Anyone ever had the problem that your like 98% complete with a big level that you have worked hard on, then cant seem to wrap up the level like you want to or you cant find the right words or anything?
Iv been working on a level for months now, and am soooo close to being done, like literally at the exit, and cant think of how to wrap up the level well enough to be up there with my standards.

Almost with every level tbh, I never plan ahead.

The one I'm making currently has been the worst though, I've not added anything new for about 3 weeks. I log in, stare at the screen for a while, then end up tinkering with the earlier parts of the level.

I'm currently in the position kiminski is in.

Pyrimidhead: Get people playing beta, explain the situation and specifically ask them for ideas on the ending. A fresh perspective could be all it takes. If you are that close to finishing, beta testers will be invaluable anyway.

Also, is there any need for such a vague thread title? Just something that always bugs me. Sorry.

Well that's your question right there.

But in all seriousness, this happens to me with all of my projects. I just never know how to make something end, to bring it all to a close. I look at other unique levels or levels somewhat like my own for inspirations and I try to base my ideas off that, and then of course give credit to them for it.

It's called writers block.... authors have been dealing with this for years. I've had 4 GREAT authors mention to me they hit this wall in the last several months.

My suggestion for future projects that might help:

Write up a story board from beginning to end that tells your story. This may change slightly as you build the level, but having a beginning, a middle, and an ending in mind helps stay focused on a direction especially if your telling a story. I read an interview with Geosautus where he said most of his levels didn't really tell a story, so in this case it probably wouldn't be as important.

Took me ages to get the ending to Eddy Mitter right. I changed the dialogue so often that I was in danger of missing my own joke.

I eventually just broke the whole story down into simple terms and asked myself what each character would have to say about it, and it came to me there and then.

I've had the same issue lately.. What has helped me is some mindless pencil sketching on silly little concepts and attempting the best ones in a seperate workshop level.

...for me, basically take a break.. sometimes not thinking about it at all helps more than trying to too hard to come up with something.
