Filling up a forest.

Archive: 6 posts

In my current level project, I have a small stretch of forest that currently looks rather, well, barren. Besides of course trees (which I could use tips on making), what can I do to make my forest seem a little more full?2009-07-09 02:04:00

There are other elements that you could add

Think of what else you'd find in a forest.
Bushes, animals, plants, rocks etc. Maybe even play around with the lighting a little bit

If you're having trouble visualizing a forest, maybe search for some images on the internet to get some inspiration!

You could put in bushes, shrubs, flowers, rocks, creatures, water, mushrooms, lights etc...mix and match for your own level's style.
As forf gameplay...multiplayer sections or hidden pathways/secret extras. Just a couple of ideas.

The best way to fill it up is to animate it. Make moving animals, try to simulate wind, add sound even. All of those things will make it feel more detailed and polished.2009-07-09 02:46:00

There can't be any animals, the forest is part of cursed land in the level. Also, it's a wintery place. Sorry I didn't mention that before, I don't know why I didn't.2009-07-09 02:50:00

Ok, I hate self promoting, but check out:
Nature Tech Demo
PSN: LuckyShot

There's some snow and lightening and forest lighting effects given away. I'm not saying use em, but at least see if it's something you like and then make something on your own based on it.
