I think it looks good compared to some of the previous movies

It looks very dark and action based. The book bored me to death but it looks good on screen
I'm looking forward to seeing it

Agreed with Dexiro, it looks better than the other movies. I think they just keep getting better and better.
The book was alright, but it definitely wasn't my favorite.
Anyway, I don't want to give anything big away, so.. in this movie, let's just say Harry finds out something important to do with Voldemort that will help him later on.. and some other stuff that I'm not gonna mention

Dumbledore dies.

I haven't seen the movie yet, will do some time over the summer. It better be good, it's taken them long enough to make.

Man, I don't know what you guys are talking about. Maybe I was just at the right age, but I loved the book. Each one was better than the last, for me. I'm going to see it tonight, but the movie looks pretty good - I'm glad that they aren't as childish as the earlier ones (the movies seem to grow with the characters, which makes sense).2009-07-14 20:53:00

The books did the same thing though

Each one got slightly more mature, that's why i didn't like some of the latest ones.
I still enjoyed them but i prefered the first few books that were more lighthearted

I love the books. I am such a nerd when it comes to Harry Potter.

I have already seen that the movie is not following the book properly by the first scene in the trailer. Never mind about that though. :o

It doesn't come out til tomorrow here. My cousin got to see it today though because he works in the cinema. I have to wait til Friday because it was fully booked.

Lol yeah, like I said it was alright. There was one part that was really good, but I'm not gonna say it because that would just give it away for others

Half-Blood Prince might be my favorite book (Goblet of Fire holds a special place in my cauldron) and I think the movie looks great. Unfortunately, my wife is out of town and I told her that I'd wait for her to get back to go see it. It's only a couple of days, but I'm impatient!2009-07-15 04:34:00

Just saw the movie. It was really good. It was a very deep cinematic adventure for what is supposed to be a children's series. I was going in expecting the same sort of PG type Harry Potter movies we've gotten from the previous iterations, but this movie had a lot going on (which was a good thing). The romantic bits were a bit forced, but they opened doors for the great humor that was scattered about. There were some truly powerful scenes, and it's nice to see the growth of many of these young actors. I was a bit disappointed with how they ended the movie, though. It seemed like they were trying very hard to set up a sequel...but if people are seeing this movie, they are probably already emotionally committed to the series and told need to be told, "Hey, there's more coming!"

All in all, I'd give a solid 9 out of 10.

Well, it's 3:30 AM...goodnight (and excuse any typos).

I only really saw the first and second movies.

Anyone know why they can't say Voldemort?

Just saw it, kinda lame. It had it's moments, and was pretty well made. But it just wasn't satisfying, and some parts didn't translate well from the book onto screen. This one actually has less action and the was pretty anti-climactic.2009-07-15 10:34:00

I'm really looking forward to it. Really considered going at midnight last night, but I was way too tired with traveling yesterday. Extremely excited about it and it's getting overall positive reviews thus far. I haven't been seriously disappointed with any of the films thus far and don't anticipate an empty feeling once I manage to see this one.2009-07-15 14:57:00

My GF saw it and pretty much agree with Walter-Kovacs.

The film is apparently devoid of action, and nothing really happens in the whole film.

From the interviews I've read with the director that sounds about right, he said he wanted to move away from getting continually darker and focus more on characterisation, aka snorrrrreeee.

I'll see it sometime this week so give you my own thoughts

It's not advertised as an action flick, so I'm not sure what the problem is. The stories are all about the growth of the characters and the struggle to achieve their ultimate goal. I'm sorry Michael Bay didn't direct this one... ha ha/

The trailor I've seen (which has been playing in every cinema I've been to recently) YouTube - Harry Potter and the Half Blood Price - Official Trailer #4b - Real HD 1080p definately pitches it as if not an action film then one with a lot of action.

The stories might very well be about growth and in depth character development, but hey have a lot more time to do that in whilst also providing the thrills and spills you need.

As I said I haven't seen it yet but will let you know what I think when I do, hopefully it'll be like the later films rather than those god awful first 2

Are you sure?

I saw a ton of stuff in that trailer that made it look like a more action based film

Apparently they miss off the last few chapters of the book... I hate it when movies do this.

