Calvin and Hobbes Costumes and FULL LEVEL ! (with images!)
Archive: 27 posts
I'm finished! :o You play as Calvin, collecting tuna cans as you explore and daydream through the environment. There is also a tutorial to create Calvin and Hobbes costumes. Featuring such comic gems as: - Transmogrification machine - Wagon ride - Snowmen sculptures - Spaceman Spiff - Tyrannosaurus rampage - g.r.o.s.s. treehouse - Stupendous Man! Plus some other in-jokes if you read the comic. There are 15 tuna cans hidden throughout the level. Each one you grab gets you more points at the end. Also features a tuna can counter (to see how many you found), and a can opener to open the cans! If you manage to find all 15, you get some decent prizes plus a key to unlock the bonus race version of the level! http://www.flickr.com/photos/33979622@N08/3673388253/sizes/o/http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3362/3674197472_155818ca9e_o.jpg http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2599/3674197594_a185be6ccc_o.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3298/3673388433_247efa1680_o.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3659/3674197786_d236df2324_o.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3595/3673388549_e3d8606fde_o.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3630/3673388619_d83560a3f5_o.jpg Thanks for all your suggestions! :hero: Let me know what you think. Level name:Calvin and Hobbes Costumes and FULL LEVEL ! Location: USA PSN: midnight_heist I encourage you to have a look for the tuna cans, as that's where most of the gameplay is. I played it and liked it, Pros: + Looks very authentic +Was easily recognisible on what each part was about +The Tuna Cans are good as a bonus +The tin opner Cons: -Wouldn't be 'fun' if you didn't know about Calvin and Hobbes - People may be put off by title as they may think it as 'Just a another costume level' Rated :star::star::star::star: | 2009-07-01 14:53:00 Author: FlameAtNight Posts: 405 |
I just played it last night. Here's my feedback: Pros: It was a very nice concept, I liked how you started out in the transmogrifier, and you've been transmogrified into a sackboy. I liked the decorations of the level, it looked real nice. Another thing I liked was the secret Tuna Cans throughout the level. I didn't find all of them but I thought it was a great idea. Another thing I liked were the Costume Tutorials. They were kinda good, and looked just like Calvin and Hobbes, but they weren't really my style, and I didn't save it to my costumes. Cons: It was a really great level, but right when I least suspected it, it ENDED! You should extend the level somehow. OVERALL: It was a great level, but it isn't finished. It needs to be longer. :star::star::star::star: F4F: Jump Survival Challenge (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=t=12528) | 2009-07-01 17:07:00 Author: tjb0607 Posts: 1054 |
Had a lot of laughs playing this one! I've always loved the comic and you've captured the look and the spirit of Calvin's world very well. I LOVE the tuna can hunt and the meow is priceless. Your dialoge is spot on for the comic and explains very well what you've depicted. I think you have all my favorites in there too (great job getting good suggestions during the building process - smart idea.) How you pulled off the T-Rex is funny and brilliant. I also have to applaud the idea of opening the tuna fish cans. Really memorable and impressive from a story point of view. There are only a few things I'd suggest changing/adjusting. I think I agree with FlameAtNight in that if people didn't know about the comic they won't really get it or have too much fun. If you put some general platforming in some areas to make it a more "playable" level that might help with that. Also the tree house is a bit tricky to get up into with 2x. Might want to adjust the camera a bit there. The camera doesn't follow up enough so you end up making best guesses as to where you are in the tree. Length is a bit short but I'm guessing you've got thermo issues (levels that look this good usually do.) Overall I'd say fans of the comic NEED to play this level. It's adorable and funny and well made. I rated it 4 stars & hearted it. Thanks for making this one - It needed to be made | 2009-07-01 17:43:00 Author: Morgana25 Posts: 5983 |
Very funny level! The spirit of the comic was there! I loved the can opener, the little race down the hill, the dialogues were very Calvin-ish (sometimes I really thought I was Calvin) The costumes are not too bad but you have to do something for Calvin's hair, it doesn't really looks like him. I gave it 5 stars and a lovely heart! | 2009-07-02 00:35:00 Author: Chump Posts: 1712 |

