"Teleporter" help

I hear a lot about (as in play lots of levels involving) teleporters, and though what I'm having problems with does not advertise itself as a teleporter it has the same concept. Create a checkpoint and delete the default starter checkpoint. Go into play mode and then back into create mode. The checkpoint should be activated and you can capture it. I cant remember if it lets you delete the starter checkpoint like normal objects.
