Copyable Level Lock
Archive: 15 posts
Well, I've searched for one of these before and have never been able to find one that really fit what I wanted. So I made one for everybody! If you are unfamiliar with this concept, the purpose for this level is to copy it and customize the combination so you can place keys on the other side of the door and give the combination to everyone you want to have access to the key. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v432/ApellesJr/Photo196.jpg - http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v432/ApellesJr/Photo195.jpg - For the version that I published, the combination is ORANGE, CHERRY, APPLE. Of course, for your own version you would want to change this. To change the combo, just move the switches' positions around to your liking. If you still don't understand, then you might want to stick to ramp and bomb survival levels. | 2009-07-02 23:04:00 Author: ApellesJr Posts: 282 |
It's a good idea, but there are only 6 different combinations: A=Apple C=Cherry O=Orange 1. A,C,O 2. A,O,C 3. C,A,O 4. C,O,A 5. O,C,A 6. O,A,C So if I'm understanding this right, no matter which way you set it up, I'll be able to figure it out in under a minute. The good news for you is that even if you just increase it by one more, say banana for example, it jumps up to 24 different possibilities. Unfortunately, someone who is determined will crack this or even a 4-fruit code in no time. | 2009-07-02 23:27:00 Author: BSprague Posts: 2325 |
Ahh bsprague you beat me to it. People will play your lockbox level and try to guess the code, regardless of whether they know what they will get for it. I think I got about 10 plays on mine when I first published it, before any legit plays. Mine's essentially uncrackable but if they can see there are limited combinations to try, they will probably just attempt to get in through brute force. | 2009-07-02 23:32:00 Author: rtm223 Posts: 6497 |

It has exactly 10,000 combinations, so if someone wants to take a guess at that, they can go right ahead. | 2009-07-03 00:26:00 Author: BSprague Posts: 2325 |
Mine's close to 2 billion. Although there are 4 active codes, so you're looking at closer to half a billion to guess one. And that's assuming you know how many buttons to press. If you don't then you're chances rapidly decrease. And then there is a 3 digit code, which has lights to help you guess it and then kills you It makes animal noises as well All completely unnecessary, but I had fun making it. | 2009-07-03 00:32:00 Author: rtm223 Posts: 6497 |
Haha, yes I did realize that there was a very limited number of combinations. To be honest though, I think that if someone wants to go through the effort of cracking the code, then I don't really mind them trying out my locked level. For the most part, locked levels are for testing purposes anyways. I may add another fruit though. The reason I didn't originally is because the banana takes up more than one plane and the whole level was already designed on on plane. | 2009-07-03 05:56:00 Author: ApellesJr Posts: 282 |
Or you could just smack down a big block of concrete and write "lock" on it. | 2009-07-03 09:27:00 Author: BasketSnake Posts: 2391 |
I think that if someone wants to go through the effort of cracking the code, then I don't really mind them trying out my locked level. That's a good point, in some cases. I, on the other hand, use locked levels to share my levels with people who want them or have "won" them. I make them locked but copyable so that people who I've allowed to use my work can use it. For example, I had a maze level and I told that the first person to beat it would receive a copyable version of the maze to explore. I then made a copyable and locked version of it, and sent the key code to the winner. I wouldn't want some random, determined person to have a copy of my hard work that they didn't earn. | 2009-07-03 13:20:00 Author: BSprague Posts: 2325 |
Yeah, I've used mine for giving items that I've made for other people amongst other things. I can't be bothered with adding to my psn friends so it's easier to give them a locked, copyable level. When it's for someone else, I feel like I should protect it better Not entirely sure what basketsnake is chatting about though :s | 2009-07-03 13:39:00 Author: rtm223 Posts: 6497 |
Yeah lol. Well you've convinced me. I guess I'll make it a little harder *sigh* | 2009-07-03 16:09:00 Author: ApellesJr Posts: 282 |
My only suggestion are 2 simple ones: 1. Even if you only need to PLACE 3, you could have, maybe, 8 objects to place at the top - it only takes a couple minutes to add some more pieces of fruit. 2. Glue a bit of sponge to each piece of fruit so you can lift them up and drop them into place. Other than that, it looks pretty good. | 2009-07-04 21:39:00 Author: CCubbage Posts: 4430 |
With 8 objects, it makes it much better. Still, there are only 336 possibilities, so it's not ideal, but I don't expect many people to devote the time it takes to crack it (without getting lucky, of course) | 2009-07-04 23:08:00 Author: comphermc Posts: 5338 |
Alright, I took the advice from everyone. There are now 7 things to chose from, so if anyone actually cracks that code just to play one of my locked levels, they have absolutely no life. I also added a sponge handle to every "key" so they are easier to handle now. IF YOU PLAY THIS LEVEL: Please get the key that is in the top right corner of the scoreboard. It's my newest level called "Hoola Man Jenkins' Cabin" And I would really like some feedback on it. The showcase thread for it is here: https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=t=13367 | 2009-07-05 03:34:00 Author: ApellesJr Posts: 282 |
You'd be surprised how many people try to get into these key rooms. I have almost 1000 plays on my key code room (which makes me lose a little faith in humanity), and one kid said in the comments that he tried like 2000 combinations before giving up... That's just sad, but it's reality. Anyways, with 7 objects, there are now 210 combinations which is probably sufficient for what you are looking for. | 2009-07-05 03:48:00 Author: comphermc Posts: 5338 |
That's absurd. Haha. But like I said, if someone cracks my code, I'll consider that an exclusive invite to play my locked level. | 2009-07-05 16:27:00 Author: ApellesJr Posts: 282 |