I will give my verdict tomorrow night If I can get on.

I prefer the books to the movies, myself. I've got all the books, but I only own the first three movies. In my opinion, the first movie was the best, and they just sort of slowly pulled farther and farther away from the books with each one. I think the biggest problem for me was not seeing the World Cup in the Goblet of Fire movie. I don't remember much else from the movie, besides making hobo jokes due to everyone's stupid haircuts. The fifth movie, I know I saw it, and I know there were lots of people in the theatre, but that's about all I can remember, so that wasn't a good movie. I probably won't see this one until it comes out, and then I'll rent it or something. Maybe.2009-07-16 16:32:00

The film is far from a masterpiece, but it's also nothing close to a disaster either. If you've read the books then I'd say you know what to expect from this one for the most part. If you're just into the films then I could see how this one might leave a bitter taste in your mouth. That said, the seventh book is riddled with action - unlike book six I must say - and is sure to blow minds given they're making it into two films.

I do have to say that I believe this film suffered much the same fate as the fourth installment. Tons of stuff to get to and just not enough time to do it. The fifth book was downright painful in so many ways. However, the screenwriters were able to sift through all of Rowling's meaningless dribble and pull out what just so happened to be a great story. The sixth book is much like the fourth in that it rivals Clancy's works in length and has just as much meat throughout its 800 pages and - due to obvious time constraints - both the fourth and sixth films both leave you wanting more...

In summation, I'm hopeful that they are able to go out with a bang by splitting up the seventh book across two films. There's at least as much important content in books seven as there was in books four and six and I think a nice, big, five-hour canvas is just what they need to end it the right way. Look for an epic finish like that of Return of the King; it may sound like blasphemy to say that now, but Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows hit classic status in my mind long before I had finished going through it.

Back to the current film though, I'd have to say it's a solid 3 out of 4 stars. Lots of organization and character development but done so in a way that I have a hard time believing anyone felt tortured. After all, it's not like any of us are Frank and Alice Longbottom...

Great movie, 4/5. They left out so many things, like Dumbledore's Funeral and the epic battle finale. Why'd they remove it? >: (

Oh, and the actress who played Ginny sucked bad :/. She always had this one serious look glued to her face the whole movie -.-

I thought it was easily the best of the series. The ending was very well handled (as it should be from a 7 book series). Also, it worked almost as a mystery-type story, as they were in search of all the hidden horcruxes, and had to figure out how to get them and what to do with them. I would recommend finding a library if you don't feel like investing $10.

IMO 1 or 2 hairy potters was enough.

Its just plain uber boring, if you need a good nights sleep then go to a movie and watch it, my freind got it and watched 5 minutes and chucked it out the window.

Spoken like someone who just doesn't get it. Do you think there should've only been only 1 or 2 Lord of Rings as well?

So you think all 7 books should of been condensed into 2 movies?

That wouldn't even be long enough for it to make sense

I saw this last week with a few mates. Whether I was distracted by the fact that one of them had brought HP glasses and a light-up wand that turned on/off when you flicked it (awesome!), or whether it was truly as I am about to describe, I found the acting pretty poor at parts, and that nothing much really happened.2009-07-23 11:58:00

Has anyone seen the new advert for this?

It's really annoying me, it makes it seem like a lighthearted comedy or something and doesn't reflect what it's about at all.

I can't show you exactly what i mean because i can't find it on youtube hopefully someone will know what i'm talking about xD

I haven't seen it but i seriously can't imagine it would be lighthearted in the way that advert showed it to be.

It's like a montage of post-apocalyptic scenes with an Electric 6 song being played in the background

I just watched Order of Pheonix on On Demand.

1. I want the Dudleys or whatever they're called to die. Seriously. The fat kid really needs to die.
2. Why does it take 15 minutes for the movie to show what the book says. I swear, I read the book for a week before I gave up and I just got to the Order of the Phoenix, while in the movie they get there in like, 5 minutes. Why do authors have to go through elaborate yarns on the color, texture, taste, and smell of the wood on the floor? Let me use my imagination, people!

I agree wholeheartedly with your second point and it's the reason that - in my opinion - Order of the Phoenix is the worst book in the series. A little too detailed for its own good in my opinion.
