You vs. Rottentomatoes

Archive: 7 posts

Hey just thought I'd post this and see if people like it. Basically the idea is to find a movie that you really like that you think deserves a far better score than the one of rottentomatoes.com. Then post a few lines detailing why you think it deserves better.

I've seen so many films lately that I thought were good and have bad percentages on rottentomatoes.com. And I'm a little annoyed that non-english language films seem to be getting fantastic reviews so much more than english language films. Nothing against other languages at all but it's as if they're giving foreign movies better reviews because they're foreign. As if to prove that they're cultured because they watch foreign films.

Like "Let the Right One In" got 98%... it was good enough but definitely not that good.

Anyway I'll start with Transformers 2. It was an action film with fantastic special effects, excellent and numerous action sequences, great humour, good acting and a satifying story. And it currently has a rating of 21%. I call ********.

Oh yeah feel free to pick a film that has a rating that's too high.

I'll go next, I suppose. I choose the film "The Goonies". It currently has a
63% rating . This film is considered a classic of the adventure genre by many and is a personal favorite of mine. When crap movies like "Sky High" have better ratings than 80's classics...that's not good. Plus, this film had only a 19 mill budget, and was able to make an awesome giant octopus sequence along with the rest of this wonderful film. I just can't understand why some people would rate it so low.

Jurassic Park is only rated 83%
Kill Bill vol.1 is only 85%
I would have rated them a little higher.

Incredibles is @ 97% = awesome.

I find the site is accurate most of the time. More so than newspaper revews and alike.

Return of the killer tomatoes got ZERO!!!!
I think it should have at LEAST a 88%.

Come on, I mean it had George Clooney in one of his best roles! AND John Astin!

'The Strangers' starring Liv Tyler and Scott Speedman only has a 44%. RIDICULOUS! That movie should at LEAST be a 75%. It may not be a tradition horror movie with demented monster-like killers with machetes at some Camp Crystal Lake, but it is scary in it's own way. Grrrrr!2009-06-30 16:26:00

Guys, when something has a rating of 60 to 80 percent, that's good.2009-07-01 01:43:00

One of my favorite movies, The Fountain, is at 51%. Although I actually don't think this is at all inaccurate - What it means is that half the reviewers liked it, half didn't. That seems very fitting for this movie. It's one of those films that tends to split its audience. For every one who loves it, there's one who hates it. Some of the 50s on rottentomatoes tend to be the more interesting films.2009-07-01 08:27:00
