R4R tag... just a thought

Archive: 14 posts

I'm a HUGE fan of F4F (feedback for feedback) and I was once an avid review writer, though I've slacked off lately while working on levels. So what about those who have maxed out their thermo, gotten the feedback they needed, and now just need to expose their creation to the world?

So I propose for those who are done with their masterpiece the R4R tag...

Drum roll.......

Review for Review!!!

This way they can add to their level threads with reviews of their completed gems, as long as they are willing to play other completed levels in the community and write up their opinions. I like this idea just because a level thread could be full of praise and hilites instead of lists of faults like they are from feedback... which I love! But once you're through all the initial plays and testing and have tweaked everything you could imagine... then what? You are just doomed to watch your thread drop to the bottom of the forums and your level's plays max out at 100... 125?

Just a thought. I love to review levels, and I would love my work reviewed as well so this was a natural progression in my head.

Thoughts?

Well, feedback is about the same as a review, and generally people include a rating of some kind at the end, so I'm not sure R4R is really necessary. We here would prefer feedback over simply a review because the process helps creators make their levels better. By reviewing, there's not any tips on how to make it better, etc. I feel that the F4F system in place is doing just fine.

Now, if only we had a H4H tag. THAT WUD B AWSUM!!1! i Need that sHare Trohpy...

[/sarcasm]

Edit: ^ darn, beat me to it.

well look at your average feedback, it's a hit list. Where as look at our review forum, and they are summaries of the levels, with hilites that are written out and easily read. I didn't think this would get much thought because most would see them as almost the same thing. I was just wondering what people thought besides me.

I just notice HUGE queue lists on the review threads, like MINE actually. So if someone wants their level reviewed right away, what better way than to do some reviews of their own?

Couldn't you just ask for that when you put a level up for F4F? Say you want a written out review of the level as opposed to points, and that you'll return the favour.2009-07-13 03:32:00

Its kinda a subjective thing too. If someone words their F4F request saying they want detailed feedback for a F4F, i'd be sure to try and give them some. Or if someone asked me (not necessarily as a F4F) to test their level for them, i generally try to help as much as i can. I'm not sure you'd need a R4R tag, i imagine you could ask people to be very detailed as a requirement for F4F and return the favor just the same.2009-07-13 05:13:00

What about T4T? (test 4 test)

Got something in the works but not ready to be released? Want to keep it within a small group of people? Tag it with T4T!

Ok, maybe not...

My "feedback" is technically a review. I go through all of the aspects of the level, say what I liked and didn't like, and then (as is mandatory in LittleBigPlanet) I give them a rating. R4R is a good idea, but we already have such a wide variety of F4F methods, that it wouldn't be as used. If F4F had a rigid structure to it that didn't make it almost exactly like a review, then it wouldn't be such an issue to add in R4R, but I think at this point in the current situation it would just be confusing and cluttered, especially for new users.2009-07-13 13:56:00

I agree with you. I think there should be a R4R tag. I don't think that people are viewing this idea as you and I see it.

Reviews can carry on after feedback. Man... I can't explain what I am thinking...

erm...

Oh well. I agree with you.

Doesn't this just come down to different people's understanding of the terms "feedback" and "review"? To me, for instance, a review is just another form of feedback. I can see the point that a full review would likely be longer and more in depth than some people's feedback, but some of us do give quite detailed feedback anyway.

Also, asking people for a full review rather than just free-form feedback sounds like a lot more effort, I'm sure a lot of people wouldn't actually go for it - the actual reviewers on the site always seem to have quite a backlog, and those are the people who specifically want to do reviews...

I have a completely separate thread in reviews section for reviews, and it's entirely based on Luck - and I've neglected it for a LONG time now - but this isn't the thread for that.

I think those long lists of people awaiting reviews could go away with an R4R tag. That's the whole point to this thread. Yes, it is more in depth, and takes more time, and there are just a select few doing reviews right now. I think the R4R concept would kick people in behind and make them fall in love with the review process. I mean not only playing levels but using their opinions of great levels in review form to get those same levels more plays. And in return, have the opportunity to get plays and some reviews back which can be used to promote their completed levels.

This says "just a thought" for a reason, I know most people probably think it's the same as feedback... and IN FACT> Read any of my reviews! Any single one of them - they are split into two parts, the review... then feedback for the creator.

So essentially my justification for the difference between a review and feedback, is feedback is for the creator to improve, and reviews are for everyone else to be exposed.

If you're distinguishing between feedback and reviews the way you say, then I think it would be a great idea. Because sometimes you're happy with the level the way it is, and don't feel the need to improve it, which I get the feeling is what F4F is for. If you just wanted to get the word out there about your level with some reviews, which would just be people playing your level and telling you what they think, not necessarily telling you how to improve it, then I think it would work well. But that's just my opinion.2009-07-13 18:54:00
