Turrotolia ~Pictures inside!~

My newest level is here. Its called "Turrotolia". This level is designed for ONE PLAYER ONLY. Sorry, but otherwise various lighting effect and camera angles are ruined. It could work with more than one person, if you stay really, really, close together at all times.

Young sackboy decided one day to go for a walk into the forest, in the forest he met an Ancient of Turrotolia sent to find him. To Ancient tells sackboy to save Turrotolia from a threat that is draining the land of life, the Arakni Spiders. Sackboy must cross infiltrate thier lair and take out the Queen to end the threat.

Search my name, King_Tubb, and it should be close to my avatar, in North Africa

The level isn't daunting in my opinion, but i recommend you have dimmed lights so you can see some parts, and no i won't brighten them because it would completly destroy the atmosphere

Things to Edit based on reviews

More stickers - Could be used to amp-up various parts

http://i661.photobucket.com/albums/uu340/King_Tubb/APhoto_9.jpgAhh! The Queen Again

The Queen Arakni has two attack, Vemon Spit and Earthquake Stomp. Vemon Spit is just a shot attack. Earthquake stomp is my favorite, because the Queen actually stomps and causes rocks to fall and take out sackboy.

Both attacks have been create using a technique that i devised myself, I dont know if it has been used before, its a thin layer with gas attached on the back, it works well for my boss, check it out for yourself.

The extra part to notice it how the Queen feet always both return to the standing position when she is not using Earthquake Stomp because the stomps uses alternating leg movements, ill give you info on how to do this if you ask. To fully see this part in action, play the level.

Ill only give F4F if you leave good feedback and not just "Great level, play mine, ok bye"

F4F List

Pitcard - (Still to be told which level wanted for the review)
Night Angel - (Still to be told which level wanted for the review)
NinjaMicWZ - (Still to be told which level wanted for the review)
Coxy224 - Halloween Town (Im assuming, because its new)

Ok this is a bump post because this thread went through about 20 pages without even having someone atleast say "Great, its a level, want a cookie?"

I have added a title introduction, like the ones Wexfordian uses for his levels

I also fixed my swamp monster so that it doesn't look like something out of Yoshi's Story (even though Yoshi's Story is awesome)

I'm liking the visual design from the screenshots. I'll play it next time I'm on. And try my best to give you some feedb4x!

My levels are old... if you wanna play any of them go ahead, but no need for feedback

From the screenshots, it seems like it needs a little more decorations/stickers/other aesthetics. Leaves could probably work wonders in this level. I'll play it later, though and give you my feedback.2009-07-25 03:02:00

This is a good level... the looks aren't mindblowing detailed, but it's consistent and has a solid look that reminds me of those Dinosaur Island levels... which makes it feel fun, friendly, and open and probably allowed you to fit in alot more. The swinging sections are really nice, like the vine (very good vine btw), and the spider web sponges. The spiders are pretty well done with their multi joint movements... the attacks on the queen are tight too, with the way she pounds the ground, nice shaping.

A good story set up for motivation... the opening sequence looked great with the house, and the talking trees. Pretty solid platformer overall.

Hey,
i agree that some of your characters could do with more detail BUT saying that your spiders moevement is very well done. espicially the queen empress.
That boss fights very good i espicially liked the green spit she does and how it's not just a drop but it looks like a splatter of spit.

The trees do look a little flat maybe some leaves on it wouldnt go a miss?

But as the level goes it was pretty well done.
the use of sound effects works retty well.

Overall i gave it a :star::star::star::star:

And it deserves it. it should definetly get more coverage than it's getting.

You could try out The Artists World for F4F if you would be so kind. ^^

Thanks and good luck with yours.

Ok, a very enjoyable level you've got here. I love the spiders and think they're very well made. The movement of them is spot on and their attacks are beautifully thought out and well executed. I really like the fact that they're beatable - but still pose some challenge.
I was very impressed with the boss, but the first time I ran up to it, the paintinator wasn't visible so I ended up dying before I could tell what to do. I think it may have been better to have them there the whole time.
Overall though this is a very enjoyable level - 4 stars for you and a "cute" tag

Thanks Pitcard, ill still give your levels some plays and feedback.

Thanks Night Angel, appreciate the advice. Well there?s plenty of thermometer left (about 3-4 blocks) to add decorations, ill see what I can do.

Thanks Ninja. My friends don't like the spider web, they think it looks like marshmallows on strings. Just with that comment I plan on fixing that. Similar to what I told Night Angel, I got some thermometer, ill throw in more detail until it maxes out

Thanks Coxy224. Yea, I have the paintinator spawn after you talk to the queen, otherwise you can kill her before her ?Earthquake? attack even takes effect. Ill add some direction there, maybe too little red arrows that emit and disappear just to warn you and tell you to run and grab a weapon.

Hello King_Tubb!
Well, I finally got back to try your level again, at least this time I passed it.

I saw you added a beginning to it, not bad, but the camera is a little jarring once it got up to the house. I'm not sure if you could even fix something like that, just a comment.

I found one glitch at the very beginning. I don't really know why, but if you jump into the tree, and die/squish at the landing down below, the lighting never regains itself,it stays pitch black in there. I restarted the game and I was able to see. It's quite lovely when you can see it! Granted, when I first played it I tried doing it in the pitch black stage, using a red sticker to see what was going on. It kind of sucked, but now that I know it can work properly, you just can't die before you enter the underground.

