A colorful city with lots of prizes and fun.
all
I have just published this level, but it received :star::star: stars and 6 plays...

I think it received :star::star: stars because there's a simple puzzle in the beginning that some might not solve.

Does anybody want to look at my level?
(I'll try to add pictures of the level later.)

EDIT: I've made a version 2 of this level, it simply removes the puzzle in the beginning.
EDIT: There is no more version 2.
EDIT: I republished the level a couple of times, so the level no longer has 2 stars, but rather 5 stars.
EDIT: The level is gone...

I now have pictures for the level!
This level has about 24 items in total, and some good visuals.

(This is the puzzle that may be causing people to give this level :star::star: stars.) /

Does anyone want to give me help for the level on how to make it better?

Nice level! Lots of nice touches I thought were pretty clever-

First comes the puzzle-
I think any problems people may be having with it comes from the fact that you can't get rid of extra boxes. The puzzle itself isn't difficult, unless you make any mistakes. Extra boxes on your pile of boxes can make it impossible to pass, and there's really no way to get rid of them. My best idea to fix this would be to make the boxes grabbable, then put on a grab switch which makes them dissolve, or a little dialogue that teaches players what each button does (specifically the dissolve box dropper).

The other problem with the puzzle comes from the auto-plane switching. When you try to jump over the first red button, you are autoswitched to the little step on the second plane. This also happens coming the other way, jumping across the dissolve button. Instead, you might want to just fill up the area, since the little steps aren't really used for anything.

I'm not completely sure the rockets on the ending car were necessary, or if they were to keep the car from flipping, if they needed as much force as they were given. The car hits the jump, then when in midair is randomly forced into the ground.

Great level though, lots of work put into making it look good. The elevators were pretty idiot-proof, and everything worked as it should. I didn't test if anything happens if you miss the train, but if not that may be worth looking into. Keep up the good work!

So you knew that the far right button destroys the boxes on that lane, right?
I did want to add speech bubbles, but I'm trying to keep dialog and instructions limited, but I suppose I may need to change that now.
And I'll try to fix the extra spots that you accidentally jump on.

I was just trying to make the ending more exciting, but it's fairly difficult to control the car with a three way switch, I'll try to change that to a grab switch.

Thanks for the kind feedback! The train has a checkpoint on it, so if you fall off somehow, you should spawn back on the train.

So you knew that the far right button destroys the boxes on that lane, right?

I actually realized that as I was writing, as I was writing the feedback as I played the level. The first time I played through I stepped on the button a few times just to see what it did, but nothing happened (I'm assuming my stack of boxes stopping the disolver from emitting). I didn't realize what it did until me second time through >_<.

The train has a checkpoint on it, so if you fall off somehow, you should spawn back on the train.

The second time I played through I started the train but forgot to hit the spawnpoint. As I was preparing to jump the little electric boxes I realized it and jumped to it, but you may want to lower it a bit so you can't get to the grab switch without walking through it. That's sorta what I was thinking about with the train comments, but hopefully I've helped!

Haha, I love this level. The creative use of Burgerman's stickers was, well, creative, and the challenges were really well suited. I loved the way everything just blended together perfectly - even the light after the box stacking obstacle (which I assume you were trying to hide) fit in nicely. The train was nice too, and it ended at exactly the right moment. (By that I mean it would have gotten boring if you ended it any later and too short if you ended and earlier.) The cars were nice - custom made I suppose? But what was up with the police station - were you speeding? DUI? Eh, I guess it doesn't matter but just thought I'd mention that. The arcade was also really well done, the darkness indicating that either it was closed or abandoned was nice, though I think the lights from the arcade machines could have been a little bit more eerie - maybe an LED light set to foggy with a small brightness? Well anywho the VR-esque part of the arcade was absolutely fantastic although the constant beeps got on my nerves so effin' bad.
I gave it 5 stars and hearted, mostly because I actually played this level before! I saw it on Cool Pages (you know how random levels pop up there sometimes?) and loved it. gj dood

Hey there,

The text boxes over the buttons fo the puzzle at the start really helped make thing clear. This level was loads of fun and I had a blast playing it. I especially enjoyed the arcade part, but I am a sucker for that darned paint gun!
On a second note, I also really liked your use of the burgerman stickers. As far as negative things go I don't really have much to say. I can't think of anything wrong with this level. Having said that, I think it would be a good idea to make the lighting in the arcade section more ethereal, if you know what I mean. A quick little color correction would really make those vibrant hues pop.
Great work! Hearted!

As far as f4f goes, I would really appreciate it if you gave my "The Adventure of the Prince: Chapter 1 The Attack" level a try. The link to my thread is in my signature, just click on it.

Thank you!

Really liked this level warlord - hearted it!

Really liked the choice of music and the atmosphere, and I think the level is very varied. Love the use of the stickers, and arcade section was really cool. Only thing I would say was at the part with the rollers and the small yellow taxi metal platforms, the camera zooms out which means that it's a little tricky to judge the distance between the platforms. I understand that this is needed for the part with the rollers, but perhaps it could zoom in a little when it gets to the platforms, or otherwise just track the player a little more? However, you might have wanted it to be tricky to be more challenging for players!

As I said though, really liked the feel of this level, and all the though put into the various visuals. Great work, I'll look forward to playing it again!

Yes, a really fine level, it has everything a good level should have.
Good pace, nice setting, very fresh in artstyle...maybe the arcade section was kinda out of place and made me lower the rating from 5 to 4, but I really wait another of your levels.

Thank you all for the kind comments! I think I might improve the Taxi Metal area too.

Sorry but my level "Jazz" wasn't listed for F4F, but I will still give you feedback on your level, I actually played it earlier, but I think I'll play it again so I can give accurate feedback.

lol, your level started with 2 stars but now you have 5! Congratulations!

First thing I noticed when I entered the level was the use of stickers, I LOVE them, and I love little blue things with giant magic mouths on them, but then again I love most random things like that. Oh, and the music seems to suit it too, and the starting puzzle was great!

I got a little confused on the elevator afterwards, I though I had to get off at the next floor, but I felt like an idiot when I realised I could go higher.. XD

I also liked riding on top of the train, and thank god you put a checkpoint on top... I've seen parts like this without the checkpoint, and it's ruined the whole thing on occasion.

The arcade part was great, I love the contrast between the rest of the level and how it suddenly looks like I'm in a game, the lighting helps with that I assume. I think it was at this point I started to realize that this level may actually be quite big, which is really convenient when I come across a level I like as much as this!

The boss was quite imaginative, I don't think I've seen anything like that, though I did realize that If I stood right at the back I had a huge advantage.

I was sad to finish this level, but perhaps the urge to find all the items will force me to play it again soon. Overall, this reminds me of a level I would have expected to see in a MM level, which is definitely a sign, if you make more levels like this, let me know! I think you've deserved and author heart!
:star::star::star::star::star:

P.S- Only 15 plays? Seriously? Why is no one playing this? I demand that every little Sack Boy or Gal in LBP plays this now, or it'll make Beavor cry...

I republished the level several times so the ratings have changed from what was on this thread. Once again, thanks for the comments!

Frazer 951, please forgive for not giving feedback on your level yet. (although my level has no F4F)

One thing I'm somewhat surprised about is that nobody has mentioned anything about the music that plays when your riding the train.

WHAT? How can you be so clumsy? I just played it yesterday and looked up the thread to tell how much I liked the city design, the arcade, the boss and how well you used the Burgerman stickers . It was really good and severly underplayed. Gone forever! 2009-08-29 01:17:00
