It seems to me that MM doesn't know how to use their own news system...

Archive: 19 posts

I mean, why is it that the last news update we had (which was a LONG time ago) was a level spotlight thing, when right below the news is a level spotlight spot? It just seems to me that they should be using the systems they've implemented correctly, or not at all... I mean, the featured creators are just MM staff that mostly don't even have anything published... And I'm kinda sick of them telling me that First Steps is a great level...

Note how I cleverly didn't mention the Play Create Share counters... Oh, crap, I just did.

I'm pretty sure I used to have a whole lot of play create share... stuff when the game first came out. Don't remember for sure and don't exactly know how I got it, but they all say zero now. I would very much like it if they would start using all that stuff more often it could really help good levels get mentioned. It could be a great little community builder!2009-07-09 20:57:00

Your referring to the news section in the game on the left planet right? Yea, that's always bugged me too. Last one I saw was the survival challenge levels they were showcasing. It's a shame they don't update it regularly. It would be a really handy way to show off cool levels (besides the actual cool pages)

Do they not have the manpower to keep it current or is it just being neglected?

Its one part of the game Mm have neglected. Personally I'd rather they gave us DLC and bug fixing patches but once in a while, a nice update would be good.2009-07-09 21:19:00

someone should email them or post on their site asking what the problem is. if they don't have enough staff, they can hire me to be the news-guy. i'll be sure to flood it w/ h4h and anti-h4h levels2009-07-09 22:58:00

Yes, the lack of news is super annoying...I doubt at this point anyone even bothers to check it. When the LBP Golf challenge was announced and my entry had less than 100 plays after a week I e-mailed MM pleading that they mention the challenge the news section (I knew it wouldn't do any good, but it made me feel better...I should have just come here!). It's such a shame that the news page isn't put to good use.2009-07-09 23:23:00

When i first got LBP i remember them updating the news quite often, but then they just stopped completly

And i think they're getting rid of the PCS scores soon

Yeah it really is a shame they don't update it.
I'm thinking it might be possible that the reason they don't update it is because not many people checked it in the first place. It's not exactly in the most obvious spot.
If that's the case, hopefully they're working on something to improve the news system, like... hmm... the WEB PORTAL???

Keyword is right there.
In my head I picture the MM office like a party house. It's basically a bunch cool and intelligent people partying in some building. They have alot of great ideas, sort of put them together between 2 joints and quite accidently dropped a game on shelve for PS3. Now they chill and slowly update the thing between pinacoladas and the next great TV show.
But in all this really cool and good intentioned party, they seem to have lost the meaning of what their product is supposed to have. They sort of forgot some features and bugs and they will fix that in between the thousands of projects they start everyday.

The thing that bugs me most about the PCS counters is how simple it'd be to implement. I'm not quite sure how it worked (didn't get in the beta) but isn't it just a point for playing a level, or a point for commenting, tagging, publishing, getting plays/hearts etc. etc. ?

I mean how hard would that be to program?

I was thinking they should explain some new features in the news section, for example the music player or the fact you can turn Sackboy around when placing stickers on him. These aren't explained anywhere in the game and i'm sure there's still players out there who havn't noticed these features or how to use them yet.2009-07-10 11:11:00

I had no idea... how triggers? D-pad? knew it was supposed to be easier, just never knew how? The stickers seem to cover better...

To me this is unbelievable. Everyday, I read something here, posted by someone, that just is astonishing...

I honestly believe Mm is closing in on doing as much wrong as they've done right... Focus first and foremost should always be on the game, its mechanics and increasing its longevity through improving these and introducing further character enhancements... Their second responsibility is to the community; open-communication, making quality accessible for all gadders. I am an active member of a forum dedicated to this game, I read the book that accompanied it from cover to cover... and yet, I didn't know I can sticker the blankety-blank-blank back of my head? What else does a user have to do in your World Mm? If I don't know... what chance does a casual player ever have of understanding how deep this game could be? Take off the derbys and wigs, stop congratulating yourselves, and run your business with some semblance of adult supervision... before it all vanishes and we've got some other lesser inferior game as the poster child for Play Create Share.

Ya know to be truthful, I love LBP but am beginning to tire of the good ol' times over at Mm.com that is shoved in my face on a daily basis... it's all just a bit much... I mean beyond the hype and the stickers the game really hasn't evolved since MGS pack. Creating really isn't that easy. There's a lot that could be done to simplify the logic... Perhaps I should've tried to get involved with the BETA to distract me... I find good levels that I really enjoy playing to be pretty few and far between. Sooner or later at this rate, LBP is gonna graduate from Wunder-Kind to dull platformer... because let's not forget... if creativity isn't fostered, that's what you got at the heart of all this... a kinda 3d platformer (a genre that went dormant ... I might remind you before LBP reinvention of it.) Mm really doesn't seem like they really have a grasp on what will keep LBP a viable commodity. I'm sick of the teasers, hats, wigs, and the stickers... I'm tired of OUR homepage being Mm central. I know alot of people are hyped about the web portal, but to be honest... I'm not sure... I don't get it. Exactly how will this make my playing experince better?

What I do get, and a lot of is; long load-times, lag, spam, and levels devoid of creativity...

In fact, why is Jon Burgerman making a sticker pack? Why isn't this Mm hand-picked artist Mmaking level packs? with the stickers inside? Answer: Because it's not that simple and easy.

It never is... not even this post is simple and easy... I just really feel for me as if things are starting to veer off-course.

EDIT:Well, I'm a little less ornery now that I got some coffee in my system... while i'm not not taking it back, I probably wouldn't have written this the same way either... Just goes to show, you take the ornery-out... but your still left with an old man who all to often feels like a young fool.

Mm probably do know how to use the news page, but it's just a neglected part of the game. I too would like to see it being updated frequently, but it could be that Mm just doesn't have the time or the workforce to do that.

Although really they should be working on DLC. And by that I don't mean sticker packs and costumes that Mm hype up with several teasers for each one, I mean level packs like the MGS pack.

MM should stop partying and get some bug fix's first then take a bit of a brake...

Its coool there having fun and working hard but they need to work a bit harder and not to party as much.
Sure when there done they could have a wig night or a night at the pub.

How do you know how hard they're working? It doesn't take long to put on a wig and take a picture. They're not supposed to be working 20 hours a day either...2009-07-10 22:43:00
