From A to B...from B to C

Archive: 12 posts

Hi guys, again I ask for your kind help.
In my level there should be a big ****** that moves from point A to point B, then the sackboy enter in his ***** and the ****** has to move until point C.
Now I made him move from point A to B with a contraption lead by a loose piston that pulls a glass wheel with chains, strings and staffs on a glass rail.
Basically a proximity switch should trigger the movement from point B to C.
How can I do it?

PS I'm not making an "adult only"/Rated R/hard/xxx level, I only don't want to spoil the level:blush:

OMG I opened the thread in the wrong section.
I'm ashamed, can someone please move this to the help section.
I'm sorry

i'm kind of confused by your description, tell me if i've got it right.

you have a vehicle of sorts, which sacky rides in. the vehicle moves from point A to B on its own, but at point B, sacky should get in, and be able to drive it to point C?

sounds to me that you could use an OR gate, with one input being a proximity or grab switch (which sacky triggers from point B to C) and the other input being a permanant on switch which turns off when the vehicle reaches point B (easily accomplished by a key on the vehicle and a switch at point B)

Yes, you got the point.
How can I do a Logic OR gate?

OK, if you odn't know how to make an OR gate, I'm guessing you don't know how to make logic at all. I'd recommend DCF's boss AI tutorial and incinerator22's logic level (can't remember the name off hand, something about logic or switches for beginners and experts - just search his PSN).

I would explain the gates to you, but they are so much easier to understand "in action", so have a look at those levels, get your head around the basic concepts, then post back here and I'll help you put something together.

I know the basics of logic but still can't figure out how to apply it with LBP switches.
I try to figure it out now, while I am at work... ^_^

Does a magnetic switch work with to keys?
I ask cause I never tested it and can't test it now.

A mag switch will work with two keys. All it does is detect if there is a key of the right colour within its trigger area. So whether there are 1, 2, or many keys it will still activate.

The tutorials I posted have collectable prizes with example gates in them. A simple OR gate is constructed from 2 pistons set up in such a way that if one of them is extended, using a directional input, a key will come into the range of a switch. Typically the switch will be on the end of one piston and the key on the other.

An AND can be constructed in a similar way, but reduce the radius on the switch, so that both pistons have to be extended.

Just remember to use directional inputs

I have to see your stuff, but I don't have a broad band connection at home, so I have to bring my PS3 to work, and I usually do it only when I have to dl LBP DLCs, so, since this week we haven't got any...I have to wait until next week.
Thanks again.

well, in that case, let me try to help you figure out how to make a logic gate

Of course, you can build them in many different ways, and RTMs is probably the best i've seen so far, as his require the least amount of moving parts- but mine will get you going so you can start working at least.

The purpose of an OR gate (of course) is to provide a similar output based on two or more inputs. The easiest way to do this is by using magnetic key switches, with the key switch being connected to the outputs (in this case, your car moving). By using more than one key to trigger the same mag switch, you can have multiple inputs trigger the same output. All you need to do to make an OR switch is to make these keys capable of moving in and out of the keys radius in a controlled manner. This is easiest accomplished with stiff pistons (though wobble bolts can be more reliable timing wise, its not really important here) holding up material with the key attatched. setting the trigger switches (the inputs) to directional, and attatching them to the pistons, makes it so that when the inputs are not triggered, the keys remain out of range, and no output is triggered. When the input is triggered, the piston shoots outward, moving the key within range, and triggering the key switch and respective output.

hopefully that helps... it sounds a little overanalytical to me lol, so maybe it doesn't =/

Thanks a lot Burn, yesterday evening I tried something but it didn't work, so I came out with another idea that has a more "scenic" appeal but doesn't work as I hoped.
This evening I'll try what you said.

The significant point is to use directional inputs. Burnvictim did say it, but it's probably worth emphasising 2009-07-09 11:00:00

yes, directional allows complete control over the action, on/off would make the switch act funny 2009-07-10 05:25:00
