Is it possible to stay in Grid mode?

Archive: 9 posts

Well, I really like using the grids, but is it possible to stay there without having to switch out?

Right now the real reason why I have to exit out of grid mode is if I want to carry an object over to something and glue it down. The grid will let me move the object close to the thing I want to glue it to, but I can't actually move it to the point of connecting.

I would say that grid mode has it's uses, but is not meant for everything. I don't think it's practical to stay in it all the time. I know I never can.2009-07-04 16:11:00

I turn it on and off loads, sure it would be nice to have a toggle button instead of having to go to the pause menu but meh...what you going to do?2009-07-04 16:22:00

I would LOVE a toggle of some sort.. but yeah, I use it quite a bit just not all the time. Grid and non grid both have their uses.

I use grid mode most the time, pretty much all of my pieces are grid aligned so they just slot together - you'd be suprised how unblocky you can make things like this.

I think it's deliberate that you cant press items that aren't grid-aligned together, it kind of destroys the point. A toggle would certainly be nice but when you get used to swapping constantly it only takes a couple of seconds.

Oh alright then. No grid does have its uses, but I just like to now avoid it since it throws off my proportions. I'll just be more careful from now on.

Thanks!

The biggest problem I run into with Grid mode (and I, like others, am switching back and forth all the time) is when you mix non-grid elements with a a grid-based structure, then move any (or all of it). The grid-based portions may or may not continue to be aligned to the grid (usually not). So now if you want to edit or add more grid-based stuff, it just doesn't line up.

It's a fairly minor gripe, but it has bitten me more than once.

Yeah that's a bummer, but my solution for this has always been to create huge dark matter walls and floors with the big grid to push objects up against and level them flat, even if it's doing that. Still have to nudge it ever so slightly without the grid though, and try not to rotate it at all.

Everything works well together in conjunction as long as you get used to switching between them like adlingtont said.

Vortex, if you are talking about a small(ish) object where you add non-grid-aligned portions and so the overall selection is not grid aligned then I just add a couple of grid aligned squares around it in the corners, move it and then delete those squares.

If you are talking about something else then just ignore me
