Editing Item Properties?
Archive: 15 posts
Alright, I was just thinking of a little COD4 glitch kinda thing, where you take your gamesave, transfer it to your PC, and you were able to add colours (Not anymore) but you can still add unavailable characters to your Clan Tag now.. Anyhow, I was thinking if this would be possible with LBP, and you could possibly edit the properties of items, E.G. giving a tiny lump of wood the weight of something 300x the size of it? In CoD4, it involved going into the online part of the gamesave, and editing some text in notepad, now if the same were with littlebigplanet, the possibilites would be endless. Thing is with this - It'll either work, or it won't, and it all mainly depends on the way they organise the saving of the Levels.. What do you think? Apologies if this isn't allowed, because of glitching or whatever | 2008-09-04 20:45:00 Author: DrunkMiffy Posts: 2758 |
I doubt that we'd have to do that much work to modify object variables. I'd think if its not supported at launch, MM would patch it in. And that's how they changed their names on CoD4? I always wondered how they did that. | 2008-09-05 02:19:00 Author: HobocidalManiac Posts: 117 |
I doubt this would work, because of the way LBP stores information. When you save a level, you are saving what are essentially "instructions" so the game can rebuild your level on someone else's PS3. I doubt you would be able to edit item properties, because I doubt item properties(other than item type, size, and location) will be saved in the save file. Since their aim was to have most of the work done on the PS3 instead of within the gamesave, I doubt things like weight and density would be stored. Plus, if this is possible and many people start doing it, I expect Mm would instead release official tools to accomplish the same task. I don't really see the need for it, though, as you could just use a block of steel/concrete instead of wood. There are going to be barriers, but even with those in place, all it takes is a creative person to find ways around them. | 2008-09-05 02:27:00 Author: ConfusedCartman Posts: 3729 |
Yeah, I was just wondering for the sake of knowledge A huge lump of steel, with a weight of only 0.1kg would be cool, but pointless, no ? | 2008-09-05 15:50:00 Author: DrunkMiffy Posts: 2758 |

Yeah I see what you mean, and I don't see why it wouldn't be possible. It seems like something that could be done, like a tab or something like in 3Dmax you can change the properties of items to add mass and so on. But maybe you can't who knows. | 2008-09-05 16:07:00 Author: Darth_Spartan Posts: 813 |
While I doubt you'll be able to change the item properties due to what CC said, I do hope that that information is given in the game. For some contraptions I may need to know the mass of the object in order to make it work. I hope we won't have to gauge how heavy something is just by the size and type of material it is. Has anyone seen mass info in a video? | 2008-09-05 16:27:00 Author: Burrich Posts: 1018 |

Has anyone seen mass info in a video? Nope, but thinking about it, in some big designs, exact masses and weights might be needed, so hopefully maybe a little "Infotool" is included, where you just select the item, and it tells you the mass, material, height (game measurements) etc etc.. I think that would be quite good. | 2008-09-05 16:29:00 Author: DrunkMiffy Posts: 2758 |

There are going to be barriers, but even with those in place, all it takes is a creative person to find ways around them. Well example : Take some wood, create a shape, then take some steel of the same shape, but slightly smaller, and add it to the center of your wood shape (effectively replacing the core of your object by something alot heavier) and then place another wood shape identical to the first one in front of it and voila! You've got a heavy block of wood, or plastic, or spunge, or whatever you like! To make something lighter, just hollow it out instead of adding another material in the center, then cover the hole, giving the appearance that it's full! | 2008-09-05 18:50:00 Author: KAPBAM Posts: 1348 |
I would not be surprised if some kind of unexpected editing took place, but like people are saying, if it was at all successful, MM would just patch it w/ DLC. So I do not think there are any problems there. | 2008-09-05 23:24:00 Author: THE-FAT Posts: 143 |
I really don't think LBP would release without an EDIT section in the Pop-it to edit properties of objects such as mass, elasticity, friction and whatnot. People would need to edit these types of properties to make their ideas work! | 2008-09-06 03:07:00 Author: Stix489 Posts: 2080 |
it would be good but wouldnt everything be a bit more complicated? why not just have material X and change the weight to equal metal or wood... i somewhat doubt it will be in the game... | 2008-09-06 04:19:00 Author: 12454522412412 Posts: 779 |

I agree, I think it's like they say, "everything reacts in a very physical way" and by deduction, if it looks like wook in the game, it'll react as much as possible like wood (unless you find a creative way to tweak it, like I mentioned above...) | 2008-09-06 07:09:00 Author: KAPBAM Posts: 1348 |

People would need to edit these types of properties to make their ideas work! I'm not so sure. Everything is supposed to work the way it would in the real world. If a property doesn't fiit into you plans because it's too heavy, the plan will need a workaround. They want to keep everything realistic. | 2008-09-06 14:59:00 Author: bbroman Posts: 1374 |
Who here played Tony Hawks Underground 2? Most glitches in a game EVER. There were loads of ways to change things with Gamshark or through glitches. One even included increasing the limit to how much stuff could be put in a level. Maybe the same will happen to LBP. | 2008-09-07 18:41:00 Author: GuyWithNoEyes Posts: 1100 |
