Morning RushRickTheRipper It's time to get up and head off to school. Hurry or else you'll be late! Explore your home, trespass on your neighbors lawn, and avoid the football team on your way to school! Good luck! all Images http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/jj69/RickTheRippa/APhoto_3.jpg http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/jj69/RickTheRippa/APhoto.jpg http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/jj69/RickTheRippa/APhoto_1.jpg http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/jj69/RickTheRippa/APhoto_2.jpg It's been awhile since I've played/created on LBP, but I've been getting that itch (no red bumps ) to create again. Since it's been so long, I tried to keep things simple, but also try to improve my visual work. The level isn't too long and it's fairly easy, but that doesn't mean it won't be fun! If you want me to give you feedback for your level, leave a link somehwere in your post and I'll get to it as soon as I can. | 2009-07-10 12:35:00 Author: RickTheRipper Posts: 345 |
I played this earlier with someone... can't remember his name though. This is a really cool level with a bit humor, secrets & other fun stuff. Pros: - the looks. Loved the grandpa! - moms cooking - secrets. Lots of 'em. - the humorous dialouge - the race - the hideout - the pie - the hedge labyrinth Cons: - maybe it's a little short All in all :star::star::star::star::star:, heart & forgotten tag | 2009-07-10 12:40:00 Author: blizzard_cool Posts: 752 |
I have to say I love levels that make me laugh, and you've got some good humour in there. A unique maze that works well, some nice little secrets, and simply a good story we can all follow. Possible things to improve: When you're in a race, it is annoying when you're forced to stand still to read dialogue due to the text being set to cutscene. I'm happy to read and run at the same time. Otherwise maybe a little more detail, stick a few leaves on trees maybe, stuff like that. Anyway, it's well made, and has great laughs. I gave it :star::star::star::star::star:, hearted it, and labled it as funky, plus added a short comment for you. Please leave feedback for one of the levels in my signature. Preferably the co-op moo one if possible, cheers! | 2009-07-10 14:06:00 Author: LieutenantFatman Posts: 465 |
I really enjoyed this level, lots of original ideas and funny dialogue, also the skeletons in the closet (that was pure GENIUS xD) and the grandpa! The grandpa! I fell in love with him xD Mom's cooking, that huge pill, the bullies' house on the tree, the maze and the football team, i don't know if i could ask more; maybe the level is a bit short, and if you have more ideas you have to be sure to put them in I can't say why, but i liked a lot more the beginning part over the race, i guess it's because its so full of humor The only thing i'd change is the key: dissolve it too when it's used Overall :star::star::star::star: and tagged fun For F4F please check my signature | 2009-07-10 21:40:00 Author: Shadowheaven Posts: 378 |
I've done some minor updates to the level. I removed most of the cutscenes during the race (treehouse still has cutscenes) and i made the closet key dissolve after being used. | 2009-07-11 02:23:00 Author: RickTheRipper Posts: 345 |
I have just finished your level and although not visually the best it still had alot going for it. I found the puzzles subtle but well placed, i enjoyed the part where mother had burnt the pancakes. And the morning sun at the beginning to be rather visually unique. The hardest part i found was the football field (and it is in fact the only place you can die) but i found it hard for the right reasons. The footballers seemed to change layers depending on which one i was standing on so it was never an easy waltz to the end. I think the only imprvements that could be done is perhaps improve on characters, but if this isnt your forte' then leaving as is has some charm. And possibly the maze you cant see your characters forehead so you know where he is perhaps. These are all minor things and to be honest wouldnt harm your level if you decided not to follow the advice ^^ :star::star::star::star::star: Nice one! thanks for the feedback, i appreciate it. for most of my characters, i place a bunch of stickers, make a person, and cut them out. this time, i wanted to make them by hand but give them abstract features (grandpa's head, gardeners hair/body shape), and it wasn't too bad. hopefully my next characters won't be so blocky. for the football field, i tried to make the players spawn at random instead of a pattern. and for the hedge maze, i made the walls as low as possible (barely cant jump over) and i tried to keep the camera focused on you so you couldn't see too far ahead. if more people think the camera needs to be tweaked, i'll see what i can do. also, if more people think i should add leaf stickers to the trees, i'll change that too | 2009-07-11 10:40:00 Author: RickTheRipper Posts: 345 |