After killing the little baby spiders, the mouth activated in the middle of a jump and killed me rather than me being closer to it before it spoke.

The web jungle gym was cool, since I finally got to see what it really looked like! Fun to play on too. Should have had it bigger and maybe with some prize bubble to go fetch! But it still is cool either way!

Now Big Momma! She was cool, but killing her... was harder than expected. It was more on chance and less skill. Those rocks fell so fast and at random, it was hard to calculate if you could avoid them... me... I just died like 15 times before I could get one shoot off! LOL! But eventually I killed her.

I gave you 4 out of 5 stars, due to the glitch at the beginning. I know it's officially not your fault, but it is a draw back. Over all the rest of the scene was beautiful! Nice story, and challenging. I'm just glad it's not suppose to be pitch black! Good job!

Hello there King_Tubb!

I will be reviewing your level today

Gameplay: I absolutely loved it! I liked how you made the baby spiders come down back and forth like that. I loved the creatures, but there weren't enough. There were 2 fights that were with spiders: the first, mini one, where you had to kill multiple spiders, and then the boss. It could've had little, mini monsters that you had to deal with on your way, like tiny black widows that you have to stomp on or something. That would be good, to keep players busy as they run along into the web of spiders ahead of them. The obstacles you had to get over would have been a little bit more challenging, but they were perfect the way they were.

Decoration/looks/presentation: This was terrific! Great title sequence, nicely drawn letters! I loved how the spiders looked. The 6 legs was very original (can you tell me why they had six legs?). The grass and sky and everything was beautiful, it was a great trip. I like how you transferred from green, bright, and happy to dark, sad, and depressing, like the spider's lair. Both of the environments were wonderful, couldn't get enough of it. The webs looked rgeat too. However, I noticed that in the Mother's lair there was only 1 material used, and that was the rocky one. I guess its okay for the lair, but try to vary the materials, be creative with it. Throw some sponge in there, put a brown sticker on it, add some black spots and call it mud . But other than that, this was a great part.

Music/sound: I have no complaints on this one, the music was all perfect. Could've added a bit more sounds though.

Creativity/Idea: Loved the creativity. The name is terrific too (did you get that from somewhere, or did you just make it up?). There could have been more kinds of spiders, like on the mini-fight before the boss, some spiders could throw spit and some could some down and attack. I liked the idea, very original

Emotion: SPOILERS HERE! DONT LOOK IF YOU HAVEN'T PLAYED THE LEVEL! Sackboy started out, happy, in his home, you even made him say that it was a beautiful day (awesome work on that, it kind of brings up a personality on Sackboy ). But then, he was confused. Why did he ghet transported down there? Then he was afraid! What the heck was with all the spiders?! I loved the emotion, way to add some depth to the environments

Boss Fights, if any: Great boss fight, nicely done, but when the spider spits, the spit could have been smaller. I found myself dying when she was at her vulnerable point many times. Other than that, the earthquake idea was great, nicely done

Overall: Very nicely done level. It got a little bit boring at times, but other than that, great story, great decoration, great looks, great imagery.

:star::star::star::star:

I rated this level 4 stars and tagged nothing (dont worry, don't be offended by that, I'm often too lazy to tag.) and hearted you and your level. Have a great time in LBP and good luck with your levels! ^_^

Hey!
First off I want to thank you for reviewing my level.
I gotta say, your level was pretty good! great job. My favorite part was the spider webs and the vine (which gave me an idea for my next level... I'll keep u posted)
The overall atmosphere was very friendly and fun. I do have to say that I did find the level kinda "flat". I think you should add a little more details to the backgrounds and foregrounds. If on your next level you use the back "skinny" layer to make some mountains or something, and the front layer to do some flat trees or other details, it would be perfect.

Oh, and also great job with the spiders! specially the queen.
Keep up the good work.

Thanks MaximovSephiroth for the review! I know how to fix that glitch, it has happened to me a few times as well. Just gotta move some stuff away from the landing spot.
I don't plan on fixing that mouth because most people won?t know what to do after they kill the spiders, the mouth shows them the way out.
Based on other review I plan on adding to the web, maybe add some baddies and points.
For the boss youre not suppose to attack while the rocks are falling, but instead run to the paintinator because they are safe spots. You strike while she is spitting vemon because you can switch between the two safe spot and attack her on the way there. Although you can kill her as soon as the rocks stop falling for the first time, because there are spots where she doesn?t spit vemon, but you can still reach her from.

Wow! Awesome review, never seen that much reviewing for a level
Based on other people?s review I plan to add spider baddies on the web and maybe some points and prizes.
The reason why the spiders only had 6 legs was because I wanted to keep within only 2 layers and putting the 7th and 8th legs on the top made them look a little dumb.
I came up with Turrotolia, well actually I don't quite remember because I created the name when I first started I believe it had to do with turtles because I like turtles
Weaken the boss isn?t a problem, but I fear the weaker it gets the lamer it gets, but ill bring it down a bit.
Thanks for the review, appreciate ti

I see how you find it a bit flat, ill see what I can do there, there likes 4 thermo blocks left so I can do some tweaking and adding to amp-up the excitement.
