The Perpetual Distance - The PrologueKoRnDawwg http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=475&pictureid=4085The prologue to the new LBP adventure series is out now! You are swept to an undiscovered body just beyond the planet Earth, where you are introduced to a critical situation which will change your life forever. Inspired by the music in the albums, "The Great Cold Distance" by Katatonia and, "In Absentia" by Porcupine Tree. Enjoy! Wow, this level is amazing! The attention to detail, and the story are truly excellent. How long did this take you? There's quite a bit of text, so it's not for people who dislike books. I however love a good read, and you complemented it very well with the special effects! I would say that before you actually meet the characters it's a bit confusing as to who is talking at the beginning. It may be an idea to at least see a slight glimpse of them. I thought it was simply like many levels where the rock was talking to me. A few puzzles would be good... but I'm assuming they are likely to turn up in the sequel, which I have to say I am very much looking forward to. Great work! I had to give this the full :star::star::star::star::star: and heart it. It deserves nothing less. Please check out the co-op moo level in my signature... or the other if you can only play 1 player. Not up to your standard, but hopefully you'll find them fun. | 2009-07-12 23:12:00 Author: LieutenantFatman Posts: 465 |
I'll be giving this level a go tomorrow. Sounds like it's going to be good, cant wait! Black-Toof :arg: | 2009-07-13 00:41:00 Author: BlackToof Posts: 172 |
This level was really cool. The story was much different than the usual stuff and the way you presented it (interactions w/ the characters/the 3D movie-dream thing) really immersed you into it all. Then the way it all looked (great waterfall) and played was great. I really liked the training section and the comments you get afterwards (I'd like to see them survive a rock slide!). The characters had different personalities (and they weren't stereotypical) and they looked good too. My only complaint was that it ended soon. I wanted more but all those cool cutscenes probably took a heavy toll on your thermo. Overall, an easily earned :star::star::star::star::star: and a heart. If you could leave feedback on Morning Rush, that'd be cool. | 2009-07-13 00:51:00 Author: RickTheRipper Posts: 345 |
Hooray! I'm off to play this, and record it! | 2009-07-13 02:06:00 Author: Kog Posts: 2358 |
Great level KoRnDawwg. I'm excited for part 2. It looked really nice and had a great story setting up the next level. I'm sorry if there's not much to say - this was the first level I played in an LBP spree, so I don't remember all of it, but I do remember appreciating it and giving it :star::star::star::star::star:. | 2009-07-13 03:09:00 Author: comphermc Posts: 5338 |

This level had alot of options for movement beyond the storyline. Also a very atmospheric piece of work here, i quite enjoyed all the different ways to go and the use of light and darkness for glowing eyes. There was a quite a bit of talking in the level but it was there for a reason to build up the level which is a good thing. The story was well driven and there was good detail in the level. The use of lightning in the cavey area was very good. And to think this was only a prologue! Looking forward to the actual game haha :hero: *EDIT* how stupid of me i forgot to say what i rated it. :star::star::star::star::star: i think it was ^^ I'd appreciate it if you'd give my boss level a go for F4F: https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=t=13609 | 2009-07-13 20:33:00 Author: BlackToof Posts: 172 |
Holy crap I'm surprised at the feedback that this is getting, the last time I checked this level got five stars instantly (with many thanks to you guys), thank you all! And I must say a special thank you to Cog - dude, awesome video! I also forgot to mention that the prologue doesn't have a lot in terms of gameplay - the chapters that follow it will. | 2009-07-14 17:31:00 Author: KoRnDawwg Posts: 1424 |
This level was fantastic! The visuals were very well done. I loved the waterfalls at the beginning and the mysterious introduction to the world. The view of Earth made me do a double take and form that moment I was hooked! For a prologue level, it had a good mixture of gameplay and story. I absolutely loved going into the dream world! I hope there is more of that to come! Great job, now bring on the next one! The gameplay platforming and puzzle solving was pretty sparce, but I don't remember any frustrating parts. | 2009-07-15 20:34:00 Author: mrsupercomputer Posts: 1335 |
I checked it out last night and it's great! + A mysterious and cool opening statement in the dark + An even more mysterious voice that follows you for awhile + Lush and beautiful cliffs + Great characters to interact with + Cool cut scene section + Beautiful music on the fire/walk section + Cool lighting on the staircase + Potential for cool levels to follow + Love the plotline and the ideas behind it - pretty easy platforming but not a major problem for me Found a few technical issues I missed the first time trough while playing with NinjaMicWZ and a few of his friends. 1. It's possible to be trapped in the window of the first "building" on the top left of the lift area. (up lift , take sponge up, then go left, then the first building like thing with the lattice windows) 2. With 2x or more players the guaranteed death to get to the respawn area isn't always 100%. We had people laging behind that survived the fall and the gas then we didn't know how to get through that section. You might have to make it so that all players arrive at the same time to get killed or it's much more obvious that they must sackicide to get to the next area. 3. The area after the fire walkway you can swing your sponge all the way to the right and go through the wall and end up outside the level on the floor. 4. It's also possible with a mulitiple party to get below the skull guy. Add some gas maybe? I'll play it again tonight to see if I can find anything more. I still really like it and gave it 5 stars & hearted it. Thanks for another great level! | 2009-07-15 21:25:00 Author: Morgana25 Posts: 5983 |