It's adorable and funny and well made. I rated it 4 stars & hearted it. Thanks for making this one - It needed to be made I have one or two notches of the thermometer to play around with, so I might extend it with a bit of platforming. The main reason I didn't have hazards is because I didn't feel that fire/electricity/gas fitted in with the look of the comic. It could work with Stupendous Man. Hmm. I felt bad not making Spaceman Spiff's blaster jam, I didn't like compromising the comic for the sake of gameplay. As for the tree house views, I didn't know how to fix that one. I wish you could make the camera zoom out. Maybe a checkpoint inside the treehouse? Very funny level! The spirit of the comic was there! I loved the can opener, the little race down the hill, the dialogues were very Calvin-ish (sometimes I really thought I was Calvin) The costumes are not too bad but you have to do something for Calvin's hair, it doesn't really looks like him. I gave it 5 stars and a lovely heart! I'm glad everyone liked the dialogue and the cans/can opener, as they took a while to get right. As for Calvin's hair, it was the closest one I had in my inventory. Do you have any suggestions? (inc dlc) I'll play everyone's F4F levels in a day or so. | 2009-07-02 09:13:00 Author: midnight_heist Posts: 2513 |
Ok, this level is fun. Very fun. It's definately captured the ideas and humour of the comic and is just..... fun! Pros: + The humour is spot on + Good costumes + All the references to the comics + The story is pretty good + The ihdden tuna cans Cons: - Very easy - Not one for people who don't/haven't read the comics. Overall though it was fun to play and got :star::star::star::star: | 2009-07-05 16:10:00 Author: Coxy224 Posts: 2645 |
Ok, this level isn't for me at all. First of all I'm completely useless when it comes to creating the costumes even when it's explained to me how I'm supposed to do. So I just skipp that part. Second of all I'm all about the gameplay and get bored very quickly when I'm just running around and there is no danger around. But I do like Calvin and Hobbes or Kalle & Hobbe as I know them so I can't completely dislike this level. You managed to get alot of the humour in here, and just about everything the comic is about. Well done! There also are some nice ideas like the opening of the cans, the dinosaur and the boubles in the bath. I also liked the coloured light thingies in the beggining when you bounce around. It would be nice if you could somehow get more gameplay into this level. Maybe spaceman spiff doesn't have to be just about shooting something that isn't moving? Or something. I can only give you 2 stars :star::star: for this level since it's only for fans of the comics and even then there is almost no gameplay. It's a walk through a tribute. There is some nice ideas, and alot squeezed in in this level, but I can't recommend it to my friends as a level to play unless they really like Calvin and Hobbes. | 2009-07-06 21:22:00 Author: Green Posts: 45 |
Oh you'll need my F4F! Just do my level The Cave Descent | 2009-07-07 13:44:00 Author: FlameAtNight Posts: 405 |
This was a very entertaining level. As with many of the other players, I enjoy Calvin and Hobbes, and you take the comic and made it into a nice level. I agree that it was a bit short, but that just means that people want more, so maybe a sequel is in the works? Well, that about wraps it up. Oh, if you could F4F my "Just a Day at Snowtop Mountain" level, that would be most appreciated. | 2009-07-07 23:22:00 Author: Spider-Jew Posts: 1090 |

Thanks for the kind comments. Glad the fans of the comic liked it, as it was made for them. Just updated this level with better camera views (pinball section, treehouse, can opener) . Even more multiplayer friendly. + clearer direction on spiff area (arrow pointing to alien as everyone I play it with shoots the spaceship lol) + paintball gun during the snow section to have "snowball" fights with your buddies Only ONE person has found all the hidden tuna cans since this was published. So there's good chance of getting top score if you like treasure hunting! I am also thinking about adding some more gameplay and a tuna can radar for replayers when I get the time. | 2010-04-03 12:24:00 Author: midnight_heist Posts: 2513 |
Ha! Well, I?m glad I read the post above because I spent quite a while this afternoon using that paintgun by the snowman to shoot everything in sight in the vain hope that it would unlock a tuna can. And all the time I was thinking there had to be a tuna can somewhere because, well, the creator must have put the paintgun there for a good reason... Anyway, I had a lot of fun playing the level even though, as someone who doesn?t know her Calvin from her Hobbes, it was at times a surreal experience. After a while, though, I came to expect the unexpected and didn?t bat an eyelid when a snowman was swiftly followed by a space alien, and then a dinosaur! The quirkiness of the thing definitely has its own charm and if I don't know why I get a mini version of the landscape to stomp on like a dinosaur, then, hey, what does it matter, it's still fun! I can see that a lot of the enjoyment to be had from this level lies in the C&H in-jokes but as I?m a sucker for treasure hunts I was more than adequately entertained looking for the cleverly hidden tuna cans (makes a change from gold coins, lol!). In two playthroughs I've managed to find 14 out of 15 so I shall have to keep trying (and I can at least now eliminate that paintgun from my searches!). The meow sound when they dissolve is a great touch and I loved the tin opener at the end. I can?t really comment on the level from a visual standpoint as I have no idea what it is trying to reproduce but I can certainly say that it was fun to play. I must trying getting in touch with my philosophical side more often! :star::star::star::star::star: and a <3 EDIT: I forgot to say that I fell through a hole down to the level floor (twice in the same place, actually, d'oh! :blush. It's towards the beginning of the dinosaur section. Not a big deal as you can easily re-spawn back up. | 2010-08-30 19:54:00 Author: shropshirelass Posts: 1455 |

