Lowest Score Possible - Level Idea

Archive: 11 posts

Hey everyone in LBPC land!

I've been mulling around an idea in my head for a couple days and was wondering if anyone had any brilliant ideas for implementation.

This is sort of related to one section of the 7 days level (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=t=11886&highlight=days) made by xkappax, GruntosUK, HardSync, and Catiers. The idea is that there are no traditional hazards in the level, rather the objective is to obtain the lowest score possible. This means that you must try to avoid the score bubbles, and if you do accidentally hit one, you have to "stop dead" so as to not get a multiplier. Coming up with ways to create "score bubble traps" is not the problem, it's how to handle the leaderboard. Obviously, it won't work directly, but I want some way of tracking who had the lowest score (contest anyone?) I don't think the player score shows up in pictures, so I'm at a loss.

If it is impossible, then I'll just figure out some other project to work on... I'm going to need something to do when the Aperture Science series is over.

Edit: If it does work, I can just see how many players won't "get it" and will try and collect every little bubble, lol.

To find out who got the lowest score possible try to get 0 and the people over you will have the lowest score. I've played a level like this before I think but it wasn't really that good. I'm sure you would make something better. Just a reminder as I think you will know this, make sure there's nothing that can kill them as you can cheat and get 0 by just dying a bunch of times.2009-06-28 00:16:00

Your score is posted even if you don't finish the level?

There's no way to prevent someone from just popping themselves until they run out of lives, so if this is the case, then the idea is null and void.

Edit: Oh I think I know what you are saying - dying as many times a possible right at the end to reduce your score. Still, there's no way to prevent someone from popping themselves.

Well then don't use any checkpoints, so they are forced to continue, and if they do pop themselves. Game over.

Popping yourself doesn't take away points I thought?

But anyway, for implementation, what you can do is for every score bubble, put a magnetic key on it and a key switch below each bubble. At the end, for every bubble you didn't pop, two should come down, thus putting people who popped the least at the top. The only problem is that it could be very tedious to implement.

Yeah, it would! I had considered that idea, but decided I'm not going to spend hours putting down mag key switches, lol. It's logically the simplest solution, but tedious as hell... hmm...

Well, I have more time to mull, seeing as I'm not done with my current 2 projects yet. This idea is going on the backburner. Thanks for the help guys.

The easiest way possible I can think of is make a score board right next to the entrance but hide it REAL good AND block the entrance several times with dissolve material, put a sticker switch on the dissolve and make a custom sticker so no one has access to it. problem solved you can essentially beat your level with no effort or any major overhaul and with SEVERAL dissolve walls you have a redundant security system.

EDIT: decided to rephrase to make it slightly easier to understand

where ever your level starts make a small score board in a direction opposite of the intended route. make a small path the to second score board, like a very easy dark matter tunnel and fill that dark matter tunnel with several dissolve walls that have stickers attached to them and that only activate with a custom sticker. It's out of the way and even if people discover it they can't access it

Not sure if anyone has said this but if you press try again it doesn't take away from your score. Also, it doesn't show your score if you don't reach the scoreboard.2009-06-28 03:45:00

@Waldo

I'm not 100% on this, but I'm fairly certain I could place a secondary scoreboard behind a sticker switch activated wall. I believe AAAlone used this is his timed bomb level, having a scoreboard for if you fail the mission and one for if you pass it. This way, I don't have to worry about the end being near the beginning. I believe that they would have the same info, but I could use the one to check the scores. It's funny you mentioned the switch trigger idea, because I was considering something similar:

Having a jetpack thing pop out of the wall, triggered by a sticker switch. Then fly the jetpack through a concealed hole to the finish. It would make me feel more like a secret agent sackperson, lol.

yeah lol I'm actually making a "tool" treadmil level and I made a keypad that enables specific people to access certain areas, but yea thats pretty much the idea you have an area that has is hidden and hard to access without the necessary items. If I was you I would simply use the downsizing glitch to make a mine score board and just make the area out of view, add a jet pack platform yada yada you get the idea. Glad I could help though :hero:

Well I am going to play around and see if I can make a method for awarding the player bubbles at the end of the level depending on how many they got and see if I can make something that isn't terribly tedious, and then I'll get back to you.2009-06-28 14:51:00
