a few ways to get in a pinch in ep 3, and a couple spots he could fix maybe with the use of preactivated checkpoints that emit in an emergency situation... but a little birdy told me that there should be something coming along in the future that will solve all these kinds of problems. One thing he could fix right now is giving the carriage more room on the far right side, and adding a bumper so it doesn't move too close to the wall. Like I said though, for the most part, it's just a consequence of the gameplay style - it can either be like this, or not at all.

I still love the series though, and hope he keeps it up... and maybe does something with that WIP preview level he has too.

Me and Gruntos beat it yesterday, and I ended up figuring out how the two we did the cheater way actually worked. The actual solutions are ingenious... it's so out of the box, and it's always right in front of your face the whole time.

Also, Gruntos solved the room with the carriage that we spent 30 minutes in, in about 3 minutes lol

What, the black spongy vehicle thingy? I want to know that and the one we could never figure out with the small gap with the two switches and it was a mess.2009-07-15 15:25:00

Haha, I think know what you're talking about. That would definitely improve this level.

It was excellent, like Ninja said, himself and I were in the level for about an hour in total. We had to restart a couple of times but the level really pushes you on to see more. The mecahnics and ideas were top notch.

I had loads of fun, I'm going to have to go back to it, rate and heart and comment!!!
