I'm not sure EXACTLY how it works but this is how I think it works. Everytime you republish with a change made to the level, it will go on page 1 for a little while then keep going down the pages. Once you get a certain amount of hearts/plays/stars, it will start climbing up the Cool Levels one by one. The more hearts you get the higher page it will be on. You only have 7 days after publishing to "stick" to Cool Levels, after that it will never stay permanently, only when you republish it will stay for a little while.2009-07-13 17:06:00

Each time you publish your level it falls on page one. Then it drops down in like 10-15 mins.

In the first seven days of publication though, you have a chance to actually STICK to cool pages. With enough activity on your level, at some point it will appear in the first 5-10 pages and actually won't drop down anymore until the seven days are done.

During the first 7 days, if you want to stick and climb, you need to republish (by overwriting) your level. The more you get activity, hearts, high ratings, etc the more you will climb. After 7 you're out of the cool levels pool. Your level disappear into oblivion. (each time you republish it will still do the "stay in the cool pages for 10mins thing" though).

So that week is pretty much your 15-min of fame?? ...that sucks.
That explains a lot what happened to my level. It had started on page 7 and it kept going higher and higher as the days went by. I finally reached page 2 and suddenly the next day, it disappeared...
I'm not complaining though, this has been the most successful run up to date for me. In that week, I got about 4200 plays which I'm very proud of. It's just sad that it is never gonna see the cool pages again..
There's no way of bringing it back??

It sounds more like "new" levels rather than "cool"...

The rotation needs to be fast because it's only way you can possibly have a time under the sun. In the old system there was no rotation so whatever the level that was there since the longest simply stayed on the first page and continously get plays. Now it's alot better because there is actually people that can play your level.

Now you can't "bring back" your level as in "getting it to stick there" but each time you republish it, it will pop on the first page for 10-15 mins and drop down page by page.

If you want to be back in the seven days pool, you need to publish your level in a new spot instead of overwriting. But this obviously means new stats.

How do people make 100k plays...
I got 4000 plays in my 7 day run, but it never made it to the first page. It went from 7 to the 2nd page. I'm pretty happy with the results, but does that mean that I'm never gonna reach those numbers??

Its cause random losers with no lives make these ridiculously hard but awful 1-life levels, so people wind up restarting multiple times (I didn't think restarts counted as plays)

So add that with the 1-week new level stick....and you get the idea.

I think this would be a good idea for a sticky if possible. It seems there are quite a few people who don't know this, and it would benefit them.

Don't we have such sticky already?

Same thing for the "back up your level online" and the "how to clean your profile" tricks. I guess people simply don't read. Those questions are coming back regularly.

I'll try to find where this is stickied.

EDIT: It seems there is no clear sticky about that.

If you manage to get up to near the top of cool pages as quickly as possible (based on plays, hearts, and good ratings) you get longer on the top of cool pages during those 7 days.

Usually the people with play counts such as 100,000 have a level that people will keep playing over and over again... such as an addictive survival challenge. You will usually notice these don't have a huge amount of hearts considering the plays... not because they aren't good, but because a single person could play it many many times.

There's actually no reason at all why a level such as yours shouldn't get 10,000+ plays if you get it up there quick enough. You just need to republish fresh, put up a showcase here - and do small updates in your level and republish frequently to get it cemented into cool pages as quickly as possible.

A really good quality level with nice aesthetics will rise pretty quickly.

It's good to have a nice support system of PSN friends also, because you can generally send a message telling them its up and you get some nice initial ratings and hearts. I get little messages from RangerZero, MrsSpookyBuz, Wexfordian, and a bunch of others and I immediately go in and get the ball rolling. And they do the same for me.

(of note, this can actually work TOO well sometimes - I was trying to be low profile with Destiny! and because of this site it was on page 5 in the first day).

You're right Ccubbage. I actually did that too!! The Decent 2 was the first level I did that with and gave me fantastic results... in my opinion..(4k may not sound like a lot to some ppl) I actually sent messages to the people that helped me with the level: Aurongel, mrsupercomputer, julesyjules & Kevio. The all helped me with ideas, testing and constructive critisism, and that's why I included them at the end of the level. It's great to work like that cause it makes us greater creators. I'm sure they know they can expect the same amount of help from my end.
But no matter how many ppl you know, it kinda sucks that your level is going to be sent out to oblivion.. I know that this way is better than before, but I just wish there was a better way....

Keep in mind also, it's not really going into oblivion - when you create your NEXT level it will generate plays for your previous ones. When I did Tiger Woods, I not only got 14k+ plays on it, I also got over 2000 plays on my other levels.

When "The Descent 3" comes out, people will play it and many will wonder "I wonder what the other 2 were like... I'm missing part of the story".

As long as you have new levels coming out, you can generate plays for previous ones.