I loved the level. It was funny as hell, pretty beautiful and fun to play, though I didn't like the labyrinth or the football field. I must say that I loved the treehouse and the humour (Ms. December lol) The looks of the level were good and they fit the atmosphere. I also liked the "window closing" part. It personalized (is that even a word? dunno) the level though it had no big part what so ever. Overall, the level was great. Not too hard but not too easy. I liked the little things of the level: the window closing, calendar and the sarcastic comments the sackboy said during the level (lock on own closet? am I an idiot) and the whole dialogue. I'll give the level 4 stars and one <3 | 2009-07-11 12:30:00 Author: Oerjeke Posts: 234 |
Just finished playing this and I had a great time with it! The story was hilarious and I loved how every single obstacle or puzzle fit within the theme. Visually, the level is a bit simplistic, but overall the style works well with the level. The character design was great, although the Grandpa freaked me out! My only trouble areas were the hedge maze and the football field and both deal with camera angles. Is it possible to have a better view of the maze? And with the football players, the camera changes about half way through and it becomes more difficult to determine which layer the football players are on. Overall, a very cute, hilarious, and fun level! Nice job! | 2009-07-11 14:04:00 Author: mrsupercomputer Posts: 1335 |
after i get some sleep, i'll go ahead and work on both of those cameras. altering the football field shouldn't be hard, but the hedge maze might prove more difficult. i'm also thinking of altering a certain piece of food that's hanging around in the neighborhood. edit: all 3 things mentioned above have beem tweaked. the hedge maze camera makes it more obvious which plane your on and it's easier to see yourself (camera angle is higher) | 2009-07-11 14:23:00 Author: RickTheRipper Posts: 345 |
Great level! Everything about the level was great, the visuals, the gameplay. The only thing is, I felt it could have been longer. The hedge maze was a fantastic idea, so was the area of getting through the football players. The humor was fantastic as well. The skeletons in the closet, giving a chill pill to grandpa, all were humorous. The only negative I saw was the length of the level, and although the visual were great, it still could have used a little bit more decor. Overall :star::star::star::star::star: and a heart. | 2009-07-12 03:38:00 Author: gersan93 Posts: 27 |
ya, i was disappointed in how short it was too. but because of how flat i made it and because of how much thermo the football players took up (about 20%), i couldn't keep it going. soon, im gonna make a pt. 2 that includes all the stuff i couldn't put in and more. for anyone that thinks it needs to look prettier, tell me where exactly i should improve it. i should be able to add almost anything, so feel free to make suggestions | 2009-07-12 06:03:00 Author: RickTheRipper Posts: 345 |
I like the feel of this one. The platforming elements are awesome. The grandpa, hedgerow maze and football players were awesome. I gave it :star::star::star::star::star: F4F:https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=p=237268&posted=1#post237268 | 2009-07-12 09:47:00 Author: MrTran Posts: 216 |
Great little level I enjoyed it - I would have liked it to go on a little longer... But I understand your thermo was creeping up... I liked how you added a few 'goodies' on the way like the closet and the clubhouse... maybe there were more..? Your maze idea was great and in race mode made you want to try and get through as quick as possible... talking of the race... I would have assumed the race was going to finish when you got into school..? how about the finish line just before the school building? I kept on grabbing the floor rather than you 'key' - I would have also streamlined the goal posts down too... they are quite blocky the way they are (imho) these things are by no means anything major - but if you were making an update, then something to consider changing It all looked great and all worked fine with no problems at all. and I liked your 'cheery' style throughout. :star::star::star::star: and tagged 'Satisfying' F4F: MitorATV https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=t=13394 | 2009-07-12 12:13:00 Author: stuk71 Posts: 86 |
thanks for the feedback. i agree that the race should end at the school, so i'll go ahead and change that. for the race gates, do you mean i should put them in the ground or put an object on the starting gate? i've updated it again. the race now ends at the stairs after the football field and the timer has been given an extra 50 seconds. also, the level icon has been changed and features grandpa in all his glory (he's in front of an explosion). | 2009-07-12 15:06:00 Author: RickTheRipper Posts: 345 |
