Unable to join other players

Archive: 6 posts

Alright, so I've been experiencing network problems on and off since the Online Create Beta began, which is understandable. This was mostly manifested in my inability to connect to the LBP servers for hours at a time. Now, I've been able to connect without problems, with the occasional disconnect (I assume everyone goes through this), but one constant is the inability to join other players. I'm doing my best to help out with the community project, but whenever I try to join someone else, I get the message "Unable to connect to players," followed by a white screen, and then my sackperson reloads into my pod. This happens when I try to join players or when I invite players. Sorry Code1337 and Jrange I couldn't connect to either of you guys because of this

I don't play online with others that often, because the lag really bothers me, but it'd be nice to have the option if I so desired. Anyone else having problems like this or know of a remedy?

Thanks in advance,
comphermc

Hey Comphermc, I am having these problems too. I think LBP is just acting up lately.I cant join otherseither, as well as load levels sometimes, or even stay online long enough to send my props to Rock. It really stinks, hopefully it will be over soon.2009-06-27 16:37:00

I also experienced frequently the same problem...

It's look like the multiplayer online is the hidden face of LBP...
But it is irritating and certainly a big problem for a game based on multi...

In the past 3 weeks or so this has happened to my wife and I a handful of times (more so than in the past). Typically, when it happens, it will happen repeatedly. The following day, everything will be fine.

I suspect PSN employs mirror sites to handle the network traffic in various regions of the world. I say this as several individuals I know on PSN will not be having issues when I am, and vice versa, and for the most part we are situated in different geographical locations. Multiple servers would definitely explain this.

I typically have issues in the early morning hours or during peak hours in the US (8-11PM Central). Since most server maintenance and backup activities are scheduled for hours when there is the least amount of traffic, early morning issues would correlate to those time frames. Regarding peak hours, high traffic can cause server requests sent by your PS3 to be queued (FIFO, First In First Out servicing scheme), causing delays in the request being serviced. Other times the queue is full, and a request is not serviced, and in these circumstances you will usually receive either a standard message related to the request type, or an error message if a hardware error is preventing the request from being serviced.

This morning, for instance, my wife tried to get on around 10:15 AM, and received a message to the effect "unable to logon due to server maintenance".

I don't think there is much we can do about it. Most Corporations will have just enough servers to handle a large amount of traffic, but not enough to handle every registered user--keeps their costs down and server efficiency up. It's not until enough people complain, that they will even consider adding another server to handle increases in server traffic.

This is so irritating! I never used to get that "Failed to connect to other players" message as much as now. Usually it would happen once and then I connect, this time I couldn't even connect after like 10 tries. Even when I do connect the lag is just unbearable. Instead of investing so much time on other things, fixing the latency issues should be their first priority.2009-07-01 06:19:00
