Super Ghost! [Awesome new game]

Archive: 144 posts

Well some of you may have heard of ghost, which is a game whereby people take it in turns to add a new letter onto a string, with the aim of NOT being the person to make a word.

EG:

L
LE
LEP
LEPE
LEPER

Leper is a word, so even if they had another word further on the line, they lose!

SO

This is SUPER ghost!

Instead of one long string, we have a bundle of letters, so, if we take the game

L
LE
LEP
LEPE
LEPER

It is actually the FOURTH person who lost!

Why?

Because it is if there is an ANAGRAM to be made, one word only, then the game is lost.

So, here are the main rules:

1) Add a letter to the pot. Simply stick it to the end.

2) YOU MUST BE ABLE TO MAKE A WORD IN THE FUTURE. So you can't have gmxgpsw, and add a z, because no word has those letters in...

3) If you catch someone out as making an anagram, say so in your post and start a new pot

4) Try not to add a letter so that it makes a string of letters that can be rearranged to form one word.

GO!

edit

MORE RULES

THE LETTERS IN THE STRING HAVE TO BUILD TOWARDS A WORD

EG

BULMA cannot have an X added to it, because no word has those letters, except for Lumbax, which is a brand, which is NOT ALLOWED

However, a J would've been acceptable (ignoring album) for "lumberjack": see how it has to build for a word?

IF YOU THINK NO FUTURE WORD CAN BE MADE, YOU CAN CHALLENGE THE LAST PERSON'S ADDITION. XKCDGFIGH? DON'T THINK A WORD CAN BE MADE? CHALLENGE IT.

THE ANAGRAM HAS TO BE ONE WORD. Two or one letter words don't count.

EDIT2

FALSE CHALLENGES

If someone challenges someone saying that there is an anagram in their word, it should NEVER be false, because you can check it before hand.

For challenges about there /not/ being a word to be made, continue with a new string (posted alongside the challenge) regardless, but point out the word that could've been made (losing a challenge is equivalent to making a word by accident).

The pot:

STOP

Just going to clear some things up

THE LETTERS IN THE STRING HAVE TO BUILD TOWARDS A WORD

This was explained in the OP, Pitcard

BULMA cannot have an X added to it, because no word has those letters, except for Lumbax, which is a brand, which is NOT ALLOWED

However, a J would've been acceptable (ignoring album) for "lumberjack" see how it has to build for a word?

IF YOU THINK NO FUTURE WORD CAN BE MADE, YOU CAN CHALLENGE THE LAST PERSON'S ADDITION. XKCDGFIGH? DON'T THINK A WORD CAN BE MADE? CHALLENGE IT.

THE ANAGRAM HAS TO BE ONE WORD, AS MENTIONED IN OP. Two or one letter words don't count.

I think I covered everything?

I'm off to bed now.

I CALL A CHALLENGE ON PITCARD! IF I'M RIGHT, CONTINUE WITH:

Also, not sure how you carry on after an incorrect challenge (leaving tribal aside for a moment). If my future word had only had one more letter in it and an incorrect challenge made me continue with it, then I would have lost -which does not seem fair. Any views?

You have to use all the letters if I remember correctly, so you aren't right.

I'm not sure what to do, considering we haven't established what a false challenge does.

With clurtnas, I was going for nocturnal, but you added an "s", so I have no idea what word you could be going for.

I guess I'll just continue with "U" then.

Still can't believe we had two different words...

@Pitcard

For one thing, it's recognised by the on-site dictionary, which doesn't even have the word online in it! Try it: Type uninclination, and check if there's a red line. The logic behind the word seems fine to me, too. If you are inclined to do something, you have an inclination towards it. Ergo, if you are uninclined to do something, you have an uninclination.

I hope you were working towards malpractices, because I ruined that one.

Not at all.

SCPLTERCAAYLN

Phew. I thought I would have to lose that. :hero:

UNSPECTACULARLY

I can see your dilemma as by finishing the word you automatically make an anagram. Seems a bit harsh to lose because you do that.

I always wondered what would happen in these circumstances but as you pointed out this is the first time we have actually got to this piont with a word...lol

How about a draw? I know, I know - a draw is just a lame compromise but I can't think of anything else that is fair.

In the meantime I'm not starting a new string in case you guys want to go back to the last interrupted one

Wow, great work you two, lol. I had "spectacularly" in mind, but didn't think to add an "un-" to the beginning.2009-08-06 03:50:00

Yep, that?s where I was heading too.

I think that in these circumstances, pending word from the oracle (or poster of the OP, aka dawesbr ? mutter, mutter, people going off on holiday just when they?re needed for more important things...) we should take this as a draw again.

But in any case we need to start again so:

Yay! The resurrection man!

Anyway, this didn?t deserve to die and even anyway-er, it can?t be allowed to because I think it's going to feature in LBPC The Game. If you check the first post in Rocksauron?s thread on the Game (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=t=10722) the photos of Level 3 show a sign pointing to ?SuperGhost? so yeah...

Hybrid-leader, you rascal! Are you daring to poke fun at this UTTERLY, UTTERLY serious game and the ?ber-cool people who play it! *shakes head sadly* Some people just don't know how to appreciate true genius when they see it...

BTW do I take it that your ?D? is just a random ?lol-D?? Or should I be spending hours trying to think of a real word with all those letters in it? Think very carefully before you answer this question! *tries to think who she knows who is REALLY good at sackslapping...*

Hybrid?Leader

I feel terrible now! Please re-instate your post!

It was all a joke! And I know that I wouldn?t know cool-guy talk if it hit me on the head with a rolling pin (which I appreciate it wouldn?t ? knowing as I do that kitchen utensils aren?t at all cool!). Anyway if your D was legit please carry on!

Oh man, this looks like it's gone a bit haywire. As proprietor of the game, I issue an apology to whoever has been affected by the problems. I figure it's easier to carry on with LONPNIAG, so I'm afraid hybrid-leader's entry is lost to the ages;

Sorry about that. When Hybrid-Leader just deleted his post without protest, I thought I might have offended him. However, it turns out he just thought it was funny! That'll teach me...

Anyway, back to the game:

I think I?d better start a new chain since the last one ran its course. For those of you burning to know, the word was POLLINATING. It was going to be pollination until Dawesbr added a G and I had to change tack. Oh the thrills and spills!

So here we go again...

S

Don?t all rush in at once!

PS I really like this game and the sarcasm above is actually directed at me as I am clearly the only one geeky enough to want to play it!!!