I really liked this level, I had a lot of fun with it and even though your characters didn't really matter to the story, you still managed to give them a lot of personality. I loved the football field and the bully's clubhouse. I think my favourite part would have to be the hedge maze, that was absolutely fantastic! One thing bothered me about this level, and it's something almost everyone seems to do in all their levels. Just because sackboy is small, doesn't mean the whole level has to be way to big for him. I know he's meant to be a kid in this story, but even so it seemed a bit ridiculous that I couldn't even reach the seat of a chair unless it had fallen over. It's a bit late to fix a problem like that, you'd basically have to make the level over again, so this is more of a "maybe try this next time" than a "go back and fix it." :star::star::star::star::star: | 2009-07-12 18:44:00 Author: RadicalStan Posts: 99 |
Well, just played. It was great, not the best, but there's nothing really that I can actually say is wrong with it. 5 stars and hearted. | 2009-07-13 23:35:00 Author: RockSauron Posts: 10882 |
I really like this level! Has a nice cartoony style, some very creative uses of material. PROS: + Cute story + The race really set the pacing of the level - and the obstacles were nicely designed for speed. + Progression through the level was well done. + Loved the maze and the football segments - these parts created some innovative gameplay that didn't feel like anything else I had played. CONS - Near the end, a football player was emitted out of nowhere right into me. The football players probably should be emitted from above so no matter what you can avoid them. - In the maze if you were in the closest pane sometimes you couldn't see yourself, which made backtracking difficult. - Cut-scene cameras during the race - felt like it slowed me down. I felt it was a 4 star level (I gave it 5) + a heart. | 2009-07-14 04:39:00 Author: CCubbage Posts: 4430 |
for the hedge maze, i don't think there's anything else i can do with the camera. i'll try lowering the layer that blocks your view and see if that's better. for the football players, i'll make them spawn in the air (as long as they don't tip over). and i'll give another look at the remaining cutscenes, if i increase the radius, it should be fine edit: all the things i mentioned above have been tweaked. the hedge maze wall (nearest your tv) is lower, the football players spawn above the ground, and all cutscenes during the race have been removed. if there's anything else you guys think needs to be edited, let me know and i'll check it out | 2009-07-14 05:04:00 Author: RickTheRipper Posts: 345 |
This was a very fun level to play. I liked the house the best with the opening the window to get rid of the smoke and of course Grandpa...I am pretty sure he should just get his own level! Everything else was also very nice, the hedge maze gave me some trouble, but it was pretty cool. This was a solid level...the humor pushed it up to a level deserving of :star::star::star::star: | 2009-07-14 07:26:00 Author: Spider-Jew Posts: 1090 |
Overall I thought it was a near perfect level. I like the secrets (Mmm... Pie) and I thought the maze and the footballers were both very good ideas. The onle things wrong with it are the length and the decorations. They're good, but I feel they could be better. :star::star::star::star::star: and a big fat <3 | 2009-07-14 20:14:00 Author: resistance1 Posts: 812 |
Whoa, I played this and... I did really like it. I'd say, in advance, that I did give it 5 stars. The thing is that I came from playing community levels, and I was kinda upset because I didn't found a single good one. So it was an absoulte pleasure to play trough this. I really relaxed me, and I was more calm after it. So I'm thanking you for it. (thanks) Maybe wich I liked the most was the opening. It was so pretty, with that sun effect and all the morning feeling... man, I did love that. Note that I normally don't enjoy as much the openings as the rest of the levels, since I love action, but just in your case, I made the exception ^,^ So, I already said that I'm the action type, so I didn't really start enjoying the level until the race started. Sure, the house was good looking, and it kinda resembled a real house, and I think it was really well done, but normally I'm more on much more fantasy like stuff, meaning not that realistic. But that's just a personal opinion; when it comes to realism and design, your house did rock Aha! And the race starts! As pathetic as it sounds, I don't think I remember much of it >.