Made a whole race where you can jump down to the front layer and just run to the end. I changed it but it was an awful level anyway...2009-07-10 13:00:00

most of the stupid things i do is when i overthink and make an extremely complicated system of switches for a certain thing, but then a few hours later i think of an extremely easy solution.

my most recent case of this was in my new level. i was making a hedge maze and i wanted your view to be blocked, so i made a large flat piece of black wood attached to a moving monster (just a brain and wheels) that would flee from you to keep your vision limited. however, once you reached the 1/2 way point, the monster couldn;t flee and you'd be blind until you found your way out by guessing (and only i knew the way out). in the end, i just placed a bunch of dissolve and sensor switches. it looked better and worked better, and it only took me 3 minutes to set up (compared to the 2 hours i wasted working on the moving wall)

Same here... why would anyone want that? ?,?

The stupidest thing I've ever done was build a machine like the elephant from the elephant temple, in story mode, and set up a long way filled with traps for it to go trough. You -obviusly- would die many times if, unlike me, you hadn't build it all, wich made me a professional at dodging them. Because of that, I failed to notice that an infinite checkpoint was completely necessary, and that I had absolutely no space for it, since it was a moving plataform and there was no way I could attach that checkpoint without it crashing on everything.

I spent like 2 whole days designing a functional way for the checkpoint to only appear when I wanted it to.

That was **** frustrating.

Probably when I made the collector boss super broken. It's so broken, it's hilarious. (it also sometimes kills itself)2009-07-11 19:57:00

Sometimes when I'm bored I just fill everything with tonnes of golf balls and then go out of hover mode and just fall down with them. It's really fun actually! For a second or two it's like time has stopped or something. It's like being in zero gravity!2009-07-11 20:28:00

Probably a logic mechanism that i thought would be awesome, took me 30 mins, then i realized it'd be the same if i were just to attach a piston to a 3-way switch....
<---- That was my reaction to it

Well.. not that it is the silliest thing but just a bit ago I couldn't for the life of me figure out why a control panel thing I had made kept nuking itself. Since I have it tucked into this one area, I just figured that I had it a bit tight and blew out due to pressure around it or something. I had pulled it out by itself to work on some other things and when play testing it was gone again by the time I got to that section.

Well.. I forgot that I had made most of it out of dissolve as I like how well it works with stickers and when I connected up the random blinky lights, I had actually connected one of the wires to the dissolve instead.

Whoops!

...that was when I knew it was time to take a break!!

I do quite a few dumb things in create. I've only just managed to convince myself that if I have a large object (like a big section of a level) I don't need a really big piece of dark matter to anchor it...

There was another one, but I forget what it was now, will post back when I remember.

I do this EVERY TIME I test a new concept or idea which contains a lot of logic (you know, the really annoying kind that you have to test over and over and over to tweak the timings and get it all working? Yeah that logic):
I build the logic and a mock up of the level, the mock up will never be seen it's just a couple of easy quick materials chucked together yet I still hide the logic as I would do in a normal level...off we go to test in play mode...ok it didn't work...and I hide the logic...I can't see what went wrong...back to create mode! Ok now put the logic where you can see it...back to play mode...test...tweak...
Normally that's the end of it but today I used the global lighting tool in my level that made it completely dark...put in the logic...hide the logic...test...what went wrong...can't see the logic...create mode...move the logic into the area...test...what went wrong...great can't see the logic because its DARK!
This went on and on...then I realized the problem was I didn't wire the switch to the dissolve...
I felt stupid...
