Grab and hold or just grab once....
Archive: 12 posts
How do you make it so that when you tap R1 on a grab switch it will fire a paintball for example, but when you grab and hold it will fire a rocket or something? ive seen this on many tanks but im confuddled about how you do it? | 2009-07-10 18:15:00 Author: theamilien Posts: 485 |
In all of the tanks I've seen, its on two separate switches. It's either that or they use the same grab switch, but there is a toggle in between. For example, if you grab switch A and it fires paintballs, then you grab switch B, and then back to switch A again and it fires rockets, the grab switch B is the toggle. I've seen that on most of the tanks. You could make it so if you hold it it fires rockets, but just pressing it shoots paintballs. The only problem is, if you held it, it would shoot a paintball, then a rocket. Is that what you want? | 2009-07-10 20:14:00 Author: BSprague Posts: 2325 |
Off the top of my head: For the quick grab fires a paintball I would have a 1 shot switch and a 1 shot inverted switch. Pump those into an AND gate. The output of which would only work if you grabbed nd released quickly. Might need some tuning on the timers. For the hold switch, have a quick-reset timer connected to a third, directional grab switch. This will only activate if you hold down R1. A bit of tuning and you should be away. There may be some lag on the grab and hold, but not too much. Edit - actually I think I can run it off of a single, directional switch. No access to PS3 atm so can't check | 2009-07-10 20:20:00 Author: rtm223 Posts: 6497 |

You put two grab switches on the same sponge. Make one a one shot switch and the other one a directional switch. The one shot gets tied to the paintball emitter. The other one gets tied to an off-screen piston and winch that connect a piece of dark matter and a piece of wood (or anything else). The piston is set to stiff and strength 5. The timing gets sent to double the time you want the grab switch to be held down for. The winch has strength 10 and is set to 0.1 seconds. Place a magnetic key on the wood and a magnetic key switch nearby with the radius set so it only gets activated when the piston and winch expand fully. The switch gets tied to the cannon. You can also add an additional component if you want the cannon to be grab, hold and release to give the player additional control. | 2009-07-11 14:44:00 Author: dcf Posts: 468 |
I have no idea how they work but deadeye49 has some great examples of that and all sorts of other complicated switches which he gives away in his levels. I would recommend you check them out first as that could save you a lot of trouble. | 2009-07-11 15:12:00 Author: mistervista Posts: 2210 |
Yikes! Really glad now that I didn't offer a solution on this one. >gulp< Tell me about it! DCF, correct me if I'm wrong, but won't your solution always fire the paintball? Mistervista, isn't deadeye49 that 10 year old kid? That guy is scary | 2009-07-12 10:43:00 Author: rtm223 Posts: 6497 |
http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t7/ontic/LBPpr_switch.jpg Sorry for the crappy drawing lol..... Blue = dark matter grey = glass green square/rectangle = magnet key/magnet key switch light green line = wire red line = magnet key switch trigger area black rectangle + scribbles = piston brownish = sponge with grab switch black circles = emitters When the sponge is grabbed, the top piston moves slowly (mess with the time setting) to the right, and moves the bottom connected piston to the right. When quickly grabbing the sponge, the bottom AND switch will activate and fire a paintball from the 1-shot emitter. When held, the top piston will extend completely to the right and activate the far magnet key switch causing the emitter to fire rockets while held down. Only draw back would be that no matter what, you get 1 paintball. | 2009-07-12 11:31:00 Author: Trap_T Posts: 431 |
Tell me about it! DCF, correct me if I'm wrong, but won't your solution always fire the paintball? Mistervista, isn't deadeye49 that 10 year old kid? That guy is scary Yep, it will fire the first paintball. If you look at old arcade games with this type of control they do too! Frankly, with LBP the most important thing is to minimize the delay between the grab and paintball. Any delay is highly noticeable. | 2009-07-12 14:53:00 Author: dcf Posts: 468 |