< but then again, I don't even remember my own gender, so it's a problem of my tiny mmemory. What I DO remember is the bus fleeing from you, wich, I did really like. ****, for a moment I thought I was gonna catch it! Wich was also great was the bullies treehouse. Gimme score bubbles, gimme, I has hungry! The maze. Oh, the maze. Is there a word for loving and hating the same thing? Yes there is, and it's spelled "Wrutho" I did absolutely wrutho it. I mean, there were many times when I was stuck, and I just couldn't advanc forward! The thing is that the acmera was kind of awkard, so Icouldn't see much :/ But, anyways, I wruthed the whole thing, mostly because it make me nervous while putting adrenaline on my veins. I mean, holy wruthings, the time kept running I kept stuck! Bloody wruthos! Aha! Now something I id love. Those football players. Believe it or not, I did ace them at the very first try, and they were exactly the difficulty I would have liked them to be, altough I can imagine your ratings going down becaue many kids might not get trough that :/ Serioislu, I love plane shifting challenges, and that, along with the fact that the race timer kept running, did really make me have a great time. I think I made it to the scoreboard, by the way. And you sure did make it to mine too! All in all, great level, even if I would have liked that in some parts, there was moar challenge and less running around, but you already know that that's a personal preference | 2009-07-14 20:50:00 Author: Keldur Posts: 628 |
Sorry I've left the feedback so late, I wasn't able to get to my computer after I played it =( Allow me to say that I had a lot of fun with this level, the visuals were very detailed and, well, cute, and the design was very good. I also loved your sense of humour, especially in the bus section (I was thinking the exact same thing - heheheheh, what an eeejit! Then I realised it was aimed at me =( ). It was a strange experience as well, being in a setting which you can relate to and at the same time feel really small in it...Everything was huge in comparison to my sackperson! The halfbacks running at you during the drill was also a nice idea and worked well, rather tricky but still, it was fun. By the way, this goes to anyone, but am I the only Brit here who is a huge fan of American Football? Go Colts!! Overall, I gave :star::star::star::star::star:s and a heart, nice work! | 2009-07-19 21:10:00 Author: KoRnDawwg Posts: 1424 |
I was pleasantly surprised by this level... it was suburban and brief, and after the supercharged action epic that was Nuclear Nuisance I was expecting another one. Whenever I tried to make more real-life adventures, in a present/normal settings it seems to always end up shorter than normal too... but this level was a blast, and really memorable. It reminded me, for some reason, of Bart vs the Space Mutants - an old Simpsons game from back in the day, because you're platforming through your local neighborhood. I loved the humor, and granmpa as a character looked great (also hilarious) - loved his moving mouth and cartoon design. The appearance of Vega as a toy and on the wanter poster was AWESOME... the kitchen fire brought back memories lol and the out-of-the-box puzzle solution of opening a window was very creative. Getting left behind by the bus, and ridiculed was very entertaining, and also creative... I've seen people do school-bus segments, but this was actually well thought out, and actually gave the platforming parts of the level context. This story came out feeling like a Calvin and Hobbes story and I like that. Taking shortcuts through the neighborhood was a great way to set up vertical platforming - my only complaint is that there was no pin up girl on the wall in the tree house The garden maze was great - that reminds me of the electrified floor in Nuclear Nuisance that had red safe spots... I've still never seen anyone utilize all three planes this way, and still don't know how you work that camera angle so perfectly to your advantage in these sections. The football player segment was genius, and I know it must have killed your therm... especially without how detailed they are as NPC's (another one of your strong suits that carried over from your last level). This is an even better use of three planes, and easily the best execution of the "jump between obstacles" hazard that I've seen. Usually it's just colored gas/plasma, or some spiky whatever's... but again, this is well thought, perfectly in context, and shows a ton of care taken to try and make this setting and it's platforming obstacles as fully realized and in-context as possible. That's something I always look for, and something few people ever do. | 2009-07-19 21:50:00 Author: Unknown User |
im glad you both liked it, and korn, its all good. sometimes things happen and you gotta postpone some stuff. for the size, it kinda happened on accident. at first i wanted it to be normal-sized, but after i made the dresser, it was set in stone and everything was big. i shrunk things a bit outside of the house but you're still tiny in comparison. but just to sound awesome, im gonna say it was on purpose and its a metaphor. for what ninja said about keeping things in context, that's what i really wanted to do. i wanted everything to seem natural and not too farfetched. however, in the sequel, it's definitely going to get weirder. i had been playing disgaea 3 recently, so im trying to make the school whacky but nothing serious. i wouldn't mind keeping things based in pure reality, but for a school level, it'd be boring (at least w/ my ideas). so here's to hoping it all works | 2009-07-19 23:33:00 Author: RickTheRipper Posts: 345 |