Played this while scoping out cool pages. I really enjoyed it. It had that combination of good story-telling and atmosphere. The waterfalls were sweet. The effects you created in this level told part of the story without words. It was mysterious and intriguing. I'm really looking foward to the next part in this series. I will suggest to close off a window that comes early in the level, after the lift. I got stuck in there and had to start over. Great job on this. | 2009-07-16 03:43:00 Author: antman Posts: 84 |
Saw this on Cool Levels as well. I just have to say that between you, Morgana, MrsSB, IceMaiden, and that lady what made the Starcruiser level, I just wanna put the visuals on my levels to the torch and go to art school. KEEP WRITING story. Please. | 2009-07-16 04:55:00 Author: coyote_blue Posts: 422 |
Once again, amazing work korn, the lighting blew me away. only thing i didn't like was the rocky death at the beginning (i'm a light jumper ), the rubble looked unfinished compared to the rest of the level. keep up the great work! | 2009-07-16 06:48:00 Author: Burnvictim42 Posts: 3322 |
So it's already out! I must play it. You have been quite quick man! | 2009-07-16 08:46:00 Author: OmegaSlayer Posts: 5112 |
Wow thank you to you all! Sadly, most of the LBP community do not take to reading that much so that has earned me the tag, "Satisfying". Very annoyed, however, it's getting quite a few plays so I'm happy ^^* Just a couple of notes: -- The level is not intended for multiplayer, and I know the skull section is my fault (never really saw it coming), but I did say that the level is unlikely to work in multiplayer due to various mechanisms (require all, teleports, PTDs...). So Morgana - try it in single player, it's way better! -- This prologue is limited in terms of gameplay - it's a prologue! The following chapters are more, if not, heavily based on platforming, and will not fail to disappoint Puzzles will be frequent. Thanks for your feedback so far, still ****** about the satisfactory tag... -___-' | 2009-07-16 14:26:00 Author: KoRnDawwg Posts: 1424 |
The visuals are awesome, and they put the rest of us too shame I loved the look and feel of the level. My favorite part was the dream sequence. There was a lot of reading involved and it reminded me of final fantasy IIV. I can see a few sackboys going into the level thinking, 'alright i'm going to see some action!' find out they have to read a lot to do so and then return the disk to the store. By the way, I loved final fantasy IIV. The multiple ports blew my mind, and had me thinking...'how did he do that?' As you said in your previous posts, there is more action to come, which I will be looking forward too. I played it on two player and had no issues with camera angles, so kudo's for that. About the tags as well, I don't know how the game selects tags, but its not the first three tags that get selected. Depending on the shape, layout and size, the game will alter which tag's it selects to place first and foremost, which I think is kind of lame. :star::star::star::star::star: ( (/ ted If you get a chance I would appreciate it if you reviewed my level 'towers of Patheon'. | 2009-07-16 19:47:00 Author: nartules Posts: 38 |
Wow, congratulations, the level is purely incredible. The design, gameplay and, most of all, story, is great. Curious to see the next levels. Oh, and the "no lifes" part was creepy, I actually died 5 stars :star::star::star::star::star::arg: | 2009-07-16 20:07:00 Author: Shadowmoser Posts: 17 |
Fantastic looking level, what I saw of it!! The bit where it says I may not be revived if I die, I died and consequently was not revived as promised. I would have tried again but I feel sure my attempts would have been futile. Great work on your part!!! Icey | 2009-07-17 14:41:00 Author: IceMaiden Posts: 1057 |
Hi KoRnDawwg. Apologies for my late reply, but I've only just stumbled across the F4F thread. I played your level twice - once on my own, and once with my hubby, SpookyBuz. What an absolutely fabulous level! I have to say straight away that obviously I don't know where you're going with the future story, but any level that remotely resembles conspiracy/alternate universes/parallel realities/strangeness has my attention immediately. Your level was an immersive experience, and a joy to play. I loved it, and it's possibly the best level I've played for a good few weeks. PROS + Top class set up and storyline + Wonderful atmosphere and great visuals + Everything worked how it should (twice) + Other-worldly surrealism + You took a bit of a risk with a story that's refreshing, and it worked + Left me frothing at the bit for more CONS - It ended! - It'll be underrated and underplayed by the 'masses' OVERALL Humourous, involving gameplay with a smattering of mystery and intrigue. I can't understate how much I enjoyed this. Very well done. Spotlight, here you come. I rated this 5*, hearted, and tagged with 'Brilliant' (because there wasn't a 'Superb' tag!). Cheers, MrsSB | 2009-07-17 19:41:00 Author: MrsSpookyBuz Posts: 1492 |
