Level keys...

Archive: 10 posts

Can someone explain level keys to me. If say i had a level (level 1) and had another level (level 2) if i put a key in level one would that mean that no one at all could play level 2 if they havent played level 1?2009-06-28 20:41:00

To achieve that you would have to lock level 2 as well.

Basically, if you lock a level, no one can play it unless you give them a key, which you can either do by putting it in your level, or you can do it by sending to them over PSN.

You can also leave level 2 unlocked, in which case the key acts like a link between the two. Anyone can play either level (as they are both unlocked), but when someone picks up the key in level 1, they will be taken to level 2 automatically.

To lock them, select it in your moon and choose the correct option.

However, warning with the key, i experienced many times that when a level is locked, it receipt far less attention (and then, less plays) that when it is not!

I really dont see much of a point of locking a level unless you do it so only your friends can play it. You're going to get almost no plays unless you're some extremely famous creator with thousands of hearts.2009-06-29 18:37:00

Locking is maybe handy if you want to have harder versions of a level. That way, only people who have beaten the first will play it and hopefully you`ll get less poor ratings from rubbish players.

Or if you remake an older level and want to show how far you`ve come, you could have the older version locked to show only those that are interested..

It`s not somehing I've done tbh, but I can see the benefits.

As a note, to alter the locked / copyable options, which are on the second page (i think) of your level details, you need to use the right analogue stick. Took me freaking ages to work that one out

In general yes it is a little bit pointless locking the second level in a series. If it says "part 2" in the title, most people are smart enough to go looking for part one it it intrigues them. You can use the visibility of the second level (while it's new) to drive traffic to you as a creator as well. If locked no one will even know what it is...

Of course, if you aren't fussed about number of plays or ratings or hearts and all that superficial bs, then do whatever feels right to you

I'm really glad they changed it though, I was always accidentally locking and unlocking and even worse, making my levels copyable and having to quickly change it back.
