Remove the Electrolyzed Blue color

Archive: 10 posts

I wanted to electrolyze some stuff for the traps I'm making, but when I do that (as with all stuff I electrolyze) it makes the material appear blue. Is there a way to remove that blueness and maintain the original look of the material?2009-07-04 21:15:00

the only way to lessen the Blue glow, is to have the lighting very bright around the electrolized material, that's the only way - so if you're all about having a dark ambience, there's really no way to keep it from being blue.

Another option - and this is just a thought, not tested or anything... But maybe make the material electric, then surround it in a VERY thin layer of the same type of material - NOTE this won't work with grabbable, or rubber, or dark matter since they go invisible at such thin layers. But a while ago I noticed I could get electricuted standing on non electric material when there was electric material JUST underneath it.

Wait, i thought it was Electrified not electrolized (didn't even know that was a word )

Well, anywho, depending on the material you coul also experiment with stickers to try to change the color.
I think glass is the easiest to alter.

Uh, yeah I guess it is Electrify lol

Anyway, I'll play around with the glass and stickers and see how that works. Lighting around my object is something I should play around with as well, although I'm trying to make my level a little dark. I'll see what happens.

LuckyShot, you mentioned covering the material with a very thin layer of the same material. Well, if I did that, then the player wouldn't die if he hit my trap right? Or do the sparks still go through? The object I'm electrifying is a crescent moon, so I can at least put up some covering in front of it. Hmmmm, I'll have to try this out.

Thanks!

Do what this says, but maybe try it reversed too. Surround your object with thin, invisible pieces pieces that are electrified. You just have toe electrify them before shrinking them or cutting them to an invisible width. Any switches need to be attached or connected before shrinking as well.

Only problem will be actually knowing that it's electrified - the player won't see the blue OR the electric charge. If it HAS to be seen, then I would recommend using glass for the thin pieces, but not invisible width... just as close as possible. That should give you the charge, a minimal glow, and still allow the objects base texture and color attributes to be seen.

...and yes, you can usually contact hazards through very thin layers anyway.

You could put a thin layer of the material in front/ Sacky wouldn't be able to stand on it and the electric material would be covered.2009-07-05 13:35:00

Just to note, electrolyzed is not a word. It's electrified. Sorry, had to say it >_<

And what I would suggest to you is to do this...

First, make three (or more/less) platforms made of wood and arrange them the way you want. The must be as thin as you can make them. For example:

|........|
|........|
|_____|

. = empty space
| and _ = platforms

The lines represent the three different platforms. Then glue them together, electrify, and position in front of the object you want to seem "lethal". The wooden platforms should still be visible.

t |........| t
t |........| t
t |........| t
t |_____| t
ttttttttttttt

t = trap

Now once you have positioned them around your seemingly lethal object, get out the material changer and change it to dark matter or rubber. Make sure that you make the three platforms separately and not out of dark matter to begin with.

Making the object plasma might work as another alternative if you use the plasma glitch, or make it out of pre-plasma'd material.2009-07-05 18:03:00

Actually guys, to electrolyse / electrolyze (depending on where you live) is a verb meaning to perfom electrolysis. So it is a word, just not the right word

I think ninja's idea of thin, yet visible pieces of electrified material is the best, it allows you to mostly keep your aesthetic, but doesn't give and invisible hazard - which is kind of mean on the player IMO.

Yep, Ninja's idea is the best.
