Cave Story Re-Imagine

Archive: 6 posts

Yeah, as the title mentions, I'm currently planning on possibly making the entire game of Cave Story in LittleBigPlanet. Granted, this may sound like a bit much, but I have a feeling that if done correctly all shall be well. I have a couple of friends who support the idea, and plan to possibly get bits of help from them from time to time (as I honestly doubt that I can pull this off on my own), but I have some great ideas for making it good.

If I have any questions along the way, I'll post them here.

I also highly recommend playing the original Cave Story by Studio Pixel.

I thought this was already being done.............................................. ..

Maybe that was just portions of the game. Seeing the full game rebuilt in LBP will be amazing.

Yup, as crazymario said, there's already a few levels done by this guy... but I haven't been playing for a while so I dunno if he followed through with it and created the whole thing.

He made a recreation of the very first cave as one level. And then the Mimiga village as another. To be honest... as direct remakes they were impeccable. All the graphics were done in pixel sprites. Pretty much direct copies of the actual ingame sprites. It had some nice cutscenes with the same speachbubbles from the game O_o...

I hope this doesn't discourage you from going ahead. But I think you should probably check out his levels first. If you feel that you can recreate the WHOLE game... that'd probably be much more of an achievement than the few levels he's got already... unless he did actually finish it :S

EDIT: found it>>> https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=t=9270&highlight=mimiga+village

...huh, well since someone else is already doing them...

Just kidding. I played the level and while I think he did an excellent job on the spriting detail, there were certain functions of the game I thought could be improved on. I will still give it a try myself, but I must admit those are incredible themselves.

Looks like I got my work cut out for me

Awesome. Well it seems like you've done your research. I'm glad you're gonna give it a shot.

Are you gonna be recreating all the sprites? Or just doing them in your own style?

It'd be kinda impossible to get the Machine Gun gliding physics to work O_o.... And some of the boss sequences would be really tricky, but there's always a way around it, and no ones gonna complain if you come up with something a little different/more suited to lbp.

Just like the level's that have been made, I'm recreating the sprites.
To a degree, I realize this is just copying off of what he did (since the First Cave level that phort did was far too well done to make any better, though I will try).

I honestly think the sprites should be smaller than they currently are though.
We'll see.

Also, I know I can't perfectly recreate all the in-game functions (like machine gun gliding and limited Jetpack) but I will try to find a way to make everything work out.

Honestly, I'm more worried about being able to fit all the levels within the 20 level limit.