Yep really good. Only thing I would suggest was that at one point you have a cutscene appearing while players are collecting score bubbles (at the two characters standing by that gate). Often players will try skipping the cutsenes to keep the bubble run going. Other than that It was pretty cool. Nice story you`ve got going there. | 2009-07-18 00:51:00 Author: Matt 82 Posts: 1096 |

Oh, and the "no lifes" part was creepy, I actually died 5 stars :star::star::star::star::star::arg:Just as I promised, YOU WILL DIE! Mwahahahaaa! *cough* Sorry, I mean, ouch, how did you die? If it's by some stupid mistake I've made then please tell, I'll correct Thank you for playing and I hope you will enjoy the chapters to follow as well Fantastic looking level, what I saw of it!! The bit where it says I may not be revived if I die, I died and consequently was not revived as promised. I would have tried again but I feel sure my attempts would have been futile. Great work on your part!!! IceyA-A-A-A-AAAAAAAH, the "No Lives" part only applies to that particular section. After you enter the level and the pop-up comes up saying "Greetings sir we thought you'd never wake...", I destroy the checkpoint, and hence why I tell you that you cannot be revived. If you continue as normal another checkpoint will spawn from the moment you either fall into the waterfall or get crushed by the rocks, and you should be teleported. Try it again, and if you have any further problems, tell me and I will fix Thank you! Hi KoRnDawwg. Apologies for my late reply, but I've only just stumbled across the F4F thread. Cheers, MrsSBWhy, thank you very much for your feedback and kind words! I'm glad everything worked fine, especially in 2-player (I apologise for some Require All switches, I forgot to change them -____-&apos. I'm so glad that you found this enjoyable and, as with everyone who has left feedback thus far, I'm grateful that you played it in the first place. Thank you so much! Oh, and I knew that it wansn't going to be welcomed by the masses before I released the level. The evidence is there - despite the fact that several people have played the level, not many of them have hearted, which indicates that the majority are not fans of reading. One of them even complained that there was too much text and the story was too complex (which baffled me...). Yep really good. Only thing I would suggest was that at one point you have a cutscene appearing while players are collecting score bubbles (at the two characters standing by that gate). Often players will try skipping the cutsenes to keep the bubble run going. Other than that It was pretty cool. Nice story you`ve got going there.Ah yes, I considered that whilst creating, but then I found that you can get a really long chain (for the more adventurous) by getting through the cut-scenes first, then turning back, collecting everything on the short walls then dropping down quickly to get the remaining red score bubbles to get a x3 multiplier. But even so, I do understand, though it annoys me that people will try and close the text quickly to keep a miltiplier going, seeing as though the level contains a lot of pop-ups, but thank you for your feedback, chapter one will come out soon. NOW, F4F requests, I'm taking down names and getting to them today! | 2009-07-18 09:53:00 Author: KoRnDawwg Posts: 1424 |

Don't worry about F4F for me, Korn. Darn, and I was gonna play Project G3N3515. Oh well, I'll do so anyway | 2009-07-19 10:20:00 Author: KoRnDawwg Posts: 1424 |
So, have you read my book, it's called 'How to make yourself look stupid in one easy lesson'. I did try your level again KoRn, this time I did what I should have done and enjoyed all aspects of it. I was particularly impressed with the custom music, very well done. Loved the visuals and the storyline. Excellent work. Icey | 2009-07-19 10:36:00 Author: IceMaiden Posts: 1057 |
After finding it in cool levels, I decided to give this level a try. It's a visually pleasing level with a great storyline! The areas like the library and the bedrooms are very detailed, the platforming areas that are there are very good, stuff like the buildings and the waterfall are very nice and the dream sequence with the custom music is somewhat relaxing, and also very emerging. :star::star::star::star::star: and a heart. Brilliant work! | 2009-07-19 11:31:00 Author: lk9988 Posts: 1077 |
Thank you both! But I now declare this level officially DEAD. On Cool Pages. It vanished, gaining a total of 2,000 plays in its run. It isn't getting any more, however, I am determined to get the first chapter (which you can find in the Ideas and Projects forum) onto the front page, I've worked non-stop on it and it's going so well! | 2009-07-20 21:18:00 Author: KoRnDawwg Posts: 1424 |
I finally found the time to play it. Great stuff, really disturbing at times. Nice story but short level, I hope to see the sequel soon. Great custom music PS. You can get stuck in the windows in the first part of the tower, after the first elevator and you have to respawn. | 2009-07-21 07:37:00 Author: OmegaSlayer Posts: 5112 |
Awesome level! I'm loving the detail and the story is great and very interesting. I cannot wait for the next parts in the series. 5 stars and a heart from me. | 2009-07-21 18:13:00 Author: brnxblze Posts: 1318 |