And all the time I was thinking there had to be a tuna can somewhere because, well, the creator must have put the paintgun there for a good reason... Opps. Broke one of my golden rules. Through playtesting with others, the kids loved the gun, so I added another in the snow section. But you have a good point, it should be there for a reason heh. This has now been corrected. There is a C&H comic where it shows Calvin creating a little city in his sandpit, then in the next frame he's rubbing his hands together with a twisted smile. hehehe. So it's based on that. You did destory the mini city right? I can see that a lot of the enjoyment to be had from this level lies in the C&H in-jokes but as I?m a sucker for treasure hunts I was more than adequately entertained looking for the cleverly hidden tuna cans (makes a change from gold coins, lol!). The meow sound when they dissolve is a great touch and I loved the tin opener at the end. Wow, that's a good result. I wasn't sure if anyone would find them all and they are pretty obscure in some places. So you're only missing one eh? If the new paint switch doesn't help, I could give you a hint if ya want. I can?t really comment on the level from a visual standpoint as I have no idea what it is trying to reproduce but I can certainly say that it was fun to play. I must trying getting in touch with my philosophical side more often! :star::star::star::star::star: and a <3 Thanks! Yes, the visuals are fairly simple like in the comic. Glad you had fun. EDIT: I forgot to say that I fell through a hole down to the level floor (twice in the same place, actually, d'oh! :blush. It's towards the beginning of the dinosaur section. Not a big deal as you can easily re-spawn back up. Ah. I missed that, I extended the front layer to the right and all is well. Sorry about that. I also added some sneaky thin gas to prevent getting in front of the dinosaur. (which happens more easily with multiple players) Thanks for checking it out. I'm gonna add some F4F to this baby. | 2010-08-31 00:36:00 Author: midnight_heist Posts: 2513 |

Does he have one that looks like it was written by a six year old? Because that what I'm going for http://lesinge.org/ch/93/ch930504.gif EDIT: I was playing with a fellow Happy Gadder, so I couldn't do my usual play by play, but this was a really fun tribute to my favorite comic strip ever! One issue: We got trapped under the wagon at the end of the hill ride, and had to pop ourselves. It was a random occurrence though, and I'm pretty sure the level is fine without fixing it. Pretty sure I gave you fivers and a heart because you really did do a great job of stirring up some fond old memories. Well done! Random occurrence? Well I fixed it anyway cause I'm awesome like that. Thanks for the kind comments, glad you enjoyed it. | 2010-08-31 10:36:00 Author: midnight_heist Posts: 2513 |

Thanks for the feedback of "The Hero Chronicles LV7 Dragon Ruins". The level is jam packed with a variety of environment even though the visuals suffer a bit due to lack of decorations but I liked the pinball, the two snowmans, and the rampaging dinosaur part. Good work. 4 stars. | 2010-09-04 17:54:00 Author: JustinArt Posts: 1314 |
=D this made me laugh and remember the days of Calvin and Hobbes. The wagon falling into the lake was classic, and the dinosaur was done really well. I really liked the spaceman spiff one, made total sense. I think the best thing you could do is add something about the snowball fight area. Maybe something about Hobbes fighting Calvin with snowballs or something :star::star::star::star::star: due to nostalgia and <3 | 2010-09-06 17:43:00 Author: AdenRalumdan Posts: 296 |

A fairly entertaining tribute level, this is one for true fans of Calvin and Hobbes..even as such, I found the gameplay to be slightly lacking in amount. I got a few chuckles from some of the references, especially including Suzie and the dinosaur, as well as crashing the wagon. As far as visuals go, everything was recognizable, if a little bland...straight lines and perfect corners don't give the eyes much to gaze at. As far as the costumes go, not really my thing, but well done with the tools available in LBP. A successful tribute level, but not for the average gamer or someone with limited knowledge of Calvin and Hobbes. 4 stars, because I get it | 2010-10-12 09:15:00 Author: EvilWuun Posts: 152 |
