Making Good Stickers

Archive: 7 posts

How do you make "good" stickers? I noticed when I collect random community stickers, whether it be costume or just overall useful ones, they're different from mine.

When I create an object and take a picture of it, the colors are "faded" when compared to others. Why is this, and can I prevent it?

I want some nice solid, good-looking colors in my stickers, but for some reason I can't produce this effect. Anyone help?

Make sure the level lighting is as bright as possible with no fog and take your pictures in front view to eliminate shadows.

Beware though that when you take a picture of a colour it always comes out slightly darker than the original.

I don't know if positioning some spotlights out of view but shining on the object would help. I haven't actually tried that myself because they've usually been good enough for what I want.

Hope that helps anyway.

First of all, you will NEVER get the sticker quality you have with original stickers. When you take a picture, it is compressed ALOT and it will always look somehow bad.

If you want to maximise your quality though, put the plain background behind your thing because taking a picture of it. All other background have certain lighting settings and when you take a picture of your object, that lighting will affect your picture.

In short, if there's some yellow added to things when the Africa background is in use, this means your picture will have this yellow lighting + it will be affected by another coating of that yellow if you use it in the Africa background after.

Hi Johnny Pteran.

Referencing mistervista's comment about using spotlights: Using your own lighting techniques will work (LEDs, spotlights, etc.). This is how I create my custom stickers for use in my levels. Granted, you are limited in the available colors of the lights, but you can vary the intensities of several lights, to produce additional color variations.

And, as RangerZero stated, make sure you don't have a Background Theme loaded. I somtimes use the plain blue wood (which is smooth), stickered in a complimentary color, behind an object I am taking the photo of. You can play with the sticker colors, to see which one works best. And if the standard sticker colors don't work as a background color, you can also use specific areas of the 2D stickers, which are in your popit. I just expand these so the color I want from the 2D sticker covers the area behind the object.

Sometimes I play for hours doing this, just to see what I can come up with.

Hope this also helps.

A great sticker goes a LOOOOONG way! All these tips are spot on and the best advice you can get.... especially using the plain BG to take your pics. Also... not mentioned so far is to make your object you are taking the photo of very large so you can get crisper lines once you shrink it down to stickering size.

EDIT: Laughs at Ranger down below.

Another tip I just thought of.

It's always better to take your picture as huge as you can. This is because whatever the size your sticker is, the picture will be the same size. Downscaling looks better than upscaling.

EDIT: oh well, I was beaten to by the old rusty bucket up there. Didn't see that
